Amtrak Cascades, ‘one of the most scenic train rides,' unveils new look for 2026
PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) – Amtrak Cascades will see a major upgrade next year. recently unveiled new 'Northwest-styled' trains joining the Amtrak Cascades route spanning Vancouver, British Columbia; Seattle Washington; and Portland, Oregon in the summer of 2026. The new trains will feature the signature Amtrak Cascades evergreen, cream and mocha color scheme with graphics of the Cascade mountain range on each car, according to Amtrak. 15 Oregon food carts are among the nation's best, according to Yelp Amtrak says the new trains 'will revolutionize the Amtrak Cascades experience,' with panoramic windows and additional table seating to enjoy 'some of the most scenic landscapes in the world.' Additionally, each train will seat more than 300 passengers, who can also enjoy the redesigned café car with Pacific Northwest foods, beer, wine and spirits. The new fleet will also be more fuel efficient and will produce less air pollution, Amtrak said. The exact release dates for the train launch have not been released, however, Amtrak noted the trains will be released over a period of several months. Travel + Leisure highlighted the upgrade in a June 23 article, explaining, 'Amtrak is keeping the existing green and maroon color scheme and images of local landmarks on the train's livery. The train will have special graphics of both Mount Rainier and Mount Hood, both of which the train passes on its journey.' The route was also named among the most scenic in America by Visit USA Parks, saying the route is 'complete with breathtaking views of the Cascade Range, Puget Sound, and lush forests of Oregon and Washington. This convenient and scenic way to explore the region's natural beauty and vibrant urban centers means travelers can enjoy the best of both worlds when it comes to lively gateway communities and wondrous natural beauty that surrounds them.' One of the most beautiful train rides in America is getting a major upgrade. The famed Amtrak Cascades service, which operates throughout the Northwest corridor with stops including Seattle and Vancouver, recently revealed the first look at its brand-new train cars and interiors. From the front of the engine to the last passenger car, everything has been reimagined from the ground up. "With panoramic windows and additional table seating, customers can enjoy some of the best views and connect to some of the most scenic landscapes in the world," the Amtrak Cascades website shares about the coming upgrades. Amtrak announced that the refreshed train will hit the tracks in 2026, though a specific launch date was not disclosed. Amtrak is keeping the existing green and maroon color scheme and images of local landmarks on the train's livery. The train will have special graphics of both Mount Rainier and Mount Hood, both of which the train passes on its journey. Each train car will be completely brand new, including a redesigned café car with a menu featuring local flavors and bites. Amtrak also released dozens of images of the trains under construction in the May 29 update. The nearly finished cars feature a refreshing color scheme, hardwood tables, plush seating, and fresh carpeting. In addition to the new trains being more comfortable, Amtrak says it will also be more fuel efficient, contribute less air pollution, and be extremely environmentally friendly. It is calling the new trains the "next generation of train travel." The route was listed as one of the most scenic train routes in America by Visit USA Parks, due to the variety of landscapes and mountains. 'The whole ride was so beautiful and relaxing,' one traveler shared about their recent journey on the Amtrak Cascades in a social media post. While travelers will have to wait for the new trains until 2026, tickets for existing trains on the Cascade line are still available on Amtrak's website. The train makes 18 stops, with major destinations including Bellingham, Washington; Portland, Oregon; Seattle; and Vancouver, British Columbia.

£1.5m boost for Huddersfield-Sheffield rail line improvement plan
A total of £1.5m has been awarded for the development of plans to improve journeys on a busy train route linking South and West Council was awarded the government cash to work on its proposals to speed up travel on the Penistone Line, including the revamp of stations on the route, many of which are journey from Huddersfield to Sheffield was expected to take "well under an hour" once work on the planned £48m upgrade of the line was complete, according to the authority.A council spokesperson said: "It's all part of our plans to make the Kirklees economy stronger and greener for future generations." 'Major project' Over the coming years, the project would include improvements to several "key" Kirklees rail services and stations serving Lockwood, Berry Brow, Honley, Brockholes, Shepley, Stocksmoor and Denby Dale, the spokesperson plan was also to increase speed along the line and upgrade the rail infrastructure - including doubling sections of track - to allow two trains to travel on the northern section of the line every hour, in both directions. The improvements would in turn boost the local economy for people living along the length of the route, according to the Crook, Kirklees Council's cabinet member for transport and housing, said: "The Trans-Pennine upgrade is in full swing and will improve our connections with towns and cities across the north of England. "The Penistone Line project will make similar improvements to our connections between Huddersfield and Sheffield."This is a major project for our whole region, so it's vital to get the planning right."Crook added that the £1.5m funding "will help us get on with the job to make rail travel quicker and more comfortable for passengers, as well as bringing jobs and opportunities for residents and businesses".
