Laverne Cox reveals she dated 'blue-eyed MAGA republican voter' for three years

Laverne Cox has opened up about her love life, and many of her fans are feeling betrayed. In a teaser for her upcoming one-woman show, Gurrl, How Did I Get Here, Cox revealed that she was in a relationship with a "blonde-haired, blue-eyed MAGA republican voter who is a New York City police officer" for nearly four years. Cox's one-woman show opens July 28 at City Winery in New York City. She teased that she would be talking about her former relationships, including with a man who was 22 years younger than her. "We were madly in love. I did not develop any of his politics. I still have my own," she said. Cox's followers and fans quickly responded. Many felt betrayed that Cox would form such a long relationship with someone who voted for and supported a transphobic, racist, fascist president and works for an institution that has targeted Black and trans people for over a hundred years. "'We were in love'… you sure about that sis? When someone loves you, they honor and respect who you are, your experiences and will fight for your right to exist. His politics say otherwise. Just tell us the D was good, that's more believable." @kanyaac129 said. "So he voted against everything you are?? AND you're okay with that?" @ravetravelretreat added. Cox followed up with an over 50-minute Instagram Live session, where she opened up further about the relationship, her reasons for being in it, and the criticisms she was receiving from fans. In the video, Cox acknowledged that "the children are gagging" about the relationship, and she didn't expect the reaction to be so extreme. She explained that she met her ex-boyfriend on Tinder, and when they started dating, she didn't know his political views or his profession, but fell in love with him as a person. "He has a beautiful soul and has really beautiful qualities," she said. When his beliefs came out, Cox felt a strong connection and was "attempting to see his humanity beyond" his politics. She also acknowledged that maybe she was being naive in the relationship. "I fell in love with someone who voted for a fascist regime... But he was complicated, and he fell in love with me. And neither of us expected that to happen," she said. Still, despite him voting for a party that wants to eliminate people like Cox from public life, it was the best relationship she ever had, and the irony of that was "shocking." Cox said she felt like people in the comments were dehumanizing those who have different political beliefs, and she doesn't believe that is the way forward. "Dehumanizing anyone is not consistent with my values. Fascism is not consistent with my values. I am an anti-fascist. I never adapted any of my exes' politics. I always challenged him with love and empathy… often corrected him with facts, and I wanted to see if it was possible to have a relationship with someone who had different political beliefs." While Cox acknowledged that the MAGA movement dehumanizes people like her, she insisted her ex-boyfriend did not. "This dude was dating me; he was in love with me. He didn't want to erase me," she said. Cox added that "the good things about the relationship were so good that I was willing to work with the politics that I don't agree with." Still, many fans said Cox was engaging in "fascist apologia" for saying that not everyone who voted for Trump or supports him is a fascist. They argued that you can see someone as a human without being their friend or romantic partner. As the Republican party continued to escalate its attacks on the LGBTQ+ community, immigrants, people of color, and women, the relationship started to strain. Cox said the two of them broke up in March 2024, and as the election got closer, it "became more difficult to be magnanimous with him." Then, when some of his implicit racial biases "came out" towards the end of the relationship, "that was the end." She added that she doesn't "think I'd be able to be in a relationship with him this year." Cox said that she knows people won't understand, and she is still processing the relationship, but she doesn't regret leaning into love. University workers face FIVE years in prison for misgendering trans student

A female janitor and a university official are facing up to five years in prison for misgendering a student. The official, Luiz Adripaulo, and the janitor, whose name has been withheld, were accused of transphobia by Federal University of Paraibá student Odara Moraes in October 2022. Psychology major Moraes was seen inside one of the school's women's restrooms when she was confronted by the staff members. The janitor, who had been employed by the Brazilian university for nine years, told news outlet Redduxx that she was hardly ever assigned to the area of the campus when she walked into the bathroom with one of her co-workers. They noticed Moraes wearing 'a crop top and a mini skirt' and approached her before the janitor, who is on trial, told Moraes that she was not in the correct restroom. 'I didn't mean to offend anyone or hurt anyone. I just spoke to him politely, and I was politely bothered because it was a female space, not a male one,' the worker said. 'I was simply speaking about a fact, about a right - my right as a woman to defend our space, a female space. I had never seen anything like that before - a man using a women's bathroom.' The janitor said that Moraes was argumentative and asked to be referred to with female pronouns. After learning that the janitor was employed by the school, Moraes requested the presence of a university official and was escorted to the office of Adripaulo, the administrative director. Adripaulo attempted to mediate the incident when he asked Moraes if she had any documents to prove that she was a woman. Moraes accused the janitor and Adripaulo of discrimination and abandoned the office before filing a police report four days later. The incident generated concerns for both the janitor and Adripaulo, who had never gotten in trouble with the law. The janitor was left without a job in 2023 after her contract was not renewed by the company that hired her for the university, and she has had trouble finding employment ever since. 'I never imagined I would go through something like this,' she said. 'What I have been through deeply affected my personal and mental well-being. I have become anxious. I have anxiety attacks, you know?' Moraes claimed that she was discriminated by a female janitor and an administrator at the Federal University of Paraibá after she was kicked out of a women's restroom Adripaulo faced constant pressure from LGBT+ activist groups, who held protests outside his office. Student accused him of being a 'fascist.' 'Emotionally, my family and I were devastated, we didn't know how to react,' he said. 'My wife cries in the early hours of the morning; One day I woke up, she was crying on the soft. I made a tremendous effort not to let my children and wife notice what emotional state I'm in right now.' Both were charged in October 2024 with aggravated prejudice and will learn of their fate in the next couple weeks. They could spend two to five years in prison if they are found guilty.

Gender-critical activists branded ‘swivel-eyed' by Labour MP

Sir Keir Starmer has been accused of failing to deal with his party's 'ongoing women problem' after it emerged a Labour MP called gender-critical activists 'swivel-eyed'. Tim Roca described the For Women Scotland Supreme Court judgment on the definition of sex in law as 'very depressing' and said those who support the sex-based rights of women were 'not very well people'. The comments were made during a talk Roca, the first Labour MP for Macclesfield, gave this month at an event called Queering Academia hosted by the University of Westminster. In response, Susan Smith, a director of For Women Scotland, said it was an 'appalling' comment for an MP to make. 'I'm assuming by 'swivel-eyed transphobes' he is referring to women's rights activists,' Smith said.

Trans woman 'flashes teenage shop assistant while using changing room - then plays the victim'

A trans woman is being investigated for whether she falsely claimed she was the victim of transphobia at a Brazilian women's clothing store. Gisela Fernandes, 49, visited Sodalita, a shop located inside Metropoles Shopping mall in the city of Aguas Claras on March 18 and accused a security guard of using extreme force to remove her from the store. Fernandes claimed that the security guard also verbally assaulted her with the use of homophobic slurs and showed bruises on her arm, according to the police report, which was filed March 21. However, Fernandes' allegations were challenged by an 18-year-old female sales associate, who was questioned by Federal District Civil Police investigators several days later. The store employee, who described Fernandes as 'very tall and strong,' asked for assistance and provided her two dresses to try on. The young woman escorted Fernandes to makeshift dressing room and at one point reportedly opened the curtain and exposed herself. 'He was wearing a black bra and panties, and panties did not completely cover his private parts,' the police report indicated. 'The declarant felt uncomfortable and disrespected. At no time did he ask permission to be half-naked or asked if the declarant felt uncomfortable.' The sales associate rushed out of the store and sought the assistance of a saleswoman from a neighboring business to contact mall security. The shocked worker told police that Fernandes was not physically or verbally abused by the security guard. 'Security arrived and told him that it was a woman's store. At no time did he touch the man, threatened, cursed or disrespected him,' the police report showed. Surveillance camera footage revealed by the Federal District Police found that the security guard escorted Fernandes without using force and that no obscene words were said. The investigating officer found that 'no physical aggression against Gisela da Silva Fernandes' said that the bruises on the arms may have been caused by herself. A Federal District prosecutor reviewed the findings on May 10 and filed them with a court for a full investigation as to whether Fernandes had lied in the police report. A representative for Matria Brazil, an independent women's right organization, recently told Reduxx, that it's willing to help the mall sales associate and security guard. 'MATRIA supports many women, and increasingly also men, in this situation and we know for a fact most of the accusations of 'transphobia' are false and opportunistic,' the rep said. 'We urge women who are facing accusations of 'transphobia' in Brazil to contact MATRIA, you don't need to face this.'
