Around 5 p.m. Saturday, Cape Breton Regional Municipality (CBRM) said crews were responding to a fire in the area of the Kytes Hill subdivision. It said the fire was near heavy transmission power lines. About 30 minutes later, CBRM said there was a 'deliberate power outage' to support the firefighting efforts on the ground and in the air. Yukon wildfire remains out of control as Ethel Lake evacuation alert rescinded
The Yukon government has rescinded an evacuation alert for the area around Ethel Lake, but the nearby wildfire that prompted the advisory on June 24 continues to burn out of control. It says Ethel Lake Road will be open only to local traffic and the Ethel Lake campground will remain closed as it is being used to stage wildland fire crews who continue to work in the area. The government says fire behaviour on the so-called Francis Plateau fire in central Yukon, east of Stewart Crossing, was low on Monday with minimal smoke in the evening. The blaze is about 7.5 square kilometres in size. Yukon says crews are working along the south, southwest and western edges to extinguish hot spots and two helicopters are working to help bucket water. The fire in the Mayo region is one of about 85 active fires burning in Yukon and is one of the territory's seven so-called wildfires of note. Wildfires of note are either highly visible or pose a threat to public safety, a community or critical infrastructure such as a highway.

Wanapum fire, near Beverly, burns about 370 acres
Jun. 9—BEVERLY — A wildland fire closed a portion of State Route 243 north of Beverly Burke Road for about four and a half hours Saturday near Wanapum Dam and the Wanapum Village. The fire was reported at about 5 p.m., according to a statement from the Washington Department of Transportation. The road reopened at about 9:30 p.m. The fire was estimated at about 372 acres and was listed as contained as of Monday morning. Eric Linn, Grant County Fire District 10 chief, said land along the highway near Wanapum Dam is owned by a number of different federal and state agencies, which scrambles the fire management picture. While the fire was in GCFD 10's coverage area, the Federal Bureau of Land Management was the lead agency, Linn said. The BLM spokesperson could not be reached by press time. Burgum, Wright, others due back on the Hill this week
Interior Secretary Doug Burgum and Energy Secretary Chris Wright will be the most prominent among a trove of administration officials on Capitol Hill this week. Members of the Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee and the House Natural Resources Committee will question Burgum about his plan to cut Interior by roughly 30 percent. Lawmakers — particularly Democrats — are poised to grill the secretary about plans to scrap the department's solar programs, which are written off as 'Green New Scam technologies,' and a plan to create a new wildland fire bureau. Advertisement Also contentious is a proposal to transfer some national park sites to state management, an initiative Burgum argued could help slash the National Park Service budget by $900 million.
