CrowdScience Why are twins special?
No one really cares that CrowdScience listener Sam has a younger brother, but they do care about his sister. In fact, they're fascinated by her. That's because Sam and his sister are fraternal twins. He's been wondering all his life why he's treated differently. Could it be cultural? Twins have long appeared in classical mythology, revered literature, and playful comedies—captivating artists and audiences alike across time and continents. Or is there something more scientific behind our fascination? Why are twins special? Anand Jagatia investigates with Karen Dillon from Blackburn College in the USA, who says it's more complicated. Over the years we have created stereotypes of who and what twins are. Our perception has been warped by history and pop culture. As an identical twin herself, she knows firsthand how stereotypes can shape a twin's identity. Philosopher Helena De Bres from Wellesley College in the USA believes these stereotypes play on human anxieties. Their similarities and differences are derived from their biology, maybe our genes have more of an influence over our personalities and behaviours than we like to think? And Nancy Segal agrees, Director of the Twin Studies Centre at California State University in the USA. She has spent her career studying twins. She's found that nearly every trait, whether it be behavioural or physiological, has a genetic component to it. Anand is sure to leave you thinking that Sam, his sister and all the other twins across the globe, really are special! Seven's Stranded on Honeymoon Island gets bumped to later time slot amid dire ratings - as cast member goes rogue and reveals major spoiler
Seven's Stranded on Honeymoon Island only made its debut this week. But the dating show is in all sorts of trouble as it faces dire ratings - while a cast member has taken to social media to reveal a major spoiler. Matched with 29-year-old executive Emily, business analyst Tom Brown, 30, appears to have wasted no time moving on after the show completed filming in 2023. Posting to his Instagram, Tom has shared steady updates on his new relationship with fiancée Morgan Mitchell, who competed on this year's Australian Survivor. He's even shared the news that he's fathered twins - Honey and Maya with Morgan last month, after the couple were engaged in July 2024. From A-list scandals and red carpet mishaps to exclusive pictures and viral moments, subscribe to the DailyMail's new showbiz newsletter to stay in the loop. Tom's decision to share relationship details is considered a no-no in reality TV world, especially while a show is on air with storylines yet to play out. His posts have included pictures of himself holding one of his newborn twins, while Morgan holds her sister and takes a selfie. Another photo shows the couple posing with a 'twin pram'. Meanwhile, Stranded on Honeymoon Island has been bumped to a later time slot after its underwhelming debut on Monday. This means Seven's hopes of replicating the success of Nine's Married at First Sight with its own raunchy dating series are sinking fast. The show managed an average of 539,000 viewers nationally with its premiere episode, but by Tuesday fans had already deserted the romantic castaways by the thousands. Only 376,000 fans tuned for the second two-hour episode. Now, TV Tonight reports that Seven has moved the show from its prized 7.30 pm slot to 8.30 pm next Monday - but will screen Tuesday's episode at 7.30 pm. The industry blog also states that episodes planned for July 7 and July 8 remain scheduled for 7.30 pm. A combination of MAFS and Survivor, the long-awaited show follows 12 unlucky-in-love singles who are stranded on a remote island with no hope of escape for 21 days. Narrated by high-profile radio host Jackie 'O' Henderson, the format is based on a hit Danish concept and adapted locally by Endemol Shine Australia. It comes after Stranded On Honeymoon Island's Amy Dickinson has opened up about her wild ride on Seven's new reality dating experiment. Speaking to Daily Mail Australia on Tuesday, Amy, 30, revealed that she was left 'petrified' after being matched with motorsport presenter Mike, 37, and knew almost immediately that their honeymoon was going to be anything but blissful. 'I called it Nightmare Island immediately,' she admitted. 'As soon as I got to the island, I kind of realised what I'd got myself into… I had a little panic attack.' Despite feeling an instant spark with another contestant during the chaotic two-minute speed dating round, Amy was blindsided when she was paired with Mike - and the red flags started waving before they even reached their bamboo hut. 'In his vows, he made a comment about hoping his future wife could make a better sandwich than his mum,' she revealed. 'He claimed he wrote it when he was seven, but that was obviously a lie. I don't like liars – and I definitely don't like misogynists.' The influencer, who joined the show hoping the experts would have better taste in men than she does, said she's had her fair share of toxic relationships. When asked what viewers can expect from the series, Amy teased: 'Drama. Tears. Chaos. It's so raw.' 'It's like MAFS on steroids. With MAFS, you kinda know what to expect now - cheating scandals, wine throwing - it's textbook.

I'm a single mum but have had 4 kids in 13 months – I have to plan my life in advance and have already had FOUR prams
FAMILY PLANS She admitted it was hard to come up with names for all four of her kids Sarah Bull A MUM has left people stunned after revealing she's had four children in just over a year. Shauna explained that her family has grown exponentially in the past 13 months, during which time she had two sets of twins. 5 5 5 5 In a picture slideshow on TikTok, she shared a snap of herself pregnant, and wrote over the top: "Told them I had four children in just over a year." "They said there's no way that could happen," Shauna added in the next bump pic. She then shared pictures of the two sets of twins she had 13 months apart - Frankie and Fenton in 2021 and Louie and Luca in 2022. And referring to just how much they all look alike, Shauna said it was a "literal copy and paste". People were quick to comment on the snaps, with one writing: "Omg the odds on this are just crazy!" "Wowwww you're so blessed but Jesus I take my hat off to you," another sighed. "I'm on my 4th now - he was prem just got him home and it's brutal. "My other 3 girls are 7,13,14 so not like I have 4 babies lol." "Iv'e got twins (they are 3 now) I would love another but I'm scared of having twins again," a third wrote, adding: "What it's like having 2 sets girl?" "I do it alone - so hard, but not always hard," Shauna replied. Mum-of-twins shares what she looked like before & after giving birth and people beg to know if 'Dad kept the receipt' "How of earth did you come up with 4 boys names you liked?" someone else wondered. To which Shauna responded: "It was a TASK!!! "I used all my preferred names in my first twins' first and middle names. "I wasn't planning on anymore so my second set was chosen by my mum!" "Oh God I can't imagine your pregnancy scares. I'd be spiralling!!!" another admitted. "Buttt how amazing is this tho!" What are the different types of twins? TWINS are when two children are produced in the same pregnancy. They can be identical or different, and two boys, two girls, or a girl and a boy. Twins are quite rare, but are usually born completely healthy What are the different types of twins? Monozygotic – identical twins ('one cell' twins) Dizygotic – also known as 'fraternal', non identical twins. Babies are no more alike than siblings born at separate times, and they can be the same or different sexes Conjoined twins – identical twins that are joined together. They are extremely rare, and it's estimated they range from one in 49,000 to 189,000 births, although around half are stillborn, and one third die within 24 hours. Can identical twins be two different sexes? Identical twins are always of the same sex because they form from the same fertilised egg that contains either female or male chromosomes. The single egg is divided into two separate embryos, and they occur in about three in every 1000 deliveries worldwide. Therefore, boy/girl twins are always fraternal (or dizygotic), as their chromosomes are either XY (male) or XX (female). What are Di Di twins? Di Di stands for Dichronic Diamniotic, and they are the common type of twins. They have their own amniotic sacs and placenta, so are just sharing the womb of the mother, and are therefore not identical. There are few complications with Di Di twins, so have a good chance of being born completely healthy without intervention from your doctor. Di di twins are more likely to be non-identical than identical. "I'm staying single to avoid those pregnancy scares... I just know I'd get quads next," Shauna laughed. "So you basically have quads and all boys, that's just amazing! Nearly a football team lol!" someone else joked. "Oh wow," another wrote. "I have a 14 month gap between my youngest two. I can't even imagine doing that with 4! "They are gorgeous and are going to be so close!" "How do you get the baby sitters tho?" someone else questioned. "Can't imagine my daughter being like 'can you look after my 4 kids all around the same age'. "I wouldn't be able to cope!" "I literally have to plan at least 6 months in advance," Shauna said. "Luckily my brother and his girlfriend help me a lot." I'm staying single to avoid those pregnancy scares... I just know I'd get quads next! Mum-of-four Shauna Another question she received multiple times in the comments section was which pram she uses. She replied in another video, as she reeled off the prams she's had so far - the Bugaboo Donkey 3, a Joie collapsible twin stroller, the My Babiie twin stroller and a £970 quad pram from Lots of Babies. Now that the boys are a bit older, she uses a pull along trolley in situations that would require them to walk a long way. 5

Watch: New York graduating class features 15 sets of twins
June 23 (UPI) -- Attendees at a high school graduation on New York's Long Island were left seeing double when 15 sets of twins walked across the stage to accept their diplomas. The Class of 2025 at Plainview-Old Bethpage John F. Kennedy High School walked across the graduation stage Saturday, and among them were 15 sets of twins. Some of the students said they didn't even notice the unusually high number of twins until some mothers started noticing. "We are friends with a lot of them, but we never counted until our mom and a few of the other twin moms took a count," twin Chloe Manzo told Greater Long Island. "We were like, 'What?'" Principal Heather Dvorak said the school previously saw nine sets of twins and one set of triplets graduate together in 2014. "Each class has their own unique culture and vibe," Dvorak told Newsday. "This year, I knew coming in that they we're gonna be very unified." All 15 sets of twins in the Class of 2025 are fraternal, not identical, so teachers have been spared the possibility of mistaken identity. "Most, if not all, have been in the district since kindergarten," Timothy Lamb, the school's assistant principal, told "Many met as infants because the parents joined a 'parents of twins' group. They're all very friendly with each other. They're all close. It's like they have a little clique."
