Casual Wedding Attire for Guests, Explained

Casual wedding attire might be one of the most debated dress codes printed on a wedding invitation. After all, the words casual and wedding could feel like a bit of an oxymoron—even at the most laid-back affair, there should still be a certain level of elevation to a guest's ensemble out of respect for the gravity of this major life event. When choosing to plan a casual or dressy casual wedding, a couple is asking for their guests to take a more relaxed approach to their style, yet likely would prefer you wear a step up (or two) from flip-flops and jean shorts. Ahead, we break down everything to know about what to wear to a casual wedding as a guest. Photo: Gioconda and August What Does Casual Wedding Attire Actually Mean If a wedding invitation arrives and dictates you should arrive in 'casual attire,' there's no need to pull a gown out of your closet. 'Casual wedding attire, or 'come as you are,' is the host's permission to skip formalities—but it's not an invitation to arrive unpolished,' advises creative director and stylist Carrie L. Goldberg. 'Casual events are intended to make guests feel at ease, and relieve the pressure of dressing up for a low-key welcome party, backyard ceremony, or recovery brunch.' She adds, 'When thinking about dressing for a casual wedding, consider this a step down (or two) from cocktail attire. Heels and ties are not required.' Dos and Don'ts of Dressing for a Casual Wedding A casual wedding dress code is definitely not as rigid as black tie—yet you still should understand the nuance that comes with these more relaxed guidelines. 'While the attire may read casual, be mindful to dress in a way that respects the celebration you're attending,' says Goldberg. 'Your favorite athleisure for running errands isn't what the couple intends for you to arrive in; instead, think of the type of look you'd wear to a nice dinner party or weekend lunch with friends.' If a casual wedding event is in your future, it's best to generally steer clear of flip-flops, graphic tees, and blue denim (unless it fits the venue). A good rule of thumb? 'Skip anything too rumpled or sporty and focus on ease and effortlessness,' says the stylist. 'The idea of a casual wedding is to allow guests to shop their closets rather than feeling the pressure to buy something new for the occasion (unless, of course, they'd like to!).'

Beer fans obsessed with Coors Light's latest innovation: 'That would go perfect with my shoes'

Coors Light's new cooling bow tie are what fans believe is 'much needed for a hot Florida wedding.' The beer brand made headlines after a groom sported its first-ever tuxedo designed with built-in cooling tech to keep grooms cool during sweltering summer weddings. The tux features hidden ice packs and a 'Chill-o-stat' that turns blue when the suit hits its chilliest temperature, similar to the color of their cans. The groom also rocked the tux with a 'BrrrTie,' a $32 sold-out accessory that delivers up to 40 minutes of cooling around the neck. 'If any beer is going to keep you chill during your vows with a cold-activated tux and bow tie, it's Coors Light,' said Marcelo Pascoa, VP of marketing. 'With the BrrrTie, and a Coors Light delivering mountain cold refreshment in hand, we're giving people new ways to stay chill on their big Instagram users have been in a frenzy over the wedding attire and questioned why the outfit didn't exist on their wedding day. 'Everyone east of the Rockies could've used a Cold Tux this week!,' an Instgrammer wrote. Coors Light is known for its creative marketing strategies and collaborations with A-list stars. The brand made headlines for its promotional can redesign after MLB star Shohei Ohtani broke broke a light bulb at Citi Field while a Coors Light ad was showing in 2023. The broken bulb made it appear as if cans had a black box on them, which the company replicated in real life. Last year, country star Lainey Wilson joined the roster as the newest 'Coors Light Girl' before embarking on her successful 'Country's Cool Again' tour. While Coors Light has received praise for its marketing efforts, it also faced some lighthearted backlash when an ad was published with a spelling error. The brand took it in stride, joking that it 'wasn't the best Monday' and appreciating fans' 'very chill' attitude in pointing out the mistake. Despite the hiccup, Coors Light has continued to raise the bar with its creative campaigns. Its drinnks and branded apparel were recently featured at the Vegas Golf Classic and highlighted in an ad starring NFL star Patrick Mahomes. Florida Panthers team members also handed cans to fans who attended their victory parade following their momentous Stanley Cup win. The bow ties deliver up to 40 minutes of cool temperatures Patrick Mahomes was featured in a Coors Light advertisement last May Coors Light was riding high in 2023, with sales surging 18 percent in the wake of Bud Light's partnership with Dylan Mulvaney, a trans influencer. By August, Coors Light and its sister brand Miller Lite had outsold Bud Light by a staggering 50 percent. But the momentum didn't last. Things took a turn after Molson Coors, the parent company of Coors Brewing Company, rolled back its internal diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) initiatives — a move that drew criticism and marked the beginning of a tougher stretch for the brand. Early this year, Molson Coors reported an 11.3 percent decline in net sales during its first quarter — the company's steepest drop since 2021. Now, the beer giant is aiming to recover by expanding its lineup to include premium brews and non-alcoholic options. But it faces stiff competition from a flood of celebrity alcohol brands and the . 'We remain focused on continuing to improve the efficiency of our business through enhanced capabilities to drive margin expansion,' said CFO Tracey Joubert.

Dagne Dover's best-tested garment bag is over half off and is a must for summer weddings

I'm a bit of a novice at packing for weddings, but now that I know more folks who are getting married, I'm considering upgrading my current plastic slip from the dry cleaner to a proper garment bag to protect my wedding guest attire. After perusing CNN Underscored's archive to find a bag that would fit my needs, I came across Dagne Dover's Capri Garment Bag. It was evaluated by our testing writer Michelle Rae Uy, who named it her top pick for gowns. In a stroke of luck, it just went on mega sale in three colors, dropping by 51% on the brand's site. Dagne Dover Capri Garment Bag Gowns, suits and even shoes will be safe and sound in Dagne Dover's trusty garment bag. It keeps clothing wrinkle free and has four zippered pockets for ties, hair accessories, jewelry and more. It's $153 off in the colors Warm Dust, Onyx and Dark Moss. At 67 inches, this garment bag is longer than most of its kind. Thankfully, it folds up and is compact enough to throw over your shoulder with its tote straps. The length is perfect for longer suits, gowns or anything else that you don't want creasing or cramming into a smaller bag. Rae recommended it for black-tie events, which is why I'm buying it for a wedding this summer. If the tote strap isn't for you, Dagne Dover is one step ahead. The garment bag also comes with a trolley sleeve that slips over the handles of a suitcase. Its variety of compartments for your shoes, phone and wallet, and its ability to fit up to three garments are a bonus for those looking to travel sans extra baggage. My initial drawback about committing to the bag was its steep price. However, now that it's over $150 off, I'm shocked to see that it hasn't sold out yet. With summer vacation just around the corner, many of us are gearing up for travel. Taking a weekender bag just isn't enough if you have to tote around formal attire, and purchasing a garment bag is a must if you want to keep your freshly pressed clothing crisp. Even if you aren't participating in any weddings, a garment bag is suitable for those who often fly or who commute on trains. This travel deal is worthwhile since it's an over half-off markdown on one of our best-tested items. The CNN Underscored deals team has over a decade of combined commerce journalism experience. Rikka Altland, Jacqueline Saguin and Elena Matarazzo curate one-offs and retailer-specific roundups of the best sales and deals each day to shop. Searching everything from coveted home essentials to beauty finds of the week, the team works across a wide variety of categories to ensure they're finding the best buys for readers. We frequently collaborate with testing writers who evaluate everything under the travel umbrella, like lounge sets suited to airline dress codes to durable luggage pieces.
