Russian forces have seized control of a valuable lithium deposit in the Donetsk region of eastern Ukraine, depriving the country of a critical asset that could have helped support a new economic partnership with the United States. The deposit, just outside the Shevchenko village in western Donetsk, was captured in recent days, according to battlefield maps from independent groups tracking Russian advances through geolocated combat footage. Moscow's troops seized it as part of their summer offensive, which has achieved steady gains across Donetsk. Though relatively small — it covers only 100 acres — the deposit was seen by industry analysts as one of Ukraine's most valuable because of its rich concentration of lithium, a mineral essential for manufacturing advanced technologies such as electric batteries. The United States has designated lithium as critical to its economy and national security. The Trump administration has aimed to tap into Ukraine's vast lithium reserves, some of Europe's largest, through a recently signed landmark agreement granting it front-row access to the country's mineral wealth. But the capture of the Shevchenko deposit highlights a core challenge to the deal: The more territory Russian forces seize in Ukraine, the fewer resources Kyiv can offer to Washington. 'If Russian troops go further, capture more and more territory, they will control more and more mineral deposits,' said Mykhailo Zhernov, director of Critical Metals Corp, an American company that used to hold a license to exploit the Shevchenko deposit. Fatalities reported after Ukrainian attack on Russian city
Russian civilians have reportedly been killed and at least ten injured by a Ukrainian strike on a residential district in the city of Donetsk, the city's mayor, Alexey Kulemzin, said on Tuesday. 'Three or four hits' on peaceful areas, damaging a residential building as well as two public utilities, had taken place, he said, adding that the 'damage is quite significant.' Ambulances had evacuated ten people who were injured in the shelling, Kulemzin stated, noting 'preliminary information about fatalities.' Kulemzin had previously warned residents about loud blasts in the city, urging caution. The TASS news agency later reported at least ten powerful explosions in the capital of the Donetsk People's Republic (DPR). TASS reported that a multi-story residential building has been destroyed and several dozen vehicles damaged in the strike. The outlet's correspondent has also claimed that at least one person was killed in the attack and three were badly forces have regularly targeted residential neighborhoods in Donetsk throughout the ongoing conflict. Just days earlier, a unmanned aerial vehicles injured six teenagers and two adults, according to the DPR's war crimes documentation department. The incident occurred during a series of drone attacks that also damaged homes and vehicles in the area. City officials report dozens of civilian injuries in Donetsk each month as a result of shelling attributed to Ukrainian forces.

Russia says its troops reach Ukraine's Dnipropetrovsk region
Russian Defense Ministry said on Sunday that Russian forces reached Ukraine's Dnipropetrovsk region and continued their advance there. It also said that Russian troops captured the village of Zoria in Ukraine's Donetsk region.
