Woman's Husband Expects Her to Pay for Sister-in-Law's Wedding After She Gets 'Pretty Decent' Bonus
A 27-year-old mom earned a bonus from work and decided to save it for her son
However, her husband's family expected her to spend it on her sister-in-law's wedding and got mad at her when she didn't
She turned to Reddit to ask if she was in the wrongA 27-year-old woman is at odds with her in-laws after choosing to spend her work bonus on her son rather than her sister-in-law's wedding.
In a since-deleted Reddit post, the woman shared that she recently got "a pretty decent performance bonus" from her full-time job.
While the bonus was "nothing wild," she noted that it was "enough to give [her] some breathing room."
"My plan? Use it for our kid's savings. Not even for myself. Not for a vacation. Not even a new phone," she added. "Just stash it away for my son. Because let's be real life's expensive, and I don't want him to struggle the way I did growing up."
Her husband initially "agreed" and said she was "being smart" — until his sister's wedding came up.
"Suddenly, it's like my money isn't mine anymore," she wrote.
Her in-laws began making "little suggestions," telling her that she should spend the bonus on her sister-in-law's upcoming wedding. First, they suggested that the poster could "help with the flowers" and then asked if she would be willing to cover the venue's deposit.
"Before I could even blink, his mom was calling me, talking like it was already decided. 'You'll cover the catering, right? You just got that bonus,'' she recalled. "Excuse me? I said no. I said it nicely at first. I explained our plan, reminded them that we wanted to build something for our kid."
'My husband? He just sat there. Didn't back me up. Just sat quiet while his mom guilt tripped me over 'family' and 'celebrating once in a lifetime moments,'" she continued. "When I didn't budge, they turned on me. His mom said I was selfish. His sister texted me some passive-aggressive crap about how 'some people only care about their own.' "

The woman's husband seemingly took his family's side, telling her she was "overreacting' and that it was just 'one bonus' and that they could 'always save later.'
"Like .... are you serious? I work full time, manage our bills, handle everything in the house, and you think I owe your sister my bonus?" she questioned.
Still, the woman didn't budge and has since been uninvited to her sister-in-law's wedding. Now, her husband and in-laws are acting "cold" towards her. The poster feels like she is being "punished" for protecting her child, but turned to Reddit to ask if she made the right decision.
A vast majority of people in the comments defended her, insisting that her husband should have had her back.
'The fact that your husband sat there and said nothing while his family ganged up on you is the biggest problem here," one commenter wrote. "He's supposed to be your partner, not a silent spectator. You have a major husband problem, not a sister-in-law problem."
Others noted that if the sister-in-law can't afford such a big wedding, then she shouldn't be having one.
