Heat advisory in place today for the Pittsburgh area
A heat advisory in place today for the Pittsburgh area with temperatures expected to reach the 90s with heat indexes in the 100s. Any Alert Days Ahead? Due to the Heat Advisory issued by the NWS we have made today a First Alert Weather Day. Could potentially have another one in place Wednesday. Aware: From June 1 through July 27th, we have spent the 4th most time on record with temperatures at or above 75°. This has been a hot summer. No matter how you look at it, this summer has been a hot one. Data continues to show what we already know. The one I pulled yesterday was just how long we have seen temperatures at or above 75 degrees so far this 'summer'. For the stats, I pulled data from June 1 through this past Sunday, July 27th. Data shows that we stand at number 4 on the list of 'hottest' based on this, with a total of 658 hours spent at or above 75°. Last year, over the same span, we spent 706 total hours at or above 75°. For people who don't have a/c units, 75° is a good cutoff when it comes to the body's ability to cool down and recover from hot weather. It is also a good way of looking at how humid it has been over long stretches, with warmer temperatures happening when humidity levels are higher. Highs today should hit the low 90s. There is a heat advisory in place for Pittsburgh and surrounding areas through 8 this evening. Heat index values should hit triple digits. A heat advisory is issued for our area when the heat index value is expected to be between 100° - 105°. That's the case for today. We may also have a heat advisory issued on Wednesday with a set-up similar to today. I have Wednesday's high temperature also hitting the low 90s with high humidity levels. Interestingly, NOAA's Storm Prediction Center has us in a marginal risk for storms on Wednesday. Relief from the heat comes on Thursday with a cool front passing us by. Most of Thursday will still be humid, but I have highs not hitting the 80s. That to me may change. I am actually surprised that data shows us just in the 70s for the day. I have almost bumped up temperatures already, but will wait another day before bumping those highs up. To me, we should still have a hot airmass in places through at least noon. We will see more cloud cover, but it shouldn't take much to see highs in the 80s ahead of afternoon rain. Rain and storms will be strong and maybe severe as the cold front sweeps through. Behind the front, we will see more comfy air in place with highs in the upper 70s both Friday and Saturday. Low humidity values will make it comfy through at least next Tuesday. Pittsburgh will see temperatures near 90 degrees on Wednesday with future rain chances
High temperatures will shoot up to near 90 degrees today, and I have Pittsburgh seeing a high of 89°. WEATHER LINKS: Current Conditions | School Closings & Delays | Submit Your Weather Photos When it comes to your comfort level while outside, the temperature plays just a partial role. The other thing you want to monitor is where our humidity level is, and at least for today, humidity levels start off in the low range and will climb to the moderate range by the end of the day. Thursday will be dry and humid with morning lows near 70 and highs hitting the low 90s. I have Pittsburgh's high at 91°. Friday highs will be in the mid to upper 80s with morning lows in the mid to low 70s. Saturday and Sunday temperatures will look very close to Friday's temps. We could hit 90 degrees next week on Monday or Tuesday, with Monday having the higher chance of seeing the 90s. Humidity levels will be back in the high range tomorrow. Humidity is just a measure of moisture in the atmosphere. When high, it limits the efficiency of our bodies' natural way to cool down through evaporation. The drier the air, the more evaporation that takes place. Evaporation is a cooling process in which heat is released. When the air is more humid, you may notice you're more sweaty. Looking ahead, our next rain chance comes on Friday. Model data is leaning towards our best chance for rain happening on Saturday and not Friday. I am going to put rain chances equal when it comes to coverage for now, but I really think Friday's chance for rain should be higher. We have a front that noses its way into our area from the north and falls apart right on top of us. Remnants of this front will also be around on Saturday. Dangerous heat returns to Southeast Michigan this week
Thursday is a NEXT Weather Alert Day in Southeast Michigan for dangerous heat, which returns for one day only. The late part of this week is at the center of a fiery bullseye as temperatures and dewpoints spike. Highs on Thursday will top out in the low 90s, but the biggest issue is the heat index, which will reach the 100 to 105 degree range. When the heat index reaches these temperatures, the heat stress on your body overcomes its ability to cool itself on its own. With the criteria we expect to be at, a heat advisory will likely be issued by the end of the day on Wednesday. A warning requires three hours or more of 105-plus degrees heat indices. Take breaks in air conditioning, stay hydrated, and we'll have a chance to cool a bit on Friday.

Tracking storm chances Sunday afternoon in central Indiana
Good evening and what a night it turned out to be! We saw heavy storms earlier this afternoon, but since the storms have left, the night has been quiet. We will continue mostly quiet conditions the rest of the night, but an isolated shower or storm will be possible in the overnight hours. Lows are expected to fall into the mid-70s and areas of patchy fog will be possible. Storms are expected to return once again tomorrow afternoon, and a few of these storms could produce gusty winds. The main threat will be flash flooding as heavy downpours are expected tomorrow afternoon. Highs will be in the mid 80's. Storms continue into the overnight hours on Sunday and will persist through Monday. Heat will then start to build on Wednesday with a heat index near 100°. This is likely to persist through Friday.
