Wax lyrical: Taylor Swift gets lucky 13 Madame Tussauds statues
LONDON, July 24 — US pop megastar Taylor Swift will be honoured with 13 waxworks of her at Madame Tussauds venues around the globe, the museum said yesterday. In honour of Swift's lucky number, 13 of the waxwork museum's 22 branches will each receive a statue of the 'Love Story' and 'Blank Space' singer, in what it called the 'most ambitious project' of its 250-year history. The statues were inspired by some of the 35-year-old songwriting sensation's looks from her record-shattering 'Eras Tour' from 2023 to 2024. With 149 shows across the world over nearly two years, the tour raked in US$2 billion, making it the most lucrative in music history to date. More than 40 artists worked for more than a year on the statues of Swift, one of the most acclaimed artists of her generation with 14 Grammy Awards. 'This is the most ambitious project in Madame Tussauds' 250-year history, which only feels right to reflect the stratospheric status of Taylor Swift,' said Danielle Cullen, the museum's senior figure stylist. UK-based Swifties are well served, with one waxwork slated for London and another for the northern seaside resort town of Blackpool. Another 10 will find a permanent home at the branches of Madame Tussauds in Amsterdam, Berlin, Budapest, Los Angeles, Hong Kong, Las Vegas, Nashville, New York, Orlando and Sydney. The thirteenth statue, which will travel around the remaining museums, will begin its worldwide walkabout with a residency at Madame Tussauds Shanghai. — AFP

Couple 'who 'got stuck' in Blackpool Madame Tussauds rang police

The charity worker said they had been having a great time walking through the exhibits and enjoying a drink at the venue's Coronation Street replica Rovers Return when they tried to leave they realised "everything was locked up" and the lights and escalators had been turned Robinson said he and his 44-year-old wife tried banging on the windows to attract the attention of passing members of the public, only to be ignored."A woman walked past and she thought we were waving so she waved back," he said. "She thought we were messing!" 'Nothing else to do' When the Robinsons realised no one was about to let them out, they called the police before heading back to the replica Rovers Return, complete with waxworks of iconic landlady Bet Police confirmed they were called to the museum at 18:10 GMT on 8 March following reports of two members of the public being locked in the premises."The manager attended at 18:34 to unlock the premises and the members of the public left at 18:44," said a force spokesperson."I think they thought it was a hoax," Mr Robinson said."We ended up going back to the bar and having a couple of drinks because there was nothing else for us to do."The toilets were locked so we both had to go for a wee in a bin - we didn't have a choice - but we offered to clean it up after."And we offered to pay for the drinks and everything - we're not thieves." The Madame Tussauds spokesperson said: "Our CCTV shows that our management team were on the premises throughout."During closure, the guests took an alternate exit route, which triggered our cameras and detection systems. They were immediately approached and led out of the building."Since this occurred, we have been in regular contact with the guests and it is our understanding that they were satisfied with the outcome."Mr Robinson joked that the incident had left him "traumatised" from sitting with Corrie veteran characters Ken and Deirdre Barlow in the Rovers Return for so long.
