Fatal crash disrupting traffic on I-96 in Livingston and Oakland counties
A traffic fatality is under investigation on Interstate 96 in Livingston County, the Michigan State Police reported. The crash happened about 9:30 a.m. along westbound I-96 near Kensington Road / Exit 151 in Brighton Township. Troopers from the Brighton post are among the first responders on scene, and reported there is a fatality. "Find another route," state police said. All lanes of westbound I-96 are blocked starting at Milford Road in Oakland County, according to traffic reports from the Michigan Department of Transportation. The posted detour is southbound on Milford Road / Exit 155B, westbound on Grand River, northbound on Kensington Road, then back to westbound I-96. MDOT traffic reports can be found at MI Drive website. This is a breaking news situation. CBS News Detroit will update with additional details as they are available.

Chaparral man dies in Northeast El Paso crash, medical issue could be cause of crash
A Chaparral, New Mexico, man died after possibly suffering a medical issue while driving, causing him to crash into another vehicle and a concrete barrier in Northeast El Paso, authorities said. Raymond Lee Ervin Massey, 50, was driving a 2019 White Chevy Trax about 7 p.m. Wednesday, July 9, on U.S. 54 and exited the highway onto Gateway North Boulevard, El Paso Police Department spokesperson Det. Judy Oviedo wrote in a news release. He crashed in the rear corner of a 2002 Gold Chevy Avalanche driven by a 52-year-old man at the intersection of Gateway North and Kenworthy Street. Massey continued driving across the intersection and struck a concrete barrier at a high rate of speed, the news release states. Police believe Massey "may have suffered a medical emergency however, the cause of the collision is still under investigation," the news release states. Woman, 50, dies after allegedly drunk driver crashes into moped in Waimanalo
A 50-year-old moped rider was killed late Friday night after she was hit by truck driven by an allegedly impaired driver in Waimanalo, authorities said. Honolulu police said that at about 11 :15 p.m. a 44-year-old man was driving north on Kalanianaole Highway when he traveled into the southbound lane and hit a 41-year-old woman riding a moped. The victim, who was not wearing a helmet, was ejected onto the road, according the Honolulu Police Department's Traffic Division. Honolulu Emergency Medical Services officials said paramedics were called to the crash but that the woman was pronounced dead at the scene. The man, who had minor injuries, was arrested for suspicion of operating a vehicle under the influence of an intoxicant and first-degree negligent homicide. HPD said alcohol appears to be a contributing factor but that it unknown if speed or drugs contributed. This was Oahu's 42nd traffic fatality in 2025 compared with 19 at the same time in 2024. Woman, 25, dies after collision with Halawa red-light runner
A 25-year-old woman died following a head-on collision late this morning in the Halawa area, Honolulu police said. The crash occurred at about 10 :57 a.m. at the intersection of Kahuapaani Street and Mananai Place and marks the 41st traffic fatality on Oahu this year. At the same time last year, there had been 16. According to the Honolulu Police Department's Traffic Division's Vehicular Homicide Section, a 40-year-old man was driving north on Kahuapaani Street with a 34-year-old male passenger when he ran a red light and attempted a left turn onto Mananai Place. During the turn, the vehicle was broadsided by a car heading south on Kahuapaani Street, driven by a 22-year-old woman. A 25-year-old woman was a passenger in her car. The 25-year-old woman was taken to a hospital in critical condition, where she later died. The 22-year-old driver was hospitalized in good condition. The 40-year-old male driver of the turning vehicle was also taken to an area hospital in good condition, while his passenger refused treatment at the scene. Police said speed does not appear to be a factor in the crash. It is not yet known whether drugs or alcohol were involved. The investigation is ongoing. El Paso Police: Motorcyclist killed when he crashes into other vehicle
EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) — A 36-year-old motorcyclist was killed over the weekend in East El Paso when he was speeding and crashed into the rear end of another vehicle, El Paso Police said. Police said 36-year-old Nickolus Lucero was killed at about 1 a.m. on Sunday morning, June 29 in a two-vehicle crash along the 9600 block of Montana near McRae. 1 person seriously hurt in crash involving motorcycle in East El Paso Police said Lucero was riding a motorcycle at a 'high rate' of speed, traveling east along Montana. At the same time, another vehicle exited a private drive along Montana and began to drive down the road. Police said Lucero was unable to avoid the other vehicle and crashed into the rear end of it. Luerco was taken to a nearby hospital but died from his injuries, police said. Police said contributing factors to the crash may include speeding by Lucero and the other vehicle possibly failing to yield the right of way.
