Morocco, Czechia Partner to Deploy Water-from-Air Technology in Kingdom
Morocco and the Czech Republic formalized a strategic agreement to support the deployment of atmospheric water generation (AWG) technology in the Kingdom on Tuesday in Rabat. The agreement was signed by the Moroccan Institute for Research in Solar Energy and New Energies (IRESEN) and the Embassy of the Czech Republic to Morocco, acting on behalf of the Czech Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Czech Republic through its CzechAid development cooperation program, according to a press release from IRESEN. It includes the delivery and implementation of two pilot units by the Czech company CZECHOSLOVAK EXPORT a.s., the export agency and prime integrator of one of Europe's leading industrial holdings Czechoslovak Group (CSG), selected as the executing partner of the project. The initiative marks a concrete milestone in Moroccan–Czech bilateral cooperation and reflects a shared commitment to addressing climate-related challenges through sustainable technological innovation, says the same source. Under the title "Water from Air Equipment for Morocco," the project will deploy a low carbon atmospheric water generation (AWG) system designed to produce potable water directly from humidity in the air, offering a modular, decentralized, clean and resilient solution to water scarcity. The system selected for the project is the patent-protected and award-winning Emergency Water from Air (EWA) portable solution developed by the University Center for Energy Efficient Buildings (UCEEB) of the Czech Technical University in Prague (CTU) and produced by the Czech manufacturer KARBOX s.r.o., also a CSG member firm. The agreement is financed through a grant provided by the Czech Ministry of Foreign Affairs via CzechAid. It aims to deliver two pilot demonstrators to be tested under Morocco's climatic conditions in order to assess its potential for broader deployment in remote and arid zones, in the country and the region. This initiative directly contributes to the growing convergence between water security, innovative energy solutions, and both climate mitigation and adaptation, a nexus that lies at the heart of Morocco's strategic priorities as outlined in its New Development Model. By integrating cutting-edge atmospheric water generation into Morocco's energy, industrial, and research ecosystems, the project serves as a pilot for future solutions that are not only technologically autonomous, but also environmentally resilient and socially inclusive. In fact, large-scale deployment of such solutions may offer alternative opportunities to develop sustainable economic activities, such as agriculture, services, and industry, in remote areas with no access to seawater desalination. This, in turn, can strengthen resilience and reinforce strategic sovereignty across the African region. In addition to its operational objectives, the project opens avenues for technology transfer, capacity building, and scientific collaboration between Moroccan and Czech public and private institutions. It also reflects the potential for future local industrial integration of clean technologies within Morocco's green industrial ecosystem. IRESEN Director General Samir Rachidi said that this partnership embodies a shared vision between Morocco and the Czech Republic to make science and innovation true levers for inclusive and sustainable development for our respective citizens. For his part, Ladislav Škeřík, Ambassador of the Czech Republic to the Kingdom of Morocco expressed his pride in "supporting this high-impact project, which brings together Czech innovation and Moroccan expertise in a way that directly serves the people and the planet." The installation of the pilot units is scheduled for the fourth quarter of 2025, followed by a two-year phase of technical evaluation, data analysis, and market exploration. MAP: 02 July 2025

30kg of sea cucumbers seized in Nagai
Trichy: The Coastal Security Group seized 30kg of processed sea cucumbers from an illegal unit near Nagapattinam on Wednesday. Sources said the CSG received information that a group is processing sea cucumbers near the CSI Cemetery near Keechankuppam. A marine police team led by sub-inspector K Ananthavadivel searched the area and found the processed sea cucumbers. However, the culprits involved in the crime fled the spot before police came there. The team retrieved the echinoderms and handed them over the forest department as per the direction of ADSP K Sivasankar. Forest ranger (in-charge) A Joseph Daniel registered a case, and further investigation is on. On March 22, a CSG team retrieved around 600kg of sea cucumbers from the same place, but no arrest has been made in the case as well. Sea cucumber species are considered 'endangered' and 'vulnerable' under the Red List of the International Union for Conservation of Nature. They are protected under Schedule I of the Wildlife Protection Act, 1972. Some individuals process and smuggle them to foreign countries for alleged medicinal purposes.

Tamizhans banish last year's horror in style
Last year, IDream Tiruppur Tamizhans posted 200 in Qualifier 1 against Lyca Kovai Kings but got blown away by B. Sai Sudarshan's unbeaten century here at the NPR College ground. On Tuesday, R. Sai Kishore's men ensured history would not repeat as they produced a clinical all-round performance and thrashed Chepauk Super Gillies by 79 runs to storm into the TNPL-9 summit clash. Put in to bat, Tamizhans posted a formidable 202 for five thanks to V.P. Amith Sathvik's 57 (40b, 6x4, 2x6) at the top and U. Sasidev's 57 (26b, 6x4, 3x6) towards the end. Amith and opening partner, Tushar Raheja, gave yet another blazing start, adding 56 off 29 balls. Tushar took Abhishek Tanwar to the cleaners, walking down and lofting the pacer for three sixes. Amith was more classical, flicking and punching the pacers to the fence. CSG briefly fought back when Tamizhans slumped to 126 for four, losing three wickets for five runs. However, Sasidev quickly wrested back the momentum. In the 18th over, the left-hander smashed Tanwar for two maximums and a four. In the next, he plundered 20 off Vijay Shankar, which included a breathtaking sliced six over third man as 70 came in the last five. In reply, the CSG openers couldn't get going against a disciplined Tamizhans attack. Skipper B. Aparajith infused some momentum, hitting four maximums. But the fiery A. Esakkimuthu (three for 26) bowled his side back into the game, dismissing Aparajith first and then yorking N. Jagadeesan. And when M. Mathivanan (three for 27) had Vijay Shankar caught in the deep, it was curtains for the four-time champion, as it was handed its first defeat of the season. The scores: IDream Tiruppur Tamizhans 202/5 in 20 overs (V.P. Amith Sathvik 57, R. Sai Kishore 33, U. Sasidev 57, Lokesh Raj 2/25) bt Chepauk Super Gillies 123 in 16.1 overs (B. Aparajith 30, Sai Kishore 2/9, Esakkimuthu 3/26, Mathivanan 3/27). Toss: CSG.

Super Gillies finish league stage on a perfect note
The Chepauk Super Gillies juggernaut continued to steamroll opponents and made it a perfect seven in the league stage of TNPL-9, beating Siechem Madurai Panthers by six wickets (DLS method) in its final group encounter at the NPR College Ground here on Saturday. The victory meant CSG became the second team, after Albert Tuti Patriots in 2017, to win all its league matches in the competition. Chasing 157, every Super Gillies top-order batter stroked valuable cameos to keep the asking rate in check. The four-time champion was cruising at 71 for three in 9.2 overs when the players walked off due to insect infestation. Once play resumed, Super Gillies's revised target was 114 in 14 overs. Vijay Shankar and N. Jagadeesan quickly hit a few huge sixes and closed out the game with seven balls to spare. The victory, though, was set up by CSG's bowlers Vijay Shankar (three for 23) and M. Silambarasan (two for 19), whose miserly spells restricted the Madurai outfit to just 156 for seven after the match was delayed by an hour due to rain. Skipper N.S. Chaturved and M.A. Atheeq Ur Rahman gave the Panthers a great platform, taking their side to 60 for two in the PowerPlay. Game-changer A late surge from Ashwin and Gurjapneet took Panthers past 150, but it was not enough, as the 2018 champion crashed out of the tournament following its fifth defeat of the season. The scores: Siechem Madurai Panthers 156/7 in 20 overs (N.S. Chaturved 31, M.A. Atheeq Ur Rahman 41, M. Ashwin 38, Vijay Shankar 3/23, M. Silambarasan 2/19) lost to Chepauk Super Gillies 114/4 in 12.5 overs (M. Ayush 2/20). CSG won by six wickets on DLS method.
