Mohammed Siraj's fiery send-off front and centre as Day 3 tensions spill over into Day 4 morning

Day 3 of the third Test between India and England at Lord's ended with such drama that it would've been a bit of a surprise if it had no effect on at least the early proceedings of the fourth day. And that was pretty much the case on Sunday and, quite expectantly, it is symbolised by a wicket celebration by Mohammed Siraj. Siraj was among the players who got in the face of Zak Crawley in the one over that India managed to bowl at the end of the third day, thanks largely to the latter's delaying tactics. Both Crawley and opening partner Ben Duckett could be seen discussing the events of that over with the Indian players walking back to the pavillion after Stumps were called and the latter couldn't survive long in the morning session on Sunday. The wicket came in the sixth over of the innings, which was Siraj's third and the fifth of the day. The fifth ball of the over was dug in back of a length just outside off stump at around 140kph, Duckett tried to pull but was cramped up. The ball popped straight into the hands of Jasprit Bumrah at mid-on. Siraj proceeded to roar right in Duckett's face, his eyes bulging out of their sockets and veins popping. There was even a light shoulder contact. Duckett didn't seem to really look at the bowler at any point while Siraj did the opposite for him. The Indian pacer even got a little talking-to from the umpires after the whole excercise. You can't escape the DSP! 🚨 One shot too many & #BenDuckett has to make his way back as #MohammedSiraj provides an early breakthrough!#ENGvIND 👉 3rd TEST, DAY 4 | LIVE NOW on JioHotstar 👉 — Star Sports (@StarSportsIndia) July 13, 2025 England had about six minutes to play and it seemed India might get in two overs at them. But Zak Crawley wasn't in an obliging mood, and did what batsmen generally tend to do in those circumstances – try wasting as much time legally as possible. He went gardening down the track, he waved off spectators behind Bumrah, twice pulling out before the third ball. Shubman Gill walked up from the slip at that point to say something, with Ben Duckett intervening. Gill and Duckett had a short chat. Then before the fifth ball, Crawley went down the pitch for some bat-tapping. More words flew from the slips. Crawley then got hit on his fingers off the fifth ball when a nipbacker crashed into him. He immediately wrung his hands in pain and called for physio. The Indians swarmed all around the batsmen. Nearly all the close-in fielders started clapping sarcastically. Suddenly, Gill ran towards Crawley, said something, pointing his right index finger at the opener. And Crawley too returned the gesture and the verbals. Duckett rushed in and both he and Gill would stand very close to each other for a chat. Rahul ran across to get close to them, and the two parted. And as Crawley turned around and walked towards the hutch after the final ball, where he was beaten, Duckett would exchange a few words with the Indians, and this time a few smiles broke out. Crawley stood waiting half-way to the pavilion for his partner, and Siraj and he would exchange a few more words.

Police add 6 kg ganja to seized 230-kg bags; court acquits suspects

Chennai: While acquittals in ganja peddling cases due to lack of evidence are not uncommon, a Chennai narcotics court recently acquitted four individuals accused of smuggling 230 kg of ganja because the police submitted six kg more of the drug in court than what was originally seized. The quantity variation found is very high, creating a reasonable suspicion about the seized property itself. The actual quantity is 230 kg, but it was 236.58 kg during the proceedings under Section 52A (during the destruction of the seized drug in the presence of a magistrate) of the NDPS Act, special judge for NDPS cases M Rajalakshmi said. In addition to that, according to the case of the prosecution, two samples were taken from all five bags, each containing 50 grams. Out of the two samples taken from five bags, one sample from each pair was sent for analysis to the forensic science laboratory, the court said. The court further pointed out that there was a delay of six days in sending the contraband recovered from the accused to the court, and meanwhile, the properties were kept in the police station. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Use an AI Writing Tool That Actually Understands Your Voice Grammarly Install Now Undo "Even though the delay of six days is not so enormous, coupled with the evidence given by PW6 (DSP) that the seized contraband was kept in the police station without a seal and the huge variation in the quantity of samples and the bulk quantity recovered from the accused create a serious doubt whether the property produced before this court was actually recovered from the accused," the court wondered. Since the prosecution did not succeed in proving the possession of contraband by all accused, nothing can be presumed by the court under the NDPS Act, the court said and acquitted all four accused.

Firing at Moga doctor: Terrorist Lakhbir Landa nominated as accused, one more held: police

Designated terrorist Lakhbir Landa, alias Landa Harike, a key operative of the banned terror outfit Babbar Khalsa International (BKI), has been nominated as an accused in the daylight firing at Dr Anil Kamboj on July 4, Moga police said Thursday. Landa is believed to be hiding in Canada. Dr Kamboj was in 'Harbans Nursing Home' in Kot Ise Khan town of Moga district when two assailants entered his room posing as patients, and opened fire at him. Dr Kamboj continues to be critical and on ventilator support at a private hospital. He had been receiving extortion and threat calls from Landa since 2022, his son Dr Chahat Kamboj said. Dharamkot DSP Ramandeep Singh said, 'Landa has been nominated as an accused in the FIR registered at the Kot Ise Khan police station for attempt to murder.' 'Another associate of Landa, identified as Harmeet Singh, alias Meetu, 25, of Talwandi Shobha Singh village in Tarn Taran district, has been arrested in the case for allegedly supplying weapons to Landa's shooters, who would fire at targets selected by him.' The DSP said at a press conference. Earlier, police had arrested three accused — Khushpreet Singh, alias Khush, Gurlal Singh, alias Gola, and Gurmandeep Singh, all hailing from Tarn Taran district — in the case after an encounter, in which the trio suffered injuries. One Pawandeep Kaur from Fatehgarh Sahib was also arrested for allegedly sheltering Gurmandeep, one of the shooters. An FIR was also registered in December 2022 against Landa for alleged extortion calls to Dr Kamboj and other influential people in the town. Landa was allegedly demanding Rs 1 crore from the doctor, said the family. Landa's three aides held in separate case In a separate case registered earlier, three other associates of Landa, including his maternal uncle, were arrested, the DSP said. Police identified them as Baljinder Singh of Kulla Road, Patti, Gaganpreet Singh of Datewala and Lovepreet Singh of Khosa Randhir village. The DSP said, 'Landa's maternal uncle Baljinder Singh used to handle money which Landa would extort from victims. Further probe was on.' Moga police conducted a flag march in Kot Ise Khan town on Thursday. Led by SP Sandeep Singh, police told people that no one would be allowed to disturb law and order in the district. They further appealed to the public to report to the police immediately if they receive any threats.

Atchanna terms Jagan's tours deliberate strategy to disrupt peace

Vijayawada: Agriculture minister K Atchannaidu described YSRCP chief Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy's ongoing tours as orchestrated attempts to disrupt peace rather than genuine efforts to address farmers' issues. Speaking to the media after a Cabinet meeting alongside ministers Nadendla Manohar and Anagani Satya Prasad on Wednesday, Atchannaidu dismissed the tours as 'staged like movie sets.' Addressing concerns of Totapuri mango farmers, the minister explained that a bumper harvest of 7 lakh metric tonnes this year, combined with leftover pulp stock, caused prices to plummet. The government intervened, negotiating with pulp industries to buy mangoes at Rs 8 per kg, supplemented by Rs 4 per kg in direct aid. He noted that even YSRCP leaders from Prakasam district praised the move. Atchannaidu challenged Jagan to ensure his associate, Peddireddy Ramachandra Reddy, who owns pulp factories, purchases mangoes at Rs 12 per kg. The minister accused YSRCP of a deliberate plot involving tractors spilling mangoes on roads. He claimed that Prakash Reddy, YSRCP secretary from Chittoor with a 25-acre mango orchard, sold his produce at Rs 12 per kg but orchestrated the dumping of five tractor loads of mangoes from his farm on a service road in Thimbojipalem village as Jagan's convoy approached. Atchannaidu alleged the convoy 'intentionally drove over the mangoes,' calling it unbelievable that a former chief minister would engage in such irresponsible acts for political gain. Atchannaidu also condemned the rude behavior of YSRCP leaders and cadre toward police, citing an incident where former YSRCP MLAs allegedly instructed workers to 'break the hands' of a DSP managing the crowd. He saod that drones were used during Jagan's visit due to fears of disturbances, which exposed the mango-spilling incident. The minister debunked YSRCP's false propaganda of a police lathi-charge, stating that an injury to a YSRCP worker who fell during the rally was being misrepresented. Atchannaidu reiterated the government's commitment to farmers' welfare, accusing YSRCP of exploiting their plight for political mileage. He urged the opposition to engage constructively rather than resorting to disruptive tactics.
