Google introduces AI mode to users in India

Google introduced its AI mode, a Q&A-style search tool, to users in India today. The company said that this tool is still in the experimental stage and users will need to opt in to it through Search Labs. Once a user has opted in, they can ask queries in English. Google didn't specify whether it plans to support local languages or when that might be available. Users can search for answers to complex, multi-part queries such as 'My kids are 4 and 7 and have lots of energy. Suggest creative ways to get them active and moving indoors, especially on hot days, without needing a lot of space or expensive toys.' Additionally, users can ask follow-up questions to refine results. Google started testing AI mode with premium subscribers in the U.S. earlier this year. The company then started broadly rolling out the feature to all U.S. users after its Google IO event. Over time, the company has added a shopping feature, introduced voice and image search support, and also introduced ads. The company said that voice and image search features are supported for users in India, given that voice is a popular mode for search. It added that the AI mode is powered by a custom version of Gemini 2.5. The company also noted that early testers of the AI mode are asking 2-3x longer queries. Google Search's AI Mode gets chatty with its new Search Live feature

Google TL;DR Google is rolling out a new voice search experience for AI Mode in the Google app for Android and iOS. The new Search Live feature lets you have a natural conversation with Google Search, much like Gemini Live. The feature offers AI-generated audio responses to your queries and lets you ask follow-up questions for additional information. Google previewed a new voice search experience called Search Live at I/O this year. Like Gemini Live, this new feature lets users have a natural, back-and-forth conversation with Google Search and ask follow-up questions. Search Live rolled out to a few users in the Google app for iOS earlier this month, and Google has now announced broader availability for US users on Android and iOS. Search Live is available as part of the AI Mode experiment in Labs. You can try it out by tapping the new 'Live' icon in the Google app and asking questions like, 'What are some tips for preventing a linen dress from wrinkling in a suitcase?' Search Live will offer an AI-generated audio response, and you can ask follow-up questions if you need additional information. The feature also gives you access to relevant links from across the web, making it easy for you to delve deeper. You can even continue your Search Live conversation after switching to another app, view transcripts of the conversation, and resume previous conversations by heading to the AI Mode history. Google says Search Live uses 'a custom version of Gemini with advanced voice capabilities' that offers 'reliable, helpful responses no matter where, or how, you're asking your question.' The feature also uses Google's query fan-out technique to show you 'a wider and more diverse set of helpful web content.' Currently, Search Live does not offer the Project Astra-powered camera capability that Google showcased at I/O, which lets you ask questions about what's in your camera's viewfinder in real time. Google plans to roll it out in the coming months. Got a tip? Talk to us! Email our staff at Email our staff at news@ . You can stay anonymous or get credit for the info, it's your choice.

Google's getting some new voices on your phone (APK teardown)

Mishaal Rahman / Android Authority TL;DR A few months ago, Google introduced four new voices for AI Mode for Search in a Google app beta. In the latest beta, those voices are no longer limited to AI Mode. You can now hear those same voices when you perform a voice search through the mic icon. Gemini Live offers a wide range of AI voices to choose from, allowing you to find the one that's most pleasing to your ear. Google also recently added voice options for Search's AI Mode. Now there's another area where you'll be able to customize your AI voice preferences. Authority Insights story on Android Authority. Discover You're reading anstory on Android Authority. An APK teardown helps predict features that may arrive on a service in the future based on work-in-progress code. However, it is possible that such predicted features may not make it to a public release. When we discovered earlier this year that Google was planning to add voice search capabilities to AI Mode for Search, we found that users would have four different voices to choose from. At the time, the voice settings page listed these options as Jungle, Lime, Royal, and Sapphire. However, we later found that the names were changed to something more space-related: Cosmo, Neso, Terra, and Cassini. Although these voice options were initially only available for AI Mode, it looks like these voices won't be limited to just that feature anymore. AssembleDebug / Android Authority In our latest APK teardown of the Google app (version beta), we have learned that you'll also hear these same four voices when you perform a voice search through the mic icon. This is the case for the Pixel launcher/widget and for the Google app's homescreen. Previously, this feature only used a single female voice. In the video below, you can hear the Neso voice in action. AI Mode for Search just recently rolled out broadly for users in the US. If you haven't tried it yet, see what we thought of the feature in our hands-on. Got a tip? Talk to us! Email our staff at Email our staff at news@ .
