3 underrated Netflix movies you should watch this weekend (July 4-6)
Netflix is filled with great movies. That is both a great blessing and a great curse. If you're trying to find a great movie to watch, you definitely have options, but the problem might come when you have to pick one to actually put on. Thankfully, we've pulled together this list of underrated movies available on Netflix. Each of these movies is worth watching, even if they're not ones you might think to put on. Recommended Videos We also have guides to the best new movies to stream, the best movies on Netflix, the best movies on Hulu, the best movies on Amazon Prime Video, the best movies on Max, and the best movies on Disney+. Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation (2015) Maybe the most underrated Mission: Impossible movie, Rogue Nation stands up with the best installments this series has ever produced. Although the plotting in all these films isn't really the point, this one follows Ethan Hunt as he battles an organization of skilled operatives known as the Syndicate. What's more crucial, though, is that this film introduces Rebecca Ferguson's Ilsa Faust, a potential double agent whose loyalties remain a mystery through much of the film's running time. Ferguson was the first female lead in the entire series to go blow for blow with Tom Cruise, and she walks away with the entire movie when all is said and done. You can watch Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation on Netflix. The Sugarland Express (1974) Before Steven Spielberg became the Steven Spielberg, he directed The Sugarland Express. The movie, which is based on a true story, follows a pair of married outlaws who lose their baby to the state and become determined to get him back. After breaking her husband out of jail, the two set off on an extended car chase across Texas and eventually take a state trooper hostage. It's a thrilling, surprising movie that feels totally unlike anything else that Spielberg made over the course of his career. Anchored by a brilliant performance by Goldie Hawn, it feels like a window into a totally different career the director might have had. You can watch The Sugarland Express on Netflix. The Redeem Team (2022) Netflix has not one but two excellent basketball documentaries about the U.S. Olympic team. The Redeem Team is the first and tells the story of the 2012 U.S. men's basketball team as they fight for redemption on the world stage after a disappointing outing in 2008. Many of the biggest stars in the world were on hand to play in the Olympics and to discuss their experience in this documentary, including LeBron James, Carmelo Anthony, and Dwyane Wade. The story and interviews provide insight into some of the best players in the history of the game. You can watch The Redeem Team on Netflix.

3 underrated Netflix movies you should watch this weekend (June 27-29)
Netflix is one of the definitive sources of entertainment for modern moviegoers. Even if you know you want to watch something on Netflix, actually choosing a title can be more complicated than it sounds. The algorithm can't possibly surface everything on the surface, which can lead you to choose from a subset of what's actually available. We've pulled together a list of three underrated titles that are all worth your time and consideration. Check them out below: Recommended Videos We also have guides to the best new movies to stream, the best movies on Netflix, the best movies on Hulu, the best movies on Amazon Prime Video, the best movies on Max, and the best movies on Disney+. The Power of the Dog (2021) Another Oscar favorite that has been forgotten in the years since, The Power of the Dog is a hugely intelligent thriller that almost demands to be seen twice. The film follows two brothers on a Montana ranch whose lives are upended when one of them decides to marry. As the other begins to torment his brother's new family, we begin to learn exactly why he's so malicious. Benedict Cumberbatch is revelatory here, and director Jane Campion creates one of the great modern westerns of the past 30 years. You can watch The Power of the Dog on Netflix. The Intern (2015) One of the gentlest and smartest 21st-century comedies, Nancy Meyers's The Intern tells the story of a retiree who decides to become an intern for a fashion startup. Because of his age, experience, and gentle demeanor, he forms a growing friendship with the company's boss and founder, who is trying to keep her comedy and her relationship alive at the same time. The Intern is smart, subtle, and anchored by two excellent performances from Anne Hathaway and Robert De Niro. It's exactly the kind of gentle movie we need more of. You can watch The Intern on Netflix. Dunkirk (2017) Although there was plenty of love for Dunkirk when it first hit theaters, the movie has since been somewhat forgotten in comparison to Christopher Nolan's other great films of the past decade. If you never watched it in theaters or know you're due for a rewatch, Dunkirk is likely to be more bracing than you remember. The film tells the story of the British troops who were evacuated from Dunkirk after being surrounded by German forces and does so from three dueling perspectives. At turns terrifying, exhilarating, and moving, Dunkirk is a tribute to its characters and an honest attempt to remind us how terrifying their circumstances were. You can watch Dunkirk on Netflix.

3 underrated Amazon Prime Video movies you should watch this weekend (June 27-29)
If you've ever found yourself browsing through Amazon for something to watch before realizing that you've been doing that for a full hour, you're not alone. Actually picking something to watch can feel almost impossible when you're overwhelmed by the sheer volume of choices. We've done the hard work of picking something for you. This is a list of three very different underrated movies that are all worth checking out as June comes to a close. Recommended Videos We also have guides to the best new movies to stream, the best movies on Netflix, the best movies on Hulu, the best movies on Amazon Prime Video, the best movies on Max, and the best movies on Disney+. Gattaca (1997) One of the most interesting sci-fi movies of the 1990s, Gattaca is set in a future where people are sorted into two genetic classes. When an aspiring pilot decides to buy the genetic sequence of someone with supposedly superior genes, he's able to sneak his way into a different life. As an investigation into the death of a Gattaca officer threatens to unravel it all, he'll have to fight to retain everything he's gained. Gattaca is a sharp look at how stratification happens and the ways it pits people against one another. The film also stars Uma Thurman and Ethan Hawke at the peak of their movie star careers. You can watch Gattaca on Amazon Prime Video. Didi (2024) The coming-of-age genre has been around for decades, but Didi offers a fairly unique spin on some of the stale elements. The movie follows a Taiwanese American boy who is living in 2008 at the age of 13 as he has a particularly revelatory summer, learning how to skate, flirt, and appreciate everything his mother has sacrificed for him. The best coming-of-age movies are often actually about what it means to realize that your parents are people too, and Didi is a brilliant examination of how one boy comes to understand the world he's been born into. You can watch Didi on Amazon Prime Video. Traffic (2000) Anchored by a remarkably deep cast, Traffic tells a myriad of interconnected stories about the drug trade in the United States and Mexico. While some elements of the film have aged strangely (including the color grading that denotes which story you're watching at any given moment), the film as a whole offers a remarkably nuanced look at all the ways the drug trade can impact your life, even if you're sitting in a powerful seat in the U.S. government. It's a movie about an intractable problem, an admirably nuanced look at how unsolvable it is. You can watch Traffic on Amazon Prime Video.

Popstar: Never Stop Never Stopping (2016) Music mockumentaries are arguably the best parody movies. This is Spinal Tap was revolutionary in satirizing rock stars, while Walk Hard reshaped how audiences viewed music biopics. While not as popular as Spinal Tap and Walk Hard, Popstar: Never Stop Never Stopping successfully carved its place in this space as a parody of 21st-century artists. Conner Friel (Andy Samberg) headlines one of the biggest pop hip-hop groups in the world, The Style Boyz, with his childhood friends Lawrence Dunn (Akiva Schaffer) and Owen Bouchard (Jorma Taccone). After the band breaks up, Conner goes solo as Conner4Real, and the first album is a hit. After the second album flops, Conner must find a way to maintain relevancy. Because it's a Lonely Island production, the songs are laugh-out-loud funny, with Finest Girl (Bin Laden Song) and Equal Rights as the standouts. Stream Popstar: Never Stop Never Stopping on Netflix. Pig (2021) Nicolas Cage is first-team all-fearless. The gonzo actor isn't afraid to take chances and make bold decisions in his roles. Now, he's a recluse who lives in the Oregon forests. Rob makes a living by hunting for truffles with his foraging pig. One night, unknown assailants attack Rob and steal his prized pig. June 17th, 1994 (2010) June 17, 1994 — a day that will live in infamy. The day began as one of celebration in the sports world. The New York Rangers hosted their victory parade after winning the Stanley Cup. Arnold Palmer played his last round at the U.S. Open. The World Cup kicked off in the U.S. The Houston Rockets and New York Knicks faced off in the NBA Finals. All of those events would have been the top story on any other day but June 17, 1994. That was the day O.J. Simpson was charged with double homicide. Simpson proceeded to flee from the police in his white Bronco. The Simpson story made national headlines, so much so that the police chase interrupted coverage of the NBA Finals. There have been so many Simpson documentaries that cover the case. How to Be Single (2016) If you have an X account, then you've probably seen the famous scene from How to Be Single where Dakota Johnson asks the cab driver to take her home. It's a hilarious moment in a surprisingly charming movie. Robin loves to party and takes Alice under her wing. Meg has second thoughts about having a baby. Lucy plans to use online dating to find her husband. 3 underrated Amazon Prime Video movies you should watch this weekend (June 20-22)
In addition to being a central hub for many people's shopping, Amazon also has a pretty impressive library of streaming titles. If you're looking for something to watch, you might be overwhelmed by the sheer number of choices available. If you're looking for a way to hone in on what you'd actually like to watch, we've got you covered. We've pulled together three great, underrated movies that are all available on Prime Video and are all well worth your time: Recommended Videos We also have guides to the best new movies to stream, the best movies on Netflix, the best movies on Hulu, the best movies on Amazon Prime Video, the best movies on Max, and the best movies on Disney+. I Like Movies (2022) If you think you're the cinephile in your friend group, then I Like Movies was made for you. The film tells the story of a socially awkward teenager who takes a job at a video store in the mid-2000s and develops a complicated relationship with his older female supervisor. Funny and heartfelt in a way that only indies can seem to get away with, I Like Movies is both an earnest ode to loving movies and a reminder of how intense our feelings can be when we're 17. I Like Movies is shaggy, funny, and features a cast of actors you probably won't recognize. You can watch I Like Movies on Amazon Prime Video. Midnight Cowboy (1969) More than 50 years later, Midnight Cowboy still feels as transgressive as it did when it was first released in 1969. The movie follows a young man from a small town who moves to New York City, convinced that he'll attach himself to a wealthy woman who can keep him in comfort. Instead, he finds himself in poverty and lives in a rundown, abandoned apartment with hustler Enrico 'Ratso' Rizzo. As the two begin working together to earn cash, they form a friendship that becomes their only lifeline as they struggle to make ends meet in a city less hospitable than either of them anticipated. You can watch Midnight Cowboy on Amazon Prime Video. Ford v Ferrari (2019) There aren't a ton of great racing movies, but Ford v Ferrari is one of the very best. The film tells the true story of the men that Ford brought in in an attempt to compete with Ferrari at the 24-hour race at Le Mans. In chronicling the many challenges that come with trying to build something in collaboration with corporate overlords, the film also has interesting resonances with what it's like to work in Hollywood. Anchored by great movie star work from Christian Bale and Matt Damon, Ford v. Ferrari is sturdy and functional in ways that few modern movies of any size manage to be. You can watch Ford v. Ferrari on Amazon Prime Video.
