It happened shortly before 10:30 p.m. What we know According to police, the investigation revealed a subject was attempting to steal a vehicle in a parking lot when the owner of the vehicle confronted the subject – and they exchanged gunfire. The vehicle owner suffered a gunshot wound to the leg and was taken to the hospital. The suspect fled the scene before police arrived. There were no other reported injuries. A 55-year-old man from Elliot Lake has been charged after a collision in a grocery store parking lot quickly escalated into threats with a baseball bat. (File) A 55-year-old man from Elliot Lake has been charged after a collision in a grocery store parking lot quickly escalated into threats with a baseball bat. The incident took place June 10 around 1 p.m., when the complainant noticed their vehicle had been struck by the vehicle parked next to them. 'The vehicle owner was spoken to and a verbal argument ensued,' Ontario Provincial Police said in a news release Monday. 'The vehicle owner then escalated matters when he retrieved a baseball bat from his vehicle and threatened the complainant. They departed prior to police arrival but was later arrested.' Charges include assault with a weapon, failing to stop after an accident and two counts of driving while suspended. The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Elliot Lake on Aug. 14.
