Man City and Puma sign record long-term kit deal
Manchester City have extended their kit partnership with Puma on a long-term deal, the club announced on Tuesday, with British media reports saying the deal is worth around 1 billion pounds ($1.35 billion), making it the largest in the Premier League. The new contract runs for at least another 10 years, reports said, worth a record 100 million pounds a year to the club. City previously signed a 65 million pounds per year deal with the German kit manufacturer in 2019. The agreement is expected to set a new benchmark for kit manufacturer deals among English clubs, surpassing Manchester United's 900 million pounds 10-year contract with Adidas, signed in 2023. City have enjoyed an exceptional run since 2020, winning four consecutive Premier League titles and securing the treble in the 2022‑23 season. However, they did not win a major trophy last season. City will begin their 2025-26 Premier League campaign on August 16 with a trip to Wolverhampton Wanderers. ($1 = 0.7435 pounds)

John Size secures 13th trainers' title as Bundle Award dramatically wins Sha Tin's feature
John Size won a 13th trainers' premiership at Sha Tin on Sunday thanks to a treble on the night spearheaded by Bundle Award's last-gasp win in the feature Class One Hong Kong Racehorse Owners Association Trophy (1,600m). The 71-year-old entered the penultimate meeting of the season with a six-win lead over David Hayes but put the exclamation point on his season by sprinting into a nine-win lead to put the race beyond doubt. With Hayes having entries in only eight of the nine races at Happy Valley on Wednesday, it left Size with an insurmountable lead and saw him crowned champion. 'There's a lot of satisfaction in [winning] and probably something I'm very grateful to achieve,' Size said. 'It's a very strong and stiff competition and so therefore you have to rise up to it. 'As I've said before, I'm surprised that I've been so successful in Hong Kong. It's always been a test of if I can keep performing at that level and so far I've been able to over 24 years and, God willing, if my health is still OK, I can do it for a little bit longer.' Huuuuuuuuge finish! Bundle Award goes from last-to-first with @Atzenijockey to land the Hong Kong Racehorse Owners Association Trophy for John Size... 🏆#SeasonFinale | #HKracing — HKJC Racing (@HKJC_Racing) July 13, 2025 Sprinting home was also exactly what Bundle Award did after settling last in the feature and having a mountain to climb turning into the straight, still last as the field hit the 200m pole. Andrea Atzeni was in no mood to be denied, however, and got everything required out of his mount to sprint past the entire field in a matter of strides for an emphatic success. Hayes' fleeting hopes of a comeback were dented in the first race of the day when Size's Sight Dreamer landed the Class Five Miraculous Handicap (1,400m), once again ridden by Atzeni. The Almanzor galloper enjoyed the perfect trip just ahead of midfield and after charging to the lead at the 300m peg, he had plenty in reserve to fend off Fight Time in the closing stages. Size went two up on the evening when the aptly named Raging Rapids split horses to win the Class Four Medic Kingdom Handicap (1,400m) under Karis Teetan. Superb ride, @KarisTeetan! 👊 Raging Rapids scores a first win at Sha Tin as John Size extends his trainers' championship lead to eight... #SeasonFinale | #HKracing — HKJC Racing (@HKJC_Racing) July 13, 2025 Meanwhile, the race for the Tony Cruz Award was given some extra spice when Matthew Chadwick reduced Matthew Poon Ming-fai's lead to one thanks to Devas Twelve's triumph in the Class Four Pingwu Spark Handicap (1,400m). The Chris So Wai-yin-trained five-year-old travelled kindly in second throughout the journey and after overhauling long-time leader Glaciated, he had plenty in reserve to fend off Pejibaye late on. Derek Leung Ka-chun was also on the scoresheet thanks to Happy Universe's win in the Class Four Solar Hei Hei Handicap (1,600m), meaning he will enter Happy Valley on Wednesday just two behind Poon. It was another big night for champion jockey Zac Purton. Unsurprisingly, there was a four-timer on the card for Zac Purton too, with Circuit Mighty's gutsy win in the Class Five Mr Award Handicap (1,400m) putting trainer Manfred Man Ka-leung onto a career-best Hong Kong total. The victory secured Man a 45-win season, while Purton also struck aboard the Jamie Richards-trained Bulb General in the Class Four Victory Marvel Handicap (1,200m) and Jimmy Ting Koon-ho's Huge Wave in the Class Three Sight Winner Handicap (1,600m) – the second leg of a Ting double after Happy Universe's earlier win. His final win came in the last, with Beauty Bolt making it second time lucky with a late burst to win the Class Three All You Wish Handicap (1,400m) for trainer Tony Cruz.

Luis Enrique shrugs off praise for PSG's season with Club World Cup final to come
There is just one game left in the season in which Paris Saint-Germain finally won the first Champions League in their history to complete a historic treble and that game is the Club World Cup final, but Luis Enrique says it has not been his best. He was better, he claims, when he lost. Besides, the PSG coach said, Manchester City remain the best team around and his side must face a Chelsea team he likened to his own which can still deny them the perfect campaign and have a manager he 'loves'. 'The Champions League was our first and it was very important: that was our main objective when we came to Paris last year,' Enrique said. 'And on Sunday we have the chance, with the last game of the season, to win another one, with the Club World Cup. But it is important that we are conscious of the difficulty of the game. [Enzo] Maresca is a coach I love. I love the way he has of playing with the ball. They have a lot of good individual platers but they also have a real sense of duty. They are a bit like our team. They are physically strong too. It will be a very even game and a very difficult one. 'Chelsea won the Conference League, they finished fourth in the league, they are growing a lot. They have great players, technical players, and a great coach who I like a lot because of how they try to play from deep, always press, always want to attack. They are a very complete team that has produced a sensational season. This is no easy team and it is not a formality or anything like it. We will approach it 100% focused to try to round off a historic season. 'Was it our best season? Maybe, but we have to win to complete it. Anyway, you go a final and there is a loser and there is a winner too, but that doesn't mean the loser has done badly. We will give 100% and see which prize we get. 'A team is 11 stars, that's football,' the PSG coach continued. 'We don't want one, we want 11, or 13, 14, 15 … that is what we want. We are looking for the real star to be the entire team. It's like the fans: there is not one star, it is the whole of the Parc des Princes. I think the path is clear for everyone. We want stars, but at the service of the team.' It was then put to him that the star was him, and that he was the favourite to win the Ballon d'Or coach's award. 'I don't believe in individual awards in general and still less for a coach,' he replied. 'The team is always above the individual and that is something we try to transmit at PSG. Ousmane [Dembélé] is the best for what he has done individually, for the goals and assists, but above the goals and the assists it is because his work has meant that PSG won all the trophies. And that should be the only criteria by which a player is rewarded individually. That's my opinion, and I am sure there are others. Sign up to Football Daily Kick off your evenings with the Guardian's take on the world of football after newsletter promotion 'There is nothing star about me. There wasn't as a player and there isn't as a coach. I like the work I do. I enjoyed my career as a player and I am enjoying it as a coach – especially the hard moments. That's when I feel most happy. It is nice when things go well because in our job you can make a lot of people happy, and I have learned to appreciate that as the years passed. 'But I know how this 'show' works: I know that people think you are good or bad based on your results. The praise comes because you win. The best team over the last decade was Manchester City. They lose 10 games and everyone kills them. They still have the best coach, they're still the best team. It's incredible. 'I accept that. But I have been better when I lost. I don't mind; I like being criticised more than being praised. I think I have got it right much more when I didn't win and everyone killed me with criticism. You all think that because we're winning, I am getting everything right now. No. I got it right much more, I did much better, when I lost. But in terms of efficiency it has been an extraordinary year and now we have to finish it off.'

Man Utd's 1999 team tops greatest football sides ever as fans vote on top 20
MANCHESTER United's 1999 treble winners have topped the league of greatest football teams of all time. The iconic side pip Pep Guardiola's Barcelona, made famous for their 'tika-taka' style led by Lionel Messi, Xavi and Andres Iniesta, to top spot in the ultimate footy fan vote. 3 3 Brazil's 1970 World Cup winning team made up the top three, while Liverpool 's side from '75 to '84 add another accolade to their decade of dominance by finishing fourth. With the top 16 list compiled, they've also been represented in knockout format, so you can imagine who you think would go through to take top spot and crowning glory. It all comes as a poll of 2,000 lovers of the beautiful game, celebrated both club and country sides by ranking them together. Real Madrid feature twice in the top 20 of teams listed, while Arsenal's 'Invincibles' and Manchester City's treble winning team also represent the English game. The research was commissioned by OLBG, which has also created its own knockout style tool featuring the top 16 teams so other fans can play along and see who they think comes out on top. Jake Ashton, Football Editor for the brand, said: 'There have been some incredible teams for both club and country over the years. 'Domestic sides often have periods of dominance, lasting as long as five or six years at a time, but international sides usually shine at one particular tournament. 'With things like the World Cup's global audience, it's little surprise Brazil's 1970s heyday is still so fondly remembered.' Other sides highlighted in the top 20 list include Spain's globe-conquering side from 2008-2012, which hoovered up European Championships in 2008 and 2012, as well as the 2010 World Cup. France's team from 1998 to 2000 that won World and European honours also placed. Seven in 10 respondents said one or more of the teams listed have had a significant impact on their overall love of football. This was either because they were simply a joy to watch (73 per cent), their teamwork was inspiring (66 per cent) or they played in a unique way (60 per cent). When asked separately, football fans also fed into the age old club vs country debate, with 44 per cent preferring club competition to international. Tradition and history of these teams came out on top of the key reasons why (48 per cent), according to the data. The domestic game also pulled on the heart strings of fans, as 36 per cent would prefer their club team to win a trophy vs 26 per cent who would rather see their country succeed if given the choice. It would be a close match according to fans in a hypothetical game between the best international team and the best domestic 11, with the vote just going to the club side (41 per cent vs 39 per cent). 3 When asked the key ingredients that go into a truly great team, supporters cited skill and talent (64 per cent), exceptional teamwork (61 per cent) and consistency (56 per cent) as most important. Jake Ashton from OLBG added: 'Trying to agree on the best football team of all time is one of the great debates that unites and divides fans in equal measure. 'Whether you grew up watching the dominance of Brazil in 1970, the flair of Barcelona under Guardiola, or the invincibility of Arsenal's 2003-04 squad, everyone's got a strong opinion - and that's what makes it so much fun. 'Football isn't just about stats or trophies - it's about memories, passion and the moments that made us fall in love with the game.' THE TOP 20 FOOTBALL SIDES OF ALL TIME: 1.
