Water activities suspended on Lachine Canal until Wednesday after heavy rainfall
Kayaking and other water activities on Lachine Canal are suspended until July 16, 2025 after the heavy rainfall. (Lachine Canal) Following the weekend's heavy rain, canoeing, kayaking and all other water activities are prohibited on Montreal's Lachine Canal until at least Wednesday. Parks Canada, which manages the canal, said that the City of Montreal advised the federal agency to close the canal to nautical activities because it needed to discharge water from a drain pipe following the storms. 'For safety reasons, a suspension of nautical activities such as canoeing, kayaking, paddle boarding and fishing is in effect until Wednesday, July 16 at 5:17 p.m. Swimming is forbidden at all times,' Parks Canada said.

THERE'S A LAKE an hour from London where you can pretend you are in the Maldives for the day. And for keen explorers, scuba diving is also available - where divers can discover submerged wrecks. Dotted around the perimeter of the lake are a number of sandy beaches making it feel more like a coastal spot. Then for those who want to extend their stay, there are also some luxury lodges complete and even a BBQ hut for hire. On the lake itself, there are two aqua parks including one for little ones aged between two and six-years-old. At the main aqua park, a huge inflatable course set 25metres from the shoreline, boasts slides and obstacles. This course costs £25 per person. Then at the Kids Aqua Park, there is a range of smaller inflatables suitable for splashing around, also with slides and obstacles. This course costs £15 per person. Guests at this TUI resort get waterpark access If you get tired of being wet, there are also plenty of things to do on dry land, including a climbing wall with 15 different routes The wall is suitable for both adults and children, of all experience levels and costs £15 per person for a 30-minute clip and climb session. Or you can have a go at some archery for £15 per person. Alternatively, you can just sit back and relax on Carp Beach, which is the lake's family-friendly beach sectioned off from all other watersports activities. A day pass to the beach costs £30 per adult and £7.50 per child and it is supervised by lifeguards. 6 6 You can also see spectacular views of the lake by going on the zip wire that whizzes above the waters and paddlers below. For parents needing a little R&R, the wellness centre is home to a woodfired lakeside sauna that overlooks the blue waters of the lake, woodfired hot tubs, a plunge lagoon and a relaxation area with sim loungers and a spacious deck with views across the lake. A wellness day pass costs £80 per person or £150 for two people. Other activities available at the lake include axe throwing, yoga and dinghy sailing. Throughout the summer there are a number of events on at the lake too, including perimeter swims. If you have your own motorhome or camper van you can also stay at one of eight pitches, from £20. 6 Alternatively, you can stay in one of the lodges including some that hover above the water just like they do in the Maldives. One recent visitor said: "I never imagined that I could be blown away on a holiday in Kent. St Andrews Lakes lodges or boat houses are just amazing. "Everything you need for peace tranquility and relaxing, looking out onto an aqua lake where the fish come to greet you. "If you want the Maldives but don't want to pay or travel too far, then this is as good if not better - I'm talking from experience." Chores Make for Great Summers and Résumés
Holly Peterson's 'Dealing With Lots of Messy Young Houseguests? Consider a Chore Doc' (Review, June 28) brought to mind our experience with six school-aged children. In lieu of hosting sleepovers and birthday parties with scads of youngsters, we told our kids that they could invite their friends to our cottage on the Chesapeake Bay for any length of time during the summer. At the cottage, they had unlimited use of two sailboats, two ski boats and a dinghy for fishing or crabbing, and the accompanying equipment needed for safe boating and water sports. The only condition was that they participate in family chores for part of the morning. One summer my husband decided the exterior of the cottage needed to be restained. We promptly gave the youngest contingent the bottom rows of siding, the teenyboppers the next rows up and the high schoolers and college kids the upper sections. Every morning for a week, they happily slapped on stain, knowing they would be able to use the toys until dark, gas and refreshments included.

Look: Free swimming, kayaking lessons for kids in Fujairah this summer
Amid the scorching UAE summer, children as young as seven in Fujairah are making the most of the heat by taking part in free summer activities that many typically reserve for cooler months. As part of the 'Fujairah Summer' campaign that kicked off on June 25 under the slogan 'Summer Splash', kids have a chance to practice many water activities like swimming and kayaking. The Beach Summer Camp, organised by the Fujairah International Marine Club for children aged 7 to 16 years old, will be running until July 21, 2025. Stay up to date with the latest news. To develop essential life skills, promote healthy habits, and provide structured sports training under the supervision of qualified professionals, the initiative was launched as part of directives from Sheikh Mohammed bin Hamad Al Sharqi, Crown Prince of Fujairah. The comprehensive plan submitted by Fujairah International Marine Club for the summer beach programme not only includes physical water sports like kayaking, swimming and powerboating, it also provides participants with educational activities such as awareness sessions focused on marine environmental conservation. So far 75 children have taken part in the summer campaign. Organisers have clarified that the programme has seen a strong turnout from both male and female attendees so far. Activities are held daily from 5.00pm to 7.00pm, excluding weekends. The drive aims at fostering a culture of active and responsible lifestyles within the community and enhancing awareness of the value of marine sports in developing youth talents, said the Fujairah International Marine Club.
