2026 Ford Explorer Tremor SUV gets new off-road chops, more style
The 2026 Ford Explorer's off-road credibility is in for a boost when the midsize SUV adds a model with the automaker's popular Tremor badge later this year. The Explorer Tremor adds gear, including three steel skid plates, increased ground clearance and a Torsen rear differential. Ford discontinued the Timberline after the 2024 model year. The Tremor is an outdoorsy model mirroring the performance-oriented ST in the Explorer lineup. ST prices start at $56,770. It's not unreasonable to expect the Tremor in the same neighborhood. Tremors will be available with either a 2.3L four-cylinder or 3.0L V6 engine. The only performance figures Ford has revealed is 400 hp from the twin-turbo V6. Towing capacity is 5,000 pounds. A 14-speaker B&O audio system will be available. The Explorer is the second Ford SUV to get a Tremor model, following the Expedition. There are also Tremor models of Ford's pickups. What makes the Explorer Tremor special? The Explorer Tremor's front corners were carved out so the front wheels can tackle big rocks without damaging the fascia. Selecting a new off-road mode modifies throttle response, shift points, traction control, power distribution, 360-degree trail view and an inclinometer. Other unique Tremor touches include: The Tremor will be the first vehicle with the 1.5 version of Ford's Blue Cruise hands-free driving system, which adds fully automatic lane changes to its other features. It shares the upgrades the 2025 Explorer received, including Google navigation, apps and music. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto remain standard equipment. The Ford Explorer Finally Has a Real Off-Road Trim
Ford continues to expand its lineup of Tremor-branded vehicles. The latest to get the treatment is the Explorer , joining the Maverick , Expedition , and F-150 in the Blue Oval's garage. The new Explorer Tremor goes on sale for the 2026 model year; however, Ford doesn't say when the rugged SUV will reach showrooms. The Explorer Tremor features an off-road-tuned suspension that adds an extra inch of height, with tuned springs and sway bars, while improving the departure and approach angles. Eighteen-inch tires with Bridgestone Dueler all-terrain tires sit at the corners, while auxiliary lights, orange tow hooks, and other orange accents—a color Ford calls 'electric spice'—differentiate this Explorer from the others. Photo by: Ford 2026 Explorer Tremor Powertrain Options Under the hood is Ford's 3.0-liter EcoBoost V-6 engine, the same one powering the Explorer ST. It produces 400 horsepower and 415 pound-feet of torque, but Ford will also offer customers the 300-hp, 2.3-liter four-cylinder as an option. All-wheel drive and a Toresen limited-slip differential are standard, along with some underbody protection. Inside, the new Tremor includes the Ford Digital Experience and CoPilot 360 2.0 Assist. Optional features include massaging front seats, a 14-speaker B&O sound system, and BlueCruise 1.5. Ford Explorer Tremor Pricing Ford hasn't released 2026 Explorer Tremor pricing just yet. That information will likely arrive closer to its on-sale date, but we can estimate a price based on the current lineup. Spied! Ford Explorer Tremor Seen Undisguised Before Its Real Reveal
The 2026 is getting an off-road-ready Tremor trim, and our spy photographer has caught undisguised models out in public. The Tremor, which replaces the pre-facelifted Explorer's Timberline model, will be officially revealed later this year. While it hasn't divulged any actual details, but we expect pricing to start at around $55K. Last month, Ford released a teaser image that all but confirmed the Explorer mid-size SUV is getting the brand's off-road Tremor treatment. Now, we have our first glimpse of the 2026 Ford Explorer Tremor, and it's completely undisguised ahead of its official reveal, which should happen sometime later this year. Ford's Tremor lineup is essentially a step below its hardcore Raptor models. The Tremor package is currently available on the Maverick compact pickup, full-size Expedition, F-150, and Super Duty trucks. Those examples give us an idea of the type of equipment we can expect the Tremorized Explorer to have, at least what we can't confirm with our own two eyes. Starting with what we can see, the Tremor-equipped Explorer has an orange horizontal element spanning its unique grille mesh. Below it are a pair of orange-painted recovery hooks, and the SUV's chin appears to be protected by a bash plate. Keeping with the theme of orange accents, the Explorer Tremor's 18-inch wheels have a colored pocket that helps identify the valve stem's location. The models we spied also wore Bridgestone Dueler Revo 3 all-terrain tires, sized 265/65R-18, so they stand 31.6 inches tall—the same as its predecessor. Based on the Expedition Tremor, its Explorer counterpart should have steel skid plates underneath, a higher ride height, and retuned suspension and steering. Their interiors should be similar too, with the off-road Expedition featuring orange contrast stitching and "Tremor" script in the seatbacks. The previous Explorer Timberline was only offered with the 300-hp 2.3-liter turbo four, which remains standard on most of the 2025 lineup. However, Ford might let customers opt for the mightier 400-hp twin-turbo 3.0-liter V-6, which is available on the current Explorer Platinum and standard on the Explorer ST. Remember, Ford hasn't officially confirmed the Explorer Tremor's existence, but that will likely happen in the coming months. Once it's fully revealed, we'll have answers to all of our above speculations, including pricing. If we had to guess, equipping the Explorer with the Tremor package will likely come with an initial ask of around $55K. Ford Explorer Tremor Looks Like the Brand's Next Off-Road-Ready SUV

Ford didn't share any details about the forthcoming Tremor, but we expect lots of orange accents, a slightly raised suspension, and beefier tires. The new model marks the end of the Timberline name, which appeared on the Explorer and but is being replaced by Tremor models for each SUV. When it comes to off-roading, Ford has something for everyone. There are the beastly Raptor models—found in the F-150, Ranger, and Bronco lineups—as well as the tamer, albeit still capable, Tremor trim that even graces the little Maverick pickup. EV fans can hop into the Mustang Mach-E Rallye, while lucky hardcore racers could have snagged a limited-production Bronco DR in 2023. Now, Ford is teasing another addition to the Tremor lineup, releasing an image that appears to show an upcoming Explorer Tremor. Ford didn't explicitly say which model is getting a new Tremor trim, but the photo doesn't hide much. The lower portion of the taillight matches up with that of the Explorer, and we can make out most of the word "Explorer" on the trim piece above the license plate. The Tremor will replace the Timberline trim from the pre-refresh Explorer, which departed after the 2024 model year, following a similar move for the bigger Expedition. Ford didn't provide any other details about the upcoming Explorer Tremor, but we can look to the Expedition for clues of what to expect. Ford added the off-road trim to the Expedition for the 2025 model year, coinciding with a significant overhaul for the F-150-based SUV. The Expedition Tremor wears skid plates underneath to shield the transfer case and fuel tank, gains a pair of side steps, and rides on 33-inch-tall all-terrain tires wrapped around 18-inch wheels. The other changes are purely visual, with a plethora of orange trim inside and out, a restyled grille with inboard auxiliary lights, and tow hooks in the front bumper. We expect the Ford Explorer Tremor to pack many of the same upgrades as the Timberline, which featured a slight suspension lift, retuned springs, and a Torsen limited-slip rear differential. The powertrain should remain the base turbocharged 2.3-liter four-cylinder producing 300 horsepower and 310 pound-feet of torque. Ford didn't provide any specifics on when to expect the Explorer Tremor, simply stating it will debut later this year.
