Vancouver's FIFA World Cup contract could affect downtown restaurants
Last week, The Breaker website obtained the City of Vancouver's contract with FIFA ahead of the upcoming 2026 World Cup in the city. The contract details how a large zone around B.C. Place Stadium will have to be closed to traffic and some restaurant advertising may have to be removed. Ian Tostenson from the B.C. Restaurant and Food Services Association says the implications of the contract are unclear, but they could be disastrous for bars and restaurants in downtown Vancouver.

Traffic Alert: Mount Hope Bridge to close for 5 days in August. What to know
The Rhode Island Turnpike and Bridge Authority announced that a resurfacing project on the Mount Hope Bridge has been scheduled for Aug. 14-18, weather permitting. The Mount Hope Bridge will be closed to all traffic from 7 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 14, and will reopen on Monday, Aug 18, at 5 a.m. "We appreciate the public's patience as we get this work done," said Lori Caron Silveira, executive director of the Rhode Island Turnpike and Bridge Authority said in a statement. "We know that everyone will welcome a smoother ride over the bridge and hope that the advance notice will help people make their plans to seek alternate routes for that weekend. We have been working closely with leaders and first responders in Bristol and Portsmouth and are ready to address challenges as they arise." Here's a look at what to know about the closure. The road surface will be milled and then an ultra-thin bonded overlay will be applied from curb to curb to make a smooth surface. Weather permitting, the Mount Hope Bridge will be closed from Thursday, Aug. 14, at 7 p.m. until Monday, Aug. 18, at 5 a.m. If there is severe weather, the project will be rescheduled for a weekend in September. The bridge will be closed to all traffic. RITBA has been collaborating with Bristol and Portsmouth town leaders and first responders to ensure good communication about the timing and detours related to this work. The new surface will last approximately five years. Redecking the entire bridge (which was last done in 1985) is part of RITBA's capital projects in the coming years. RTS Link works: Nightly road closure at Johor Baru's Jalan Ismail Sultan until July 16
JOHOR BARU, July 3 — Jalan Ismail Sultan heading towards Stulang, will be fully closed to all vehicles nightly from tonight until July 16 to make way for construction works under the Rapid Transit System (RTS) Link project. In a Facebook post, RTS Operations Pte Ltd (RTSO) said the closure will take place daily from 10pm to 5am, with construction expected to take seven hours each night. The affected stretch is after the traffic light junction near the Customs, Immigration and Quarantine (CIQ) Complex and the R&F Mall area, close to GBW Hotel. 'To ease traffic flow, a contraflow will be activated periodically along Jalan Ismail Sultan (heading towards the city centre), allowing vehicles from the CIQ and R&F area travelling to Stulang to use the opposite lane as an alternative route,' the statement read. Motorists are advised to comply with traffic signboards and follow the instructions of flagmen on duty at the site during the closure. Etihad Rail project: Sharjah announces 2-month closure of streets connecting key roads
Major roads in Sharjah have been closed temporarily as part of the ongoing work for Etihad Rail Project works, the Sharjah Roads and Transport Authority announced. The roads that are set to be closed are the ones connecting Mleiha Road and Sharjah Ring Road, near University Bridge. The closure will last for two months, beginning on Tuesday, July 1, and continuing until Saturday, August 30. Closures on MacKay bridge this week affects Dartmouth-bound traffic

Halifax Harbour Bridges says the MacKay bridge will be closed for nine hours overnight on Wednesday and Thursday. The closure will happen between 8 p.m. on Wed. July 2 and 5 a.m. on Thurs. July 3. and again 8 p.m. on Thurs. July 3, to 5 a.m. on Fri. July 4. Halifax-bound traffic will not be affected by the closures. The Macdonald bridge will remain open with usual weight restrictions.
