Hades 2 Gets Longest Patch Notes Ever In Last Major Update Before 1.0 Launch Finally Arrives Later This Year

Hades 2 continues trucking along in its journey through Steam Early Access with its third major update which adds new character interactions, art, and weapon aspects. With the longest set of patch notes yet, it's seemingly the last major overhaul before the game hits 1.0 and launches on Switch 2 later this year. 'Expect Hades II to get bigger and better with the addition of a new Hidden Aspect for each of the Nocturnal Arms, a new variation of every Guardian encounter, expanded relationships with a number of key characters, lots of new visual flourishes, and much more,' Greg Kasavin, creative director at Hades developer Supergiant Games, wrote on the game's Discord on Tuesday. 'After more than a year of Early Access development, we're now starting to prepare for our v1.0 launch! The final phase of Hades II development involves adding the story's true ending and other finishing touches. Some additional details are in the in-game Development Roadmap.' A dramatic reading of the new patch notes runs over 38 minutes and includes things like revamping The Flames of Ygnium for snappier combat, new final forms for Nocturnal Arms, and enemies spawning in faster during waves to limit downtime. Probably most noticeable at the outset is that Narcissus has an actual 3D model, animations, and an updated portrait now. No more being self-obsessed with placeholder art. The game's main menu has also been updated to state that the next update will coincide with the 1.0 launch on PC, Switch 1, and Switch 2 (PlayStation 4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S will come later). While Hades 2 is confirmed to be coming out in full sometime in 2025, Supergiant Games isn't ready to reveal the exact timing just yet, and I wouldn't necessarily be surprised if it slips to 2026. 'We really appreciate your patience on this,' Kasavin wrote. 'Sometimes the last stretch of development on a game can make all the difference, so we have always taken this phase seriously and appreciate your continued support.' We also don't know what the final price will be. Hades 2 is currently $30 on Steam ($27 with the current 10 percent discount), but it could go up to $40 once it's out on consoles. The action roguelite is launching simultaneously on both Switch 1 and Switch 2, with improved visual fidelity and framerate on the newer hardware. Supergiant hasn't confirmed yet whether that 'next-gen' upgrade will cost more or be a free upgrade. Hollow Knight: Silksong, another sequel to a critically acclaimed indie action game, is also set to arrive later this year. I can only pray that both sides are talking to one another and not planning to shadowdrop on the same day. . For the latest news, Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.

Supergiant Confirms Hades 2 Will Be a Nintendo Switch 2 Console Exclusive at Launch

Last week's Nintendo Switch 2 reveal continues to make waves — and now, Supergiant Games has confirmed Hades 2 will be a console exclusive at launch. The Nintendo Switch 2 remains gaming's hottest topic following last week's Nintendo Direct, which revealed key details about the once-enigmatic console. Supergiant Games made a surprise announcement today in a post from Nintendo of America on X (formerly Twitter), confirming that its next big title, Hades 2, will be a timed Nintendo Switch 2 console exclusive at launch. The Creator's Voice video post can be viewed below: The first instalment in the Creator's Voice series featured FromSoftware's game director Hidetaka Miyazaki, who revealed that The Duskbloods — also announced during the Nintendo Direct — would be a Nintendo Switch 2 exclusive as well. In the post above, a message appears near the end of the video stating: 'Hades 2 launching first for consoles on Nintendo Switch 2. More information coming later this year.' It's worth noting that Hades 2 has been in early access on Steam since 2024. The message specifically refers to a 'console exclusive,' suggesting the game will likely exit early access on PC at the same time it launches on the Switch 2. As for Xbox Series X/S and PlayStation 5 versions, players on those platforms will have to wait an undisclosed amount of time after the Switch 2 launch. CGMagazine's Hades 2 preview reads: 'Hades 2 is not only a blast to play, but easily justified as a follow-up to arguably the best game in their repertoire,' so fans of the original Supergiant Games release will want to keep an eye out for the sequel's full launch. For those who want to dive into early access now, Hades 2 is available via its Steam page.

Massive new Hades 2 update finally adds a brutal final boss and, more importantly, a new pet sidekick

When you buy through links on our articles, Future and its syndication partners may earn a commission. Hades 2: The Warsong update has been revealed, and it adds a final boss to the last level even though the game's still in Early Access. The roguelike sequel first launched in Early Access last May, and as of yet there's no release date for its 1.0 update, but that's not stopping developer Supergiant from dropping some, well, giant updates. There have been a handful of smaller patches with balancing changes and bug fixes, but Warsong is only the second "Major Update" we've seen, and it's pretty major indeed. You can get the full patch notes here, but the biggest highlight is definitely the addition of "the final confrontation on the surface," so basically, the Hades 2 equivalent of the Hades boss fight in the first game. While that's technically the main draw here, all of us real ones know that it's the addition of a brand new pet sidekick, or as they're known in Hades 2, the Animal Familiar. Melinoe's new furry companion is the fifth to be added in Early Access, and the li'l guy is called Gale the Polecat. For the unaware, let me bless your timeline real quick. Polecats are in the same family as weasels, badgers, and otters, except they're way cuter than any of those combined. Just look at this little stinker! Anywho, the other Big Thing is Ares, the original God of War Hades fans have been missing since the first game. Ares was popular for his powerful boons and powerful jawline, and now Hades 2 players can benefit from his unique blessings at long last. Elsewhere, Warsong tidies up some menu screens and adds new and reworked art to the Altar of Ashes, as well as over 2,000 new voice lines, what seems to be a singing minigame at the Crossroads, and a whole lot of Boon reworks. Warsong is available as a free Hades 2 update now, and Supergiant already has plans for a third Major Update, which should be releasing "some months from now." In the meantime, see where the original Hades lands in our best roguelike games list. Spoilers: it's high.
