Coretek expands AI and cloud with Total Solutions acquisition
Coretek, a Microsoft Azure cloud provider, has acquired Detroit-based Total Solutions in a move to broaden its scope in artificial intelligence (AI), data, and Microsoft Cloud services. The financial terms of the deal were not disclosed. Through the acquisition, Coretek expects to enhance its national presence in the US and strengthen its delivery of Microsoft Cloud and digital AI transformation solutions. Total Solutions is said to have expertise in AI, data, and Power Platform solutions. Its integration with Coretek's existing capabilities in AI enablement, security, and cloud services will result in an expanded portfolio of Microsoft-focused solutions available to clients. The acquisition allows Coretek to increase its team of Microsoft-certified experts in AI, data, and Power Platform. This move enhances the firm's application modernisation and development offerings. Meanwhile, Total Solutions gains access to Coretek's suite of services, including enterprise AI frameworks and managed security operations. Coretek CEO Ron Lisch said: "As demand for secure AI adoption and intelligent data platforms continues to surge, Coretek is investing in the talent and tools that help organisations turn complexity into clarity. "Total Solutions has built a respected, customer-focused business, targeted for AI-based solutions, and we're thrilled to welcome their team as we scale our impact across multiple industries." Coretek operates as a Microsoft partner, supporting organisations in adopting cloud, data, and AI solutions for business transformation. With its expertise in security and cloud architecture, Coretek aims to deliver strategic outcomes through managed security and cloud services. Integration between Coretek and Total Solutions will commence immediately under the unified brand of the former. Total Solutions CEO Matthew Fleszar said: "Joining Coretek allows us to bring even more value to our clients. "We're excited to expand the solutions we can offer — from advanced security and data strategy to enterprise-scale AI — while continuing to deliver the personalised service our clients trust." Earlier this year, Coretek launched its AI Managed Services (AIMS) to facilitate secure enterprise AI adoption. This service model addresses challenges like compliance and cybersecurity by leveraging automation and real-time monitoring. The AIMS model seeks to optimise IT performance through AI-driven automation and enhance security with AI-powered threat detection. It also aims to reduce operational costs through intelligent resource allocation and simplify AI integration across various cloud environments. SCORE Marathon hits record 33,000 runners from 48 countries
KUALA LUMPUR: The SCORE Marathon is back with a bang, drawing a record-breaking 33,000 runners from 48 countries for this year's edition in Putrajaya on July 13, marking a 36 per cent surge in participation from last year. The marathon continues its rise as one of the country's largest and most internationally recognised races, now earning the prestigious World Athletics Label Road Race status, placing it among only 301 certified events globally and just three in Malaysia with the honour. What began as a modest health initiative in 2014 with 3,674 runners has become a standout fixture in the regional racing calendar, combining mass participation with elite-level competition and offering qualifying status for the Abbott World Marathon Majors. Backed by the Youth and Sports Ministry and affiliated with the Association of International Marathons and Distance Races (AIMS), the race now stands tall on the world stage. The race will feature four distances — 5km, 10km, 21km and 42km. Patricia Tan, CEO of Score Sports Management, said the surge in participation reflects a decade of dedication and community spirit. "Since our humble beginnings, we've seen steady but exponential growth," she said. "In 2024, we had over 24,000 participants. This year, registrations rocketed to 33,000 — a milestone for us." AIA Vitality, the science-backed health programme by AIA Malaysia, returns as Presenting Sponsor for the fourth straight year. The event also raises the bar on sustainability. Last year's edition recycled 1,150kg of plastic, equal to over 46,000 bottles. For this year, the green drive continues with finisher tees made from bio-based yarns and medals crafted from recycled materials. In the lead-up to race day, the SCORE Marathon Running Clinic Tour will be held in the Klang Valley, helping runners of all levels gear up for July 13.

NU-Q, ACSS launch new scholarly association for Arab Media Studies
Tribune News Network Doha The Institute for Advanced Study in the Global South at Northwestern University in Qatar (IAS NU-Q) and the Arab Council for the Social Sciences (ACSS) have announced the launch of the Society for Humanistic Arab Media Studies (SHAMS), a pioneering trilingual scholarly association dedicated to advancing rigorous, multidisciplinary, and humanistic research on Arab media in their social, cultural, and political-economic contexts. The new joint initiative, supported in part by Carnegie Corporation of New York, is part of Northwestern Qatar's Arab Information and Media Studies (AIMS) project and builds on the Institute's long-standing partnership with ACSS. It aims to strengthen humanistic research and knowledge production in the Arab region and foster rigorous, interdisciplinary research that enriches the intellectual landscape of Arab media studies by drawing on a wide range of disciplines. This includes literature, history, and philosophy, media studies, digital humanities, and postcolonial theory. 'Working with ACSS has shown us just how powerful trilingualism can be in creating connected, overlapping scholarly publics,' said Marwan M Kraidy, dean and CEO of Northwestern Qatar. 'With SHAMS, we are building on that idea; not just to promote research on Arab media, but to bring together a multilingual network of scholars who have deep expertise about the region. What excites me most is that SHAMS will be a space led by scholars, grounded in the Arab world, and committed to critical thinking from the South about their region. It's exactly the kind of initiative we envisioned when we launched the AIMS project—and I can't wait to see how it grows.' The initiative was launched at the ACSS' seventh conference in Beirut, where the Institute led a scholarly discussion under the conference theme 'Devastation, Imaginaries and Knowledge: Regional Junctures and Global Repercussions'. Faculty and scholars from across the Northwestern University in Qatar community showcased a wide range of scholarly works. This includes an analysis of televised representations of youth in Guinea by Clovis Bergère, director of IAS NU-Q , and three film screenings curated by associate professor Rana Kazkaz and IAS NU-QGlobal Postdoctoral Scholar Chafic Najem. As part of the conference programme, Dean Kraidy chaired a panel on Arab digitalities, exploring how digital technologies are shaping everyday life across the Arab region. The panel brought together research on the intersections of media, politics, and lived experience. Panellists included Najem, who presented 'Buying Time: Regimes of Temporal Capital and the Telecommunication Vortex of Lebanon', Leila Tayeb, assistant professor in residence at Northwestern Qatar, who discussed 'Arab Drones: Being (Targeted) and Listening', and Nermin El Sherif, assistant professor in residence at Utrecht University, who examined 'Controlling 'Live': Internet Trends, Media Panics, and the Social Reproduction of a Silent Nation'. In another session, scholars explored how the 'digital' can be conceptualised and studied within an InterAsia framework. Panellists included Harsha Man Maharjan, a Global Postdoctoral Scholar at IAS NU-Q, who proposed a transregional approach to national ID systems in his presentation, 'An InterAsian Digitalities Framework: A Proposal for National Digital Identification Studies'; Ada Petiwala, assistant professor of Media Studies at the American University of Beirut, who examined how digital narratives of tolerance obscure structural violence in 'India-UAE-Israel: Tolerance/Violence in the New Middle East Order'; and Mariam Karim, also a Global Postdoctoral Scholar at IAS NU-Q, who offered a feminist intervention into digital archival practices in her talk, 'Towards a Feminist Definition of 'InterAsian Digitalities': Nazrah Arabyya'.
