Horse racing tips: ‘His rapid improvement shows no sign of stopping' – Templegate's 7-2 Saturday NAP

TEMPLEGATE takes on a busy Saturday of racing confident of bashing the bookies. Back a horse by clicking their odds below. Advertisement PABORUS (2.25 York, nap) Has won four of his past five starts and can keep his excellent run of form going here. He signed off last season clocking a fast time while winning in good company on the Southwell sand. That was over this trip and he struck on comeback at Thirsk last time out in April. He went through the gears with the minimum of fuss there and could have won by a lot more than the official margin of two lengths. He takes a fair hike in class here but looks well up to it for trainer Ed Bethell who really put himself on the map with a couple of big wins at Royal Ascot last week. With William Buick in the saddle he will take a lot of beating even at Group 3 level. KIND OF BLUE (2.10 Newcastle, nb) We'll stick with Wathnan Racing and their speedster in the Chipchase Stakes. He's a proven Group 1 sprinter who needed the run after a long break in France last time. James Fanshawe's flyer looks a cut above these rivals. Advertisement PAPPANO (3.15 Newcastle, treble) Has success on a Northumberland Plate! Jumps legend Willie Mullins is starting to make his mark on the level too and this former Gosden runner will relish this challenge in the big one at Newcastle. He stays and looks on a fair weight. Templegate's verdicts NEWCASTLE Advertisement Most read in Horse Racing Comment Exclusive 1.40 ARAMRAM ran well in the Wokingham last week, finishing like a train after missing the kick. He's best over this trip and could have more to offer. He's gone well on the all-weather before. Pocklington goes well here and is best after a break so don't worry about his 311 days off. He looks solid each-way. Advertisement Durham Castle is progressive and had a bit up his sleeve when going in at Windsor last time. This trip suits and he's another with tapeta form. Arctic Thunder came home strongly into second at Haydock on just his second run for Ed Walker and is another to note. 2.10 KIND OF BLUE is a proven Group 1 performer who should be much too good. Advertisement He finished last season winning the Champions Sprint at Ascot and can be forgiven his comeback in France last time when missing the break by half a furlong. He doesn't usually do that and will be much smarter away today. Ferrous is a classy handicapper who deserves a crack at this level. He won well here last time and is best over today's trip. Fair Angellica took Listed honours at Salisbury when enjoying the drop to this distance and can hold her own again. Advertisement Spycatcher is proven in this grade and is capable of hitting the frame wisely dropping back from seven furlongs. 2.40 CONTACTO went close at Goodwood last time on his first crack at this two-mile trip. He should come on for that first outing in nine months and he looks capable of better over extreme trips. Advertisement Godsend was well backed for the Plate but didn't quite get in. He's a typical Sir Mark Prescott improver who made it four in a row at Nottingham last time. This is his toughest assignment yet from another 7lb higher but he'll be right there. Humble Spark has four Newcastle wins on his CV and stays well. He was far from disgraced in this grade at Haydock last time and looks a player. Advertisement Savrola is consistent over slightly shorter trips and went close at Hamilton last time. He's got place claims. Gibside won over 2m2f at Chester last month and is another serious contender. 3.15 PAPPANO was useful on the level for the Gosdens and can take a step forward on this Flat debut for Irish genius Willie Mullins. Advertisement He has gone well in Listed company and looks on a fair weight under Jamie Spencer who can time his run right. East India Dock hit traffic issues when running a cracker in the Ascot Stakes and the Chester Cup winner looks a real threat. Zanndabad is a proven stayer from the Tony Martin yard that has won this race before. He had a nice warm-up for this at The Curragh last time. Advertisement Last year's winner Onesmoothoperator has a lot more weight this time but his liking for trip and track can take him into the frame. Who's Glen was a solid fifth to East India Dock at Chester and has place prospects. 3.45 NATIVE WARRIOR has some smart form over a mile and should enjoy Newcastle's straight over 7f which takes some getting. Advertisement He's dropped close to the mark that saw him go close in the Britannia Stakes at Royal Ascot last year and he was a solid second at Windsor 33 days ago. He can have a say in this wide-open contest. City Walk is interesting despite coming back from 540 days off. He won the Gosforth Park Cup sprint here but has stamina too and Saeed Bin Suroor should have him ready. Advertisement Zip looks a big price considering he was a solid second over course and distance last time. The veteran could easily make the frame again. Eldrickjones was ahead of him here in May and has gone close in hot company twice since. He's another with an each-way say. Dosman is back from nine months off and looks on a fair mark with trainer Roger Varian in decent form. Telemark ran better than seventh suggests at York last time and likes this trip. Advertisement YORK 1.55 ARCHIVIST relished this decent ground when scooting in by more than four lengths at Leicester earlier this month. That was just his second run for William Haggas and he can improve on this handicap debut over an ideal distance. Advertisement Cadarn is going the right way and landed back-to-back wins at Redcar before a little break. He showed good pace on the front end last time and relishes this trip. He looks a big danger under William Buick. Madame De Sevigne may just be better over seven furlongs but was just edged out over this mile at Nottingham and can't be written off. Barley may not have been entirely at home on soft ground in the Carlisle Bell on Wednesday after two decent runs on quicker going. Advertisement Shamrock Bay has few miles on the clock and has place claims for the Kublers despite going up in class. 2.25 PABORUS is improving with every run and had plenty in hand at Thirsk last time out in April. That was his first run in six months and he's had another little break since. Advertisement This seven-furlong trip on fast ground is ideal and he looked well up to Group 3 standard last time. William Buick can land a rare win in the Wathnan Racing colours for trainer Ed Bethell who is having a big season. Lethal Levi was just collared on the line in a Curragh Group 2 last time and has some hot handicaps on his CV. The slight worry is the extra furlong he tackles today but he'll take some pegging back from the front. Advertisement Formal deserves this hike in grade after taking a Listed prize at Epsom's Derby meeting. She goes on any ground and gets a big weight allowance as a three-year-old filly. Lake Forest was a good fifth in the Queen Anne at Royal Ascot 11 days ago. He tried to come from a long way back there and this drop in grade will definitely boost his chances. Advertisement 3.00 JM JUNGLE has a formidable record at York and comes here on the back of winning the red-hot Dash at Epsom last time. He's up 5lb for that but is in excellent form and should be well drawn in stall four. He can be relied on to go close again. Habooba went from the front when winning here last month ahead of the tip and the form has been franked. A 6lb rise may not stop him from following up. Advertisement Regal Envoy has a brilliant strike-rate for a sprinter and made it five wins from his past six runs at Windsor 19 days ago. This trip is ideal on any ground and he's in the mix under Oisin Murphy. Azure Angel clocked a personal best when scoring at Redcar last time. She had the best of the draw but beat the track record so it was still a good effort. Advertisement Squealer has been knocking on the door and was touched off at Doncaster three Saturdays ago. A 3lb rise is fair and he likes quick ground. Saudi Arabia launches student experiments to ISS

The “Madak Space” competition was created to help space enthusiasts turn their ideas into practical experiments in the ISS’s microgravity environment. The Saudi Space Agency (SSA) has announced that the winning experiments from its “Madak Space” competition have been launched to the International Space Station (ISS) as part of an international mission that lifted off from NASA’s Kennedy Space Centre in Florida. This achievement underscores Saudi Arabia’s commitment to scientific innovation and developing emerging talent in the growing field of space sciences. The mission carries 10 student-designed experiments developed by participants from Saudi Arabia and across the Arab world. Selected through the “Madak Space” competition, the projects explore microgravity’s impact on diverse fields such as the arts, plant biology and engineering. The initiative was organised by the SSA in partnership with the Mohammed bin Salman Foundation “Misk” and the “Ilmi” Science Discovery and Innovation Centre to encourage young people passionate about space science to turn their ideas into practical research. The competition drew more than 80,000 registrants from the Arab region, reflecting strong enthusiasm for scientific exploration and innovation. Submissions were divided into three thematic tracks, giving students the opportunity to tackle challenges across multiple disciplines. The launch marks a significant step in Saudi Arabia’s broader strategy to strengthen its role in international space programmes while fostering a knowledge-based economy. It also aligns with the goals of Saudi Vision 2030, which seeks to prepare a new generation to contribute effectively to the future of the space sector and drive the country’s scientific and technological progress.

Don't be fooled, Jake Paul vs Julio Cesar Chavez Jr is another boxing farce

On Saturday night, Jake Paul fights an opponent who might just legitimise his professional boxing career like never before. Julio Cesar Chavez Jr is the next man to step in the ring with 'The Problem Child' with their cruiserweight contest headlining the show in California. Whether we like it or not, Paul is a star attraction on the boxing landscape, one of its biggest draws with even Anthony Joshua among those giving real thought to fighting one of the game's most polarising figures. But being the biggest is still a considerably long away off from being among the best. Paul's previous 12 opponents are mix of influencers, former MMA fighters, unknown journeyman and a knackered Mike Tyson who was 30 years older than him when they met in their farcical bout last November. Tommy Fury, the only active boxer on his record (a description which is itself a bit of a stretch), handed him the only defeat of his career when they met in 2023. Chavez Jr represents a change in approach. The Mexican, son of the legendary Julio Cesar Chavez Snr who terrorised his opponents in the 1980s and 1990s, has fought 62 times as a professional, winning 54 of them. In 2011, he won the WBC middleweight title, defending one of the sport's most respected and revered belts three times. In 2017, he shared the ring with Saul 'Canelo' Alvarez in a huge all-Mexican dust-up, going the distance with a man who has been widely regarded as one of the best fighters on the planet for the last decade. Chavez Jr has genuine boxing pedigree at the highest level. Or rather, he had. In reality, the 39-year-old is another cleverly strategised cherry pick for Paul – one that could catapult him towards his own world title dream. Since losing his world title to Sergio Martinez in 2012, Chavez Jr has fought just 13 times – losing five of them. The vast majority of his 54 career wins came early on, with most of them coming against easy and mismatched opposition. Sound familiar? His fight with Canelo in 2017 was a huge spectacle, a box office hit that took place on Cinco de Mayo, the date reserved only for the biggest fights on the boxing calendar. But Canelo barely broke a sweat in winning all 12 rounds. Losing to Canelo is no disgrace. But in an attempt to return to the top table in 2019, Chavez Jr suffered one of the most humiliating nights of his career. 24 hours after missing weight by five pounds, he quit on his stool in the fifth round of his meeting with Daniel Jacobs, later citing a broken hand. Fans in attendance were not convinced, throwing food, drinks and anything else they could get their hands on into the ring, booing Chavez Jr as he was escorted backstage. His legendary father Chavez Snr, was among those in attendance, visibility disgusted with his son's performance. Jacobs was a fine operator and while the manner of defeat was poor, plenty of decent names were bested by the American. But it would get worse for Chavez Jr. He was back to fight UFC legend Anderson Silva in 2021. The Brazilian was 46 at the time of the fight having left UFC the previous year after a run of four defeats in five bouts. Silva had not boxed in 16 years. But the veteran still produced a split decision victory as he outboxed Chavez Jr, who again missed weight leading up to fight night. 16 months later, Paul fought Silva, comfortably beating the Brazilian. Chavez Jr returned to the ring last year, picking up a points win over another former MMA fighter in Uriah Hall in a close but dull contest. It has been a long time since Chavez Jr looked in any way fearsome in a boxing ring but obvious incentives in silencing Paul might be enough to stir the spirit that made his father such an icon of boxing. But under the surface, it is another cleverly calculated move that could have an almighty prize at the end of it for Paul. 'My goal is to become world champion and the WBA and WBC plan on ranking me depending on my performance,' Paul said. 'And once I'm ranked I can go for the title shot.' BetMGM Bonus Code WIREBG150: Bet $10 on Mets-Braves, Get $150 in Bonus Bets if You Win

The Mets had been the worst team in baseball over the past two weeks but their 7-3 victory over the Braves Wednesday night left them just a half game behind the first-place Phillies in the NL East. After losing the first two games, the Mets will look for the split – and a potential return to the division lead – tonight at Citi Field. You can wager on that game or any other on tonight's card after signing up the BetMGM bonus code WIREBG150 and taking advantage of its Bet $10, Get $150 in Bonus Bets if You Win offer. It awards three $50 bonus bets to new bettors who place a winning first bet of $10 or more. Bettors in the other states where BetMGM operates can use the BetMGM bonus code SBWIRE to get up to $1,500 in first-bet protection. This refunds an opening wager loss up to $1,500 with an equivalent bonus bet value. The Mets have gotten more than expected from tonight's starter Griffin Canning, who is 7-3 in his first season in New York with a 3.91 ERA. But that number has climbed this month as he's pitched to a 5.66 ERA in four June starts. Canning will be opposed by the Braves' Grant Holmes, who struck out 15 Rockies in just 6 1/3 innings two starts ago. Overall, Holmes is 4-6 with a 3.71 ERA. The Mets are slight moneyline home favorites on the sports betting apps. Coming of a two home run game, Juan Soto is the subject of one of a number of pre-built same-game parlays available at BetMGM: This parlay is offered at +775, meaning a $10 wager would pay out $87.50 ($10 stake + $77.50 profit). You can place just about any type of MLB wager you can think of after signing up with either of the BetMGM bonus code offers. These sportsbook promos are not only your gateway to standard spread, total and moneyline bets, but also same game parlays, wagers on the first five innings, various other parlay bets and live in-game betting. BetMGM Bonus Code Promos: Get $150 in Bonus Bets or $1500 First-Bet Offer It's been a spectacular couple of weeks for the sport of golf as the last two tournaments – the U.S. Open and the Travelers Championship have come down to the final hole on Sunday, with the eventual winners – J.J. Spaun and Keegan Bradley – each coming from behind and sinking putts on 18 to seal their respective wins. This week's Rocket Classic at Detroit Golf Club doesn't quite pack as much star power of the last two events but is worth a look. Patrick Cantlay was the pre-tournament favorite at +1000, ahead of Bradley (+1200), Min Woo Lee (+1800), Collin Morikawa (+2000) and Wyndham Clark (+2000). Keep an eye on Ben Griffin (+2200), who has won two of the last four Rocket Classics. The FIFA Club World Cup will fill out the final spots on its Round of 16 roster tonight. Real Madrid, the tournament's third favorite at +500 behind Paris Saint-Germain (+275) and Manchester City (+450) meets RB Salzburg at 9 p.m. There are also a number of international women's friendlies throughout the day today, capped by the USWNT vs Ireland tonight at 9 p.m. in Colorado. The US is a heavy -2000 favorite. You can bet anything on tonight's schedule after creating a new account with the BetMGM bonus code WIREBG150 in Michigan, New Jersey, Pennsylvania and West Virginia or the BetMGM bonus code SBWIRE elsewhere. Click on any BET NOW button on this page to get started.
