Curbside collection times change due to extreme heat
Curbside collection across Barrie will start earlier than usual this week due to the hot and humid weather.
The City says residents with a Tuesday and Wednesday collection day need to have their waste curbside by 5 a.m. this week due to the extreme heat. The earlier collection time was also in place for Monday's collection.
'These measures are in place to ensure the safety of waste collection staff during heat,' the City stated.
During the hot summer months, the City say these types of requests are often possible when Environment Canada predicts daytime highs or humidex values of 30C or higher.
"If these temperatures are forecasted, residents are asked to put their waste out for curbside collection any time after 7 p.m. the night before, or before 5 a.m. on collection day,' the City stated.
'This allows crews to get a head start on the day and take more breaks to stay safe in the heat. On early collection days, your curbside materials may be collected any time up until 7 p.m.,' it continued.
