Dublin Airport operator submits plans to expand Pier One West building

The operator of Dublin Airport has submitted a planning application to Fingal County Council seeking permission to expand the existing Pier One West building at Dublin Airport. The proposed development will add a second storey to the western end of the current structure, increasing the floorspace by 1,080 square metres. This expansion forms part of daa's long-term infrastructure strategy to ensure Dublin Airport can meet the demands of a growing Irish population and economy. The development will include two new boarding gates, two external vertical circulation cores, a cantilevered structure and enclosed plant, comms and electrical rooms. Internally, the extension will deliver enhanced passenger facilities, including additional seating, food and beverage outlets and upgraded toilet amenities. The project is designed to significantly improve the passenger experience and operational efficiency at Dublin Airport by addressing current overcrowding and circulation challenges. These improvements will streamline passenger flow, reduce delays and support a more resilient and sustainable airport operation. 'This extension is not just about bricks and mortar, it's a vital step in enhancing the passenger experience at Dublin Airport,' said Vincent Harrison, Chief Commercial and Development Officer at daa. 'As we work towards securing approval for our Infrastructure Application and the removal of the current passenger cap, this much-needed expansion ensures we can continue to meet growing demand and maintain our role as a key driver of tourism, trade, and investment in Ireland's future.' The development will include two new boarding gates The Pier 1 West extension complements daa's wider Infrastructure Application (IA), which outlines a €2.9 billion Capital Investment Programme to expand capacity and improve sustainability across the airport. Daa submitted its IA to Fingal County Council in December 2023. The application seeks permission for significant infrastructure improvements and to increase Dublin Airport's passenger capacity to 40 million, in line with national aviation policy, the Fingal Development Plan and the Dublin Airport Local Area Plan. Overall, the daa says the IA responds to the unequivocal national demand for air travel and daa's role, on behalf of the Irish State, to manage and sustainably develop Dublin Airport in the national interest. The IA was a substantial submission, comprising 7,000 pages and 700 technical drawings and was Ireland's largest planning application in 2023. Key elements include upgrades to Terminal 1, a new pier at Terminal 2, expanded US Customs Preclearance and a new Ground Transportation Centre. The programme also supports daa's commitment to reduce carbon emissions by 51 per cent by 2030 and to achieve net zero by 2050. CIMB Backs TNB Despite RM5.8 Billion Tax Overhang

CIMB Investment Bank Bhd (CIMB Securities) has maintained its BUY rating on Tenaga Nasional Bhd (TNB) with an unchanged target price of RM15.75, even as the utility giant faces a new tax challenge after receiving a Notice of Additional Assessment for 2022 amounting to RM840.1 million from the Inland Revenue Board (IRB). The research house said this latest assessment brings the total cumulative amount from notices issued for 2013–2021 to RM5.89 billion. It added that there remains a risk the IRB could issue further assessments for 2023 and 2024, which may push the total closer to RM8 billion based on capital expenditure trends. TNB is currently assessing its legal options in response to the notice, taking into account its pending application for Investment Allowance (IA) under Schedule 7B of the Income Tax Act 1967 submitted to the Ministry of Finance. CIMB Securities highlighted that this follows the Federal Court's recent decision to overturn earlier rulings in TNB's favour regarding a similar assessment for 2018, concluding that the correct tax schedule applicable is Schedule 7B rather than Schedule 7A. CIMB Securities noted that in the worst-case scenario where TNB pays the full amount, including possible future assessments, the impact on its discounted cash flow-based target price could be as high as RM1.30 to RM1.40 per share, or 8–9%. However, this impact would be smaller or even negligible if the group's IA claims are approved. Despite the tax uncertainty, the house maintained its positive stance on TNB, citing its reasonable valuation at 7.0 times forecast FY2026 enterprise value-to-EBITDA and dividend yields projected between 3.3% and 4.0% for FY2025 to FY2027. The brokerage expects the company's earnings to remain resilient, underpinned by regulated returns and stable operational cash flows. As of July 28, TNB shares traded at RM13.60. Related

Ponting On Gill's 'Out Of Character' Aggression: '..Show That It's His Team Now'

Ricky Ponting backed Shubman Gill's on-field aggression during the Lord's Test, saying the Indian captain's actions, though out of character, showed leadership and assertiveness. Ahead of the crucial fourth Test at Old Trafford starting on Wednesday, legendary batter Ricky Ponting has supported India skipper Shubman Gill's on-field aggression during the Lord's Test, stating that Gill was standing up for his team. With the series level at 1-1 heading into the Lord's Test last week, the fiercely contested third Test between England and India delivered plenty of on-field tension. One of the more heated moments came late on Day 3, when Gill had an animated exchange with England's openers. After India matched England's first-innings total of 387, they hoped to sneak in two quick overs in the final six minutes of the day. However, Zak Crawley thwarted those plans by pulling out of two deliveries during Jasprit Bumrah's run-up and calling the physio for a hand injury, leading to a fiery confrontation between Gill and the two openers. ICC Hall of Famer Ponting understood why Gill's aggressive posturing at Lord's was met with surprise. Ponting said that Gill's actions were out of character based on what he knew of him in the past. 'That was a little out of character from what I've known from Shubman in the past," Ponting told host Sanjana Ganesan in the latest episode of The ICC Review. 'I am sure everyone who was there watching it and I know you would know him quite well, that's not what he's generally like." However, Ponting believes that Gill was taking a stand for his team in that situation. 'That's the captain standing up for his team, that's a captain really wanting to show that it's his team now and this is the way that we're going to play the game, and also, I guess, wanting to give a little bit back." Ponting, who played Tests in England across four separate tours and twice as captain (2005 and 2009), said that the pressures of such a high-profile tour could impact a skipper. 'The UK can be a hard place to play. The crowds, as much as they love their game, can be as hostile a place to play as anywhere in the world. 'The media there, when you're in a big series, when it's an Ashes series or when it's England and India, the media always feel like they're right on top of your back as well." What Does Ponting Want Gill To Do? Ponting also felt that during the high-intensity Test, which India narrowly lost by 22 runs, Gill needed to assert himself and lead with authority, similar to former captain Virat Kohli. 'I think that's him starting to put his stamp on his team. And a lot like Virat (Kohli) did, similar ways like that. Rohit (Sharma) probably was never as outwardly aggressive, I guess, especially to opposition players. 'I know he (Rohit) would quite often get aggressive with his teammates and try to bring the best out of them that way. But I love watching Shubman stand up for what he thought was right in the game last week." IA seeks public feedback on draft insurance law

The Insurance Authority (IA) put forth the draft insurance law for public consultation via the Istitlaa platform until July 22. The draft bill aims to achieve the stability and growth of the insurance sector, as well as stimulate investment therein, and contribute to financial stability. This is in addition to protecting the rights of policyholders, insured persons, and beneficiaries, according to the authority. It also seeks to promote, regulate, and ensure fair competition among industry players, while strengthening stakeholders' confidence in the local insurance sector. This is besides establishing and upholding the principles and pillars of the contractual insurance ties, in addition to exercising effective supervision and oversight to ensure justice and transparency within the insurance sector. Moreover, it aspires to support the sector's innovation and digital transformation, including training and localization initiatives, the authority added. IA indicated that the provision of the law will apply to all insurance and reinsurance operations, and any individual exercising any of the insurance or reinsurance activities within the Kingdom.
