Capcom goes for cheap tricks with thirsty Street Fighter 6 swimsuits
Cammy, Chun-Li, Luke, and more are set to receive swimsuit outfits in a new update for Street Fighter 6, and very little is left to the imagination. Some fighting game series, like Dead Or Alive, are renowned for their overtly sexual depictions of female characters, and some new outfits in Street Fighter 6 are approaching the same territory. As revealed in the Capcom Spotlight showcase, Sagat is the next DLC character heading to Street Fighter 6, on August 5, 2025. Alongside the new character, Capcom is set to finally roll out some new outfits for some of the other characters, over a year and a half after Outfit 3's launch in December 2023. While many fans have been disappointed by the lack of alternate outfits in Street Fighter 6, when compared to previous entries, Capcom has slammed the bikini panic button in what feels like a desperate cash grab to distract from the lengthy wait. As revealed in the showcase, Outfit 4 for characters Cammy, Luke, Chun-Li, Manon, Jamie, Kimberly, and A.K.I. are all swimsuits. As pointed out by Street Fighter director and designer Takayuki Nakayama on X, the Cammy and Chun-Li swimsuits closely resemble their appearance in artwork produced for the original Street Fighter 2. While we might like to think things have progressed since 1991, when Street Fighter 2 first came out, some of the outfits here are very revealing, especially when you compare the female costumes with the ones for Luke and Jamie. Other characters on the Street Fighter 6 roster are set to receive their fourth costumes at a later date, although it's unclear if they'll also be swimwear. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Curtis '50 Cent' Jackson is set to play Balrog, who later tweeted about the news on X. Other reported cast members include Jason Momoa as Blanka, Noah Centineo as Ken, Orville Peck as Vega, Callina Liang as Chun-Li, Andrew Schulz as Dan Hibiki, Andrew Koji as Ryu, and WWE star Joe Joe Anoa'i, aka Roman Reign, as Akuma. Capcom show what Resident Evil Requiem was going to be before they changed it
Capcom has explained how Resident Evil Requiem started life as an online open world game, and it's chilling to think about. Before Resident Evil Requiem was officially revealed at Summer Game Fest, rumours claimed it would be an open world game starring Leon S. Kennedy. Capcom has since explained why Leon isn't the protagonist, with game director Koshi Nakanishi highlighting how the character is 'actually quite a bad match for horror' because he's not the kind of person who would 'jump at something like a bucket falling'. As such, Resident Evil Requiem features a new 'introverted' lead, in FBI analyst Grace Ashcroft. Following the Capcom Spotlight showcase, the studio has now confirmed it did experiment with an online, open world for Resident Evil Requiem, but these plans were dropped when it realised it 'wasn't what fans wanted'. Speaking in an extended developer diary, which is available to registered members on Capcom's website, Nakanishi shared a brief, blurry glimpse at the early online experiments for Resident Evil Requiem. 'You might have heard some of the rumours, things like an online Resident Evil or an open world Resident Evil, which we spent some time experimenting with,' he said. 'But in the end, although we had some interesting concepts, we realised that it wasn't what fans wanted to see or play. So we went back to the drawing board and created what led to Resident Evil Requiem.' It's easy to imagine how negative the reaction to an online Resident Evil game would be, because there's already been so many bad examples. Resident Evil Re:Verse was Capcom's last (terrible) attempt to make an online multiplayer title in the series, which is set to be shut down on June 29, after being released as a freebie with Resident Evil Village. Before that, there's been asymmetrical multiplayer jaunts in Resident Evil: Resistance, and co-op games like Operation Raccoon City and Resident Evil Outbreak. Interestingly, the protagonist in Resident Evil Requiem, Grace Ashcroft, is the daughter of investigative reporter Alyssa Ashcroft – a character from Resident Evil Outbreak. To reinforce the point, Capcom highlighted that Resident Evil Requiem is a 'single-player offline game', and presumably no longer open world, although it didn't exactly specify the latter. All of this seemingly corroborates rumours last month, from series insider Dusk Golem, who claimed development on Resident Evil Requiem began in 2017 with Leon S. Kennedy and Jill Valentine as the protagonists. He said it was originally 'trying to be the opposite' of Resident Evil 7, as a 'big open world multiplayer game', but it got a 'heavy reboot' in 2021 when Resident Evil Village was released. Later in the video on Capcom's website, Nakanishi said the sequel takes the emphasis on fear seen in Resident Evil 7 a 'step further', describing the gameplay as 'addictive fear'. More Trending 'For us, an 'addictive fear' means even though you might be scared, you just can't stop playing,' he added. 'You want to see what's next. You die, but wonder, 'What if I tried this? Next time I'll do it differently'. And when you overcome that fear, the sense of accomplishment is huge. 'You want to keep going – as it's almost addictive. That's the kind of gameplay experience that we are aiming for in Resident Evil Requiem.' The upcoming sequel follows Grace as she investigates a series of deaths in Raccoon City, 30 years after it was bombed in Resident Evil 3. It's set to feature both a first and third person perspective, an option only added via DLC for Resident Evil Village. 50 Cent Joins "Street Fighter" Movie
Yara Sameh Curtis '50 Cent' Jackson is the latest addition to the eclectic cast of "Street Fighter", Legendary Entertainment's feature adaptation of the classic Capcom video game. The call sheet ranges from A-lister Jason Momoa as Blanka to heartthrob Noah Centineo as Ken to country singer Orville Peck as Vega and Andrew Schulz as Dan Hibiki. Joe Anoa'i, aka WWE superstar Roman Reign, and martial artist-actor Andrew Koji (Warrior) are on the roll call as battler Akuma and lead character Ryu, respectively. Callina Liang (Presence) is playing Chun-Li. The rapper turned actor and entrepreneur will play Balrog, a disgraced boxer who is also the bodyguard of the villain. Sources say Jackson is deep into training for the part and will be doing his stunts for the adaptation. Kitao Sakurai (The Eric Andre Show) is directing the feature, which begins production in August in Australia. Legendary is co-developing and co-producing alongside Capcom. While the film's plot remains under wraps, Street Fighter, launched in 1987, is a series of fighting games revolving around intense one-on-one battles between martial artists. The games are often centered around a global fighting tournament organized by M. Bison, the leader of the evil organization Shadaloo. Street Fighter has sold over 55 million units worldwide since its launch, making it one of the most well-known and highest-grossing video game franchises of all time. The Grammy-winning Jackson, who has sold over 30 million albums, is known in Hollywood circles for his TV empire fueled by the various Power series for Starz. His G-Unit Film & Television also produced ABC's For Life and recently completed production on season four of "Black Mafia" Family for Starz, along with season two of the Black Mafia Family docuseries. Capcom Drops First 'Resident Evil Requiem' Gameplay, Explains Why Leon Isn't The Focus
Capcom has revealed the first gameplay tease for its highly anticipated survival horror sequel, Resident Evil Requiem , showing off both first and third-person gameplay and highlighting its new protagonist, FBI Agent Grace Ashcroft. Shown via the Capcom Spotlight event, brief snippets of the upcoming title were shown, including clips of Ashcroft slowly moving through dimly lit corridors with a lighter in hand, stalked by a giant humanoid creature that's pure nightmare fuel. On first look, the game does give off similar vibes to 2017's Resident Evil 7: Biohazard, with its tight, claustrophobic interiors, although this might just be a specific section of the game, and environments might open up as the game progresses, similar to 2021's Resident Evil Village . In the trailer, game director Koshi Nakanishi explains the focus on a new protagonist this time around, with the game centred on a new type of character for the series, the introverted and jumpy FBI intelligence analyst Ashcroft. 'We wanted someone that experiences horror from the same perspective as the player,' Nakanishi explained, adding that even though the goal was to allow players to witness Ashcroft overcome her fears over the course of the story, she's not entirely helpless either, being trained with firearms and possessing 'calm deductive reasoning'. Gameplay for both the titles' first and third-person perspectives were also shown, with the developers explaining how the former makes for 'tense, realistic gameplay', while the latter is 'great for people who enjoy action-heavy gameplay', offering more freedom for players to experience the title in their own way. Alas, the trailer didn't feature the big Leon Kennedy reveal fans were expecting, with the developers instead noting why the franchise veteran was actually a 'bad match for horror'. 'We always thought about making Leon the protagonist,' Nakanishi explained, 'but making a horror game based around him is difficult. He wouldn't jump at a bucket falling. No one wants to see Leon scared by every little thing.' Despite the statement, Leon's appearance in the game was not ruled out entirely, adding to fan speculation that he might be the game's unannounced second protagonist, and would show up in the later portions of the game, similar to Resident Evil Village 's closing section with Chris Redfield. This follows details spotted in the game's reveal trailer hinting at Leon's presence, including the character's truck parked outside the ruins of the Raccoon City Police Department, the character's voice actor Nick Apostolides' online resume, and comments by Resident Evil leaker Dusk Golem. In any case, it's still early to say for sure, with more details surrounding Resident Evil Requiem's plot and characters bound to come as the game approaches its 27 February 2026 release for the PS5, Xbox Series X|S and PC. 'Street Fighter 6' Gets Original Final Boss Sagat As Next DLC Character; Adds Skimpy Swimsuits
Capcom's 2023 fighting game Street Fighter 6 has entered year 3 of its post-launch content line-up, with the next character heading to its roster being Sagat, the final boss of the original arcade game, alongside swimwear outfits for some of its current fighters. Announced during the Capcom Showcase, Sagat will make his grand return on 5 August 2025, sporting a fresh new fur coat, alongside a return of his tiger-based powers. In addition, the Sagat Arrives! Fighting Pass will mark his imminent arrival when it launches on 4 July, bringing his wanderer avatar gear cosmetic pack alongside increasing the amount of content in the Fighting Pass that can be used in Fighting Ground, including new challenger screens, EX Colours, character titles and music. Fans were also treated to the long-anticipated reveal of the game's Outfit 4 content, which brings a set of skimpy swimwear cosmetics to seven characters: Cammy, Luke, Chun-Li, Manon, Jamie, Kimberly, and A.K.I. These outfits will release alongside the Sagat update, with the team continuing to work on swimwear costumes for the rest of the game's roster. Sagat was also announced alongside the remaining three DLC characters arriving in year 3, including Crimson Viper, Alex and Ingrid, marking the return of more franchise alumni to the latest instalment. It looks like Street Fighter fans are in for a busy few years, as apart from receiving these game updates, the live-action Street Fighter movie has also been steadily building up its roster of characters, with rapper 50 Cent joining the cast as boxer Balrog alongside country singer Orville Peck as Vega.
