'I have great plans and ambitions': Noah Hawley's multi-season vision for 'Alien: Earth' has me counting down like it's Christmas

Ask literally anyone in my life what I talk about most, and I'd bet 100 facehuggers they'll say 'Alien.' Considering this is my favorite franchise and a full-blown obsession at this point, 'Alien: Earth' is naturally my most anticipated series of the year. The sci-fi horror show is fast approaching. We're now just under a month out and with the world premiere happening at San Diego Comic-Con next week, the marketing has kicked into high gear. That includes the latest issue of SFX magazine, which features 'Alien: Earth' on the cover and showrunner Noah Hawley sharing more about his vision for the series' future. He said (h/t GamesRadar Plus): 'With Legion, I had a three-act structure. I didn't know if that was going to take three seasons or five seasons, but I knew what the three major thoughts of the story were. And here, I feel like I have that as well." Hawley continued: 'We created it as a recurring series, and I have great plans and ambitions for it as such. On the film side, I've had some conversations with them. 'This is not a Kevin Feige Marvel Universe moment. I'm not saying that in success, that we shouldn't be coordinating or thinking big picture about that – the show has to be a hit before you can really have those conversations.' I didn't know my excitement could grow for 'Alien: Earth,' but here we are. The fact that Hawley has long-term plans already shows he has faith in the series, where it's headed, and how it can tie into the larger universe. In fact, when speaking with Vanity Fair about the possibility of it merging with the original source material, he stated, 'I do know that at a certain point, the Weyland-Yutani Corporation is going to divert the Nostromo to that planet [LV-426].' You know, the charming little rock where curiosity gets you violently killed. Honestly, I feel like a kid counting down to Christmas. Only instead of presents, I'm waiting for Xenomorphs, corporate cover-ups, and even more otherworldly threats. If I could climb into a hypersleep pod and wake up on release day, I would. 'Alien: Earth' is set to premiere on FX on Hulu in the U.S. on August 12, and Disney Plus in the U.K on August 13. 007: FIRST LIGHT Dev Explains Why It Introduces a Younger, Less Polished Bond for a New Generation — GeekTyrant

The team behind 007: First Light is doing something Bond fans haven't really seen before, they're rewinding the clock. Instead of dropping players into the polished shoes of the suave, lethal secret agent we all know, IO Interactive is taking us back to the very beginning. The version of James Bond at the center of this game hasn't even earned his double-O status yet, and this should make for a very interesting story and gaming experience. Speaking with GamesRadar+ during Summer Game Fest, 007 franchise director Jonathan Lacaille explained the creative thinking behind the decision to tell an origin story: 'We have a story to tell that people are probably very curious to find out. What are the events and the people that shaped the character [James Bond] is today? Was he always the womanizer that he is, or the strong man that he is?' By exploring an era of Bond's life that's 'not been covered much,' Lacaille says the team was drawn to 'the exciting part' of what makes Bond become Bond. By making him younger, more impulsive, and even a bit clumsy, IO is hoping to connect with a newer generation of players. 'There's a lot of youth in him, so maybe some recklessness at times. And he has a lot of charm, but he doesn't know how to use it yet. He's maybe not as efficient as a [later] Bond would be.' That raw, not-quite-formed Bond is a strategic choice meant to feel 'more relatable' to players who might not be longtime fans of the franchise. Lacaille admits that the average gaming audience skews younger than the typical Bond moviegoer, and by showing a Bond who hasn't figured it all out yet, IO is hoping to strike a chord. 'It's a new story to tell, and also a story that would connect really well>' Of course, starting from scratch isn't easy. Unlike adapting a specific film or novel, this game has no roadmap. But for Lacaille, that's part of the creative thrill: 'It's not an adaptation or anything [...] but that's what will allow us to make a great game, because then we have a lot of freedom that will fit with the gameplay mechanics.' Lacaille went on the says that First Light is 'well-advanced since we've announced it' and already 'feels fantastic.' This may not be the version of Bond we're used to, but I am excited to see what the creative team does with this.

Lucasfilm President Kathleen Kennedy Assures Fans That Screening of Original Cut of 1977's Star Wars Isn't 'Illegal'

The British Film Institute just screened the first print of the original Star Wars, Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope, and Lucasfilm boss Kathleen Kennedy was on hand to make sure fans knew the screening of George Lucas' sci-fi masterpiece was not, in fact, illegal. As spotted by GamesRadar, Kennedy joked during her introductory remarks before the iconic movie screened at the BFI Film on Film Festival in London on June 12: "I'm here to… make sure that you don't think that this is an illegal screening." She added about the print: "It's incredible folklore. I have to say that even when I came into the company, there was endless conversation about where everything was, and what was in fact the first print? And it's quite remarkable, what you're going to see is in fact the first print, and I'm not even sure there's another one quite like it. It's that rare. There's so much tinkering that's gone on over the years, and things that George [Lucas] decided, 'I'm gonna change this, I'm gonna try that.' And then, everybody kind of lost track of what it was." This showing was the first time the first print of the 1977 classic was publicly screened since 1978, though this particular cut had been made available on VHS a few times over the years. According to a report from The Telegraph back in April, the reels were stored at 23 degrees Fahrenheit to preserve quality and the viewing experience. "In these very special screenings, we present the film exactly as experienced by audiences on its original 1977 release," the BFI explained. "Screening from one of the precious handful of dye transfer IB Technicolor prints produced uniquely for the first British release, and preserved in the BFI National Archive, this has some of the wear that comes with an archive print, but its colour is gloriously unfaded. Truly unmissable."Interestingly enough, Lucas has been vocal in the past about keeping the original cut of the film in the dark, so much so that he made tweaks to that cut shortly after release and those cuts went on to become the Special Edition. That Special Edition, released in 1997, is what has been made readily available to fans over the years. Photo by PA Images via Getty Images.
