Apple's iOS 26 update is set to introduce two major new apps to the iPhone Home Screen: Apple Games, a dedicated hub for gaming, and Preview, a utility for managing PDFs and images. These additions are designed to enhance how users engage with content and documents across iPhone, iPad, and Mac devices. Alongside these apps, iOS 26 will also feature a new Liquid Glass design, which brings a refreshed look to the interface with translucent, fluid elements — marking one of the most significant visual redesigns in recent iOS history. Apple Games app: New Gaming hub Gaming on iPhone is set to become more unified with the launch of the Apple Games app in iOS 26. The app's main interface is built around a Home view, designed to help users quickly access their games, discover new titles, and keep up with in-game events. 'The Home tab keeps you connected to the games you love, recommends new games, and makes jumping back into all your favourites easy. Browse cannot-miss events from your games, and get personalised suggestions for what to play next.' In addition to the Home tab, the app will feature three more sections: Arcade: A space that replicates the Apple Arcade experience found in the App Store. Play Together: A social hub for multiplayer gaming, friend challenges, and Game Centre integration. Library: A comprehensive view of installed games, achievements, and play history. Apple Games: 5 Things To Know About The Gaming App
Its legacy with games might be spotty, but no one can blame Apple for trying, as the company has announced Apple Games, a new app streamlined specifically for all the video games you've ever played on Apple's family of hardware, from iPhones to MacBooks. It's landing on iPhone, iPad and macOS later this year, alongside the debut of Apple's upcoming updated operating system, iOS 26, iPad OS 26 and macOS Tahoe 26. Once released, the Apple Games app will be pre-installed on all new Apple devices, represented by a red icon featuring a rocket ship in flight, and provide a unified library for gamers across the Apple ecosystem. This makes it easier for players to keep tabs on all their games in one convenient place, or to see what's happening in their games across all devices. Source: Tom's Guide It's to be noted that the introduction of the Apple Games app will not render the current Game Center obsolete, and instead serve as an evolution of Game Center, which was previously used to provide social features such as leaderboards to mobile gamers. From competing with friends and family, to keeping tabs on your friends' high score, and discovering the new games that they seem to enjoy playing, here are 5 things you need to know about the Apple Games app: Upon launching the Apple Games app, users will be greeted by its Home tab, which gives a detailed overview of all a user's gaming library at a glance, collating data and allowing players to see all the games they have ever downloaded from the App Store via a Library tab, including downloads across iPhone, iPad and Mac devices. At the top of the page, a rotating carousel will feature editorial collections to help players find new games and recommend the latest Apple titles in store. Below that, a Continue Playing section lists all of the user's downloaded games organised based on which title was last played, allowing easy access to a player's favourite title and allowing them to quickly get back in the game. Even if you're on an iPhone and that copy of Civilization VII is for your iMac, Apple Games will reflect that, and you can tell which of your friends also dabble in global domination. Additional sections of the Home tab feature what games a user's Game Center friends are playing, including Top Played Games based on App Store rankings, and curated recommendations which suggest similar titles to the games a user has played. Users will be able to sort their list of games either alphabetically or based on the most recent title played, with additional filters available that let users list only installed games, those that work with controllers and Apple Arcade titles. Additionally, the Library screen also features an Updates and Events button, where users can keep track of any relevant events for their owned games, like upcoming seasonal content or competitive tournaments, while the Achievements button lists the various Game Center achievements users have racked up over the years across all titles. Within the app's Play Together feature, users can now keep track of their friends' gaming activities by integrating features on the Game Center app, listing out all their friends and created groups in one place to easily enjoy games together. Apart from listing out their shared gaming history, users can also compare game achievements or send game invite links or party codes right from the app without the need for external software, making the process of multiplayer gaming more streamlined. The Games app also features challenges — a new way to spark friendly competition through score-based contests. Developers with Game Center leaderboards can create tailored challenges for smaller groups of friends, transforming solo gameplay into a shared experience with friends, allowing for more ways to rally a group, crown a winner, and have a rematch. Players can invite friends to challenges by selecting their friends or contacts. The Apple Games app will also serve as a hub for Apple's gaming subscription service, Apple Arcade, with a dedicated tab for the feature. Functioning similarly to the Home tab, users will be able to subscribe to the service, discover new titles to play, or launch their Apple Arcade games directly, all from one convenient location. The Apple Games app also adds a handy Game Overlay feature for iPad and Mac, which will show over the top of games when pulled out. This tool allows users to quickly adjust system settings on the fly, like audio and screen brightness, manage Bluetooth devices like controllers, switch on Low Power mode to extend gaming sessions and maximise battery life, or turn on Game Mode for enhanced system performance, all without leaving the full-screen app. Additionally, players will also have access to a social tab within the Game Overlay, giving quick access to the Game Center and their friends list, making it easy to start a chat even while gaming. This feature supports both portrait and landscape modes, with navigation possible using a controller. Apple Unveils iOS 26 with Liquid Glass Design, Built-in AI, and Year-Based Naming
At WWDC 2025, Apple officially launched iOS 26, marking a major shift in its mobile OS — both in look and logic. Abandoning the traditional sequential numbering (iOS 19 was next in line), Apple is now syncing iOS version names with calendar years. But this isn't just a renaming. iOS 26 brings a dramatic visual overhaul with Liquid Glass, a dynamic, translucent UI layer that refracts surroundings and gives icons, widgets, and navigation controls a shimmering, living texture. Dynamic wallpapers with 3D effects and floating tab bars create a more immersive Home and Lock Screen experience. Developers can tap into the new Liquid Glass APIs to bring third-party apps into this visual ecosystem. Apple Intelligence, the company's on-device AI engine, powers smart features across Messages, FaceTime, Phone, and beyond. From live translation and contextual task assistance to enhanced screenshot processing and Genmoji creation (custom emojis made from descriptions), the intelligence now lives natively on your iPhone — without compromising privacy. Other highlights include: Messages: Smart inboxes, AI-generated polls, custom chat backgrounds, and Apple Cash in group chats. Phone app: Unified view, call screening, and hold assist. Apple Music: Lyrics translation & pronunciation, plus AI DJ AutoMix. CarPlay Ultra: Sleeker design with widgets, pinned messages, and compact call overlays. Maps: Visited Places log and encrypted route history. Wallet: Support for reward points, instalments, and real-time travel updates. New Apple Games app: Organizes your games and boosts Arcade access. Accessibility enhancements, AirPods controls, parental features for child accounts, and sharper visuals in Safari and Camera further enhance the user experience. Release Timeline: iOS 26 is available to developers now. Public beta rolls out next month, with general availability in fall 2025 for iPhone 11 and newer. AI features will require iPhone 16, iPhone 15 Pro, or Apple silicon devices (M1+). With iOS 26, Apple isn't just tweaking — it's transforming the iPhone into a smarter, more intuitive, and more personal device.

iOS 26: When can UAE iPhone users expect Apple's latest update? See full features & specs
Attendees watch a presentation during an event on the Apple campus in Cupertino, Calif., Monday, June 9, 2025. (AP Photo/Jeff Chiu) iPhone users across the UAE are in for a treat this fall with the highly anticipated official rollout of Apple 's new operating system, iOS 26. The American tech giant made headlines with the preview of major updates to its iPhone software during the Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) on Monday, June 9, 2025. These changes are designed to "elevate the iPhone experience" with a stunning new design, intelligent features powered by " Apple Intelligence ," and significant improvements to everyday applications, according to Apple. A Glimpse into the Future: Design and Core Enhancements Amidst much fanfare and speculation, Apple unveiled iOS 26, which promises a "gorgeous new design" and "meaningful improvements" to existing features, aiming to make the iPhone "even more helpful." The company stated that user experiences will become "more expressive and personal," and new "Apple Intelligence" capabilities will empower users to "get things done easier than ever." Craig Federighi, Apple's senior vice president of Software Engineering, emphasized the profound impact of the new operating system. He stated, 'iOS 26 shines with the gorgeous new design and meaningful improvements to the features users rely on every day, making iPhone even more helpful.' He further highlighted that these updates will make experiences "more expressive and personal" and that the new "Apple Intelligence" capabilities will enable users to "get things done easier than ever. " A striking new design is at the core of iOS 26, featuring "Liquid Glass." This translucent material will add depth and vitality across controls, app icons, and widgets, creating a visually captivating experience. This visual overhaul extends to the Home Screen and Lock Screen, offering new levels of personalization and expressiveness. For instance, the Lock Screen will dynamically adapt the time display to images, and spatial scenes will bring wallpapers to life with a 3D effect when the iPhone is moved. Key apps like Camera and Photos will also receive streamlined designs, while Safari, Apple Music, News, and Podcasts will see redesigned tab bars for a more immersive viewing experience. Developers will also gain access to these new design elements, allowing for seamless integration into their own applications. Updates have also been made to essential apps like Phone and Messages, which will now help users stay connected while reducing distractions from unwanted calls. iOS 26 will also introduce new features in CarPlay, Apple Music, Maps, Wallet, and Apple Games. This brand-new Apple Games app provides a single, central destination for all games. The Power of "Apple Intelligence": Smarter, More Personal Interactions "Apple Intelligence" is set to revolutionize how users interact with their iPhones, elevating the entire experience. Apple has detailed several groundbreaking features powered by this new capability: Live Translation: This highly anticipated feature will be seamlessly integrated into Messages, FaceTime, and Phone calls. It will enable real-time translation of both text and audio, allowing for effortless communication across different languages. Crucially, Apple emphasizes that this feature will run entirely on the device, ensuring user privacy. Visual Intelligence: Users will gain the ability to interact with content directly on their screen. This means being able to ask questions about images or search for similar items. Apple also states that events seen on the screen will be automatically suggested for calendar additions, streamlining organization. Genmoji and Image Playground: New creative tools will be introduced, allowing users to generate unique emojis and images for more personalized expression. Smarter Shortcuts: "Apple Intelligence" will enable new "intelligent actions" and dedicated features like Writing Tools, making everyday tasks more efficient. Automated Order Tracking: Order details from emails will be automatically summarized, providing users with a unified and convenient view of all their purchases. When Will iOS 26 Reach Your Device? Compatibility and Rollout in UAE Apple has confirmed that developers can begin testing iOS 26 immediately. A public beta is scheduled to become available next month, offering users an early look at the new functionalities. This public beta typically arrives about a month after the first developer beta; in 2024, it was released on July 15, leading tech enthusiasts to anticipate a similar release timeframe in 2025. The full, free software update for iOS 26 is expected to roll out for iPhone 11 and later models this fall as a free download. However, it's vital to note that the advanced "Apple Intelligence" features will require newer devices. These cutting-edge capabilities will be exclusive to all iPhone 16 models, iPhone 15 Pro, iPhone 15 Pro Max, and compatible iPad and Mac models equipped with M1 chips or later. This means that while many iPhone users will receive the general iOS 26 update, the most advanced AI functions will be limited to Apple's latest and most powerful hardware. Furthermore, some older iPhone models, specifically the iPhone XR, XS, and XS Max, will not receive the iOS 26 update. Despite this, Apple has assured users that it will continue to provide software updates, including essential security patches, for older iPhones running iOS 18 for several more years, ensuring continued support and security even if they don't receive the very latest OS. Eco-system Wide Enhancements: Beyond the iPhone The enhancements brought by iOS 26 extend beyond the iPhone, enriching various Apple services and products: CarPlay: Apple stated that CarPlay will gain a new compact view for calls, Tapbacks, and pinned conversations in Messages, along with the integration of widgets and Live Activities for safer driving. Apple Music: New features will include Lyrics Translation, Lyrics Pronunciation, and AutoMix for seamless song transitions. Apple Maps: A "Visited Places" feature will be introduced to help users remember locations, and intelligent routing based on daily commutes will be provided. Apple Wallet: Users will see options for installment payments, refreshed boarding passes with Live Activities, and improved integration with Maps and and the Find My app. Apple Games: A brand-new app will be provided, serving as a central hub for all games, including Apple Arcade. AirPods: New features for studio-quality audio recording and camera remote control will be added. Parental Controls: Enhanced tools will be included for creating child accounts, managing communication limits, and approving app downloads. Safari: Privacy will be significantly boosted with advanced fingerprinting protection. Accessibility: New features like Accessibility Reader and Braille Access will be introduced, alongside improvements to existing accessibility features. With iOS 26, Apple aims to deliver a more personal, intelligent, and interconnected experience across its ecosystem, setting the stage for the next generation of mobile technology.
