New T-Mobile offer will tie customers not currently financing devices to the company
The telecom industry is getting fiercely competitive, not just because of the rising threat from Mobile Virtual Network Operators (MVNOs) and cable operators, but also because the overall customer base is not growing at the same clip as before. Add to this the fact that customers are growing weary of the Big Three because of rate hikes and it's easy to see why they are desperate to lock users into a long-term commitment. T-Mobile previously made a couple of changes to make customers stay longer and is now running a new promo. The Mobile Report has learned that the carrier is targeting customers who don't currently finance devices through a new deal. The promo will let those customers save $830 on a new flagship phone if they trade in an old device. Though there's a trade-in requirement, customers will be delighted to know that even phones as old as the iPhone 11, Samsung Galaxy S10, OnePlus 9 Pro, and Pixel 6 qualify. It doesn't matter if the device is broken. The catch here is that customers who go for the deal will have to stay with T-Mobile for two years. But then again, this is the whole point of the promo. T-Mobile doesn't want to lose customers who aren't bound to it already. T-Mobile customers can trade in an old device and get a new flagship for $830 off. Customers who aren't considering leaving the company anytime soon probably won't mind though, considering they will get an iPhone 16, Pixel 9, or Galaxy S25 for free or a discounted price, depending on the model they go for. If you are wondering if you are eligible, don't expect T-Mobile to notify you. The offer will instead show up when you are shopping for a device in the T-Life app, assuming you qualify for it. Additionally, store reps might be able to assist you in finding out if you are eligible and help you claim it. You can let them know that eligible customers have the "2025 Loyalty Trade" segment on their accounts to help them look for deal doesn't exclude any plan, including grandfathered legacy plans. Customers with active Equipment Installment Plans (EIP) don't qualify though. This deal is yet another sign that T-Mobile is afraid of losing customers to rivals. The company is allegedly contemplating extending the duration of EIPs to 36 months. The company has also stopped giving discount bill credits to customers who pay off their devices ahead of time. Switch to a 2-month Total 5G or 5G+ plan with Total Wireless and score this foldable deal. We may earn a commission if you make a purchase Check Out The Offer

China will issue remaining consumer goods subsidies at stable rate, state media says
BEIJING (Reuters) -China will issue the rest of its consumer goods trade-in funds in an orderly manner and the central government is now guiding local governments to use the funds at a stable pace, state media Securities Times reported on Wednesday. The central government has allocated 162 billion yuan ($22.54 billion) out of 300 billion yuan in special treasury funds under the scheme to local governments, the report said. The scheme, a major campaign to revive household consumption in the world's second-biggest economy, helped retail sales rise last month. However, at least six cities and municipalities across China have suspended trade-in subsidies for car buyers in June, according to Reuters' review of government announcements. Chinese passenger car sales rise for a third month in April
SHENZHEN, China (Reuters) -China's car sales in April rose for a third month, up 14.8% from a year earlier, as government-subsidised auto trade-ins mitigated the impact of U.S. tariffs on consumer sentiment. Passenger vehicle sales totalled 1.78 million units last month and for the first four months of 2025 were up 8.2% from the same period a year earlier at 6.97 million units, data from the China Passenger Car Association (CPCA) showed on Sunday. Sales of electric vehicles and plug-in hybrids, known collectively as new energy vehicles, increased 33.9% year-on-year to make up 50.8% of total car sales last month. A government scheme that hands out larger subsides to trade-ins of old cars for NEVs than for gasoline vehicles had covered 2.71 million cars as of April 24, official data showed, cushioning the impact on Chinese consumer confidence as the increase in U.S. tariffs on Chinese exports disrupt trade between the world's two largest economies. Car exports slid 2.2% in April from a year earlier, extending an 8% decline in March, CPCA data showed. For domestic buyers, however, automated-driving systems are fading as a catalyst for sales, according to the association. The focus of a years-long price war in the world's largest auto market shifted toward next-generation automated-driving features after BYD announced in February to offer its "God's Eye" driver-assistance system as free standard equipment across its lineup. But the fervour to tout driver-assistance systems is cooling following a government crackdown on marketing terms using "smart" or "autonomous" to describe their technology after a fatal crash involving a Xiaomi SU7 sedan in March. The EV caught fire after hitting a cement pole, seconds after the driver tried to assume control from the car's assisted-driving system.
