Qatar getting ready to host MWC25 Doha
Tribune News Network Doha Under the patronage of Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs His Excellency Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al Thani, the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology (MCIT), continues its preparations to host the inaugural edition of MWC Doha on November 25 and 26, 2025 at the Doha Exhibition and Convention Center (DECC). The event is organised by the GSMA, the global organisation unifying the mobile ecosystem, in partnership with MCIT. This marks the first time the globally renowned MWC series will be held in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region, positioning Doha as a strategic hub for global dialogue on digital transformation. MWC25 Doha is expected to attract international participants from around 60 countries, including 40 percent director level as well as senior executives, technology leaders, investors, policymakers, and innovators. The event will feature cutting-edge exhibitions, dynamic networking spaces, and high-level panels led by hundreds of global speakers. The dedicated GSMA Ministerial Programme brings together regional and international policymakers to shape the future of the digital ecosystem in the MENA region. The programme will feature policy-focused sessions, closed-door meetings, and curated networking opportunities—fostering dialogue and strategic alignment between governments, industry leaders, and the global development community. 5G and AI to power $2 trillion growth in China GDP by 2030: GSMA
The mobile industry is expected to contribute a massive $2 trillion to China's economy by 2030, according to a new report from the GSMA. This would be around 8.3 per cent of the country's GDP. The findings were shared at the GSMA's Post MWC Sharing Event in Beijing, following the MWC25 Barcelona and ahead of MWC25 Shanghai, which will take place in June. The report, titled Mobile Economy China 2025, says 5G technology will drive most of this growth, especially in the manufacturing sector, which is expected to account for 40 per cent of the 2024, mobile technologies and services contributed $1.2 trillion to China's economy, about 6.2 per cent of the GDP. The GSMA predicts this number will grow significantly by 2030, as more industries adopt mobile-enabled solutions. Chinese telecom operators are also moving beyond consumer services and offering AI-powered enterprise solutions based on 5G Standalone and 5G Advanced the media briefing, GSMA director general Vivek Badrinath said, 'China continues to show how advanced 5G services, mobile innovation, AI and digital services can have real economic impact. 5G already accounts for more than half of mobile connections in China and is the cornerstone for the mobile industry's trillion-dollar contribution to China's GDP today.' He also highlighted how AI is becoming central to operations across sectors. 'With AI integration, Chinese operators are putting AI at the heart of intelligent solutions across industries. I am excited to be here and witness first-hand how these technologies are opening new possibilities, reshaping businesses, and making lives better,' he report notes a rise in mobile internet usage across China. The number of mobile internet users is projected to grow from 1.17 billion in 2024 to 1.22 billion by 2030, with overall penetration rising from 80 per cent to 84 per cent. Meanwhile, mobile data consumption is expected to nearly quadruple by 2030, reaching almost 70GB per connection per Shanghai, set for 18-20 June, will focus on key themes like 5G, AI, APIs and connected industries. The event will include conferences, keynote talks, and the return of startup platform 4YFN, aimed at driving tech innovation and GSMA Policy Leaders Forum will also be hosted for the first time in Shanghai. It will bring together global policymakers and industry leaders to discuss international policies and how they affect the future of mobile tech.
