Well-known social media personality praises Wexford humour during visit

Fabu-D moved to Ireland when he was 14 years old and gained fame through his social media videos where he portrays comedic characters that also touch on his experience as an immigrant in Ireland. He currently boasts over 619,000 followers on Facebook, nearly 700,000 on TikTok and 184,000 on Instagram. He travelled down to Enniscorthy for the 'Dublin Invasion' comedy show hosted by Brendan Robinson and featuring acts Joe Dowlin, Willa White, and Eric Lalor in the IFA centre on Friday, July 18. Taking to social media, he filmed his escapades around the town, taking in the sites while conversing with people he passed on the street. "Wexford is known for two things; strawberries and legends,' he said before taking a closer look at the colourful umbrella installations on Slaney Street that has become affectionately named 'Umbrella Street' by locals and visitors. While on his stroll, people stopped their cars and crossed the street just to shake hands with him. "Enniscorthy is active,' he added. On his quick tour he also stopped by the White House Bar and M&M Meats to get an in-depth look at their award-winning sausage. After getting recommendations on where he should have a meal, he popped into the local Holy Grail restaurant where he met owner Biju and thoroughly enjoyed a dish of half and half curry. "The chips are very nice, very very fresh. I'm going to rate this a ten out of ten – unreal. This is the definition of a 'Holy Grail'. I love the chef,' he said. Grateful for his fans, he made time to take photos and shake hands with the crowd of local young people who followed him into the restaurant. "I had a great time in Enniscorthy. Everyone was very nice and friendly and the comedy show was amazing, everyone laughed at my set. Thank you so much Enniscorthy for the craic – can't wait to visit again,' he said.

'Donkey' meat racket busted in capital

The Islamabad Food Authority (IFA) on Sunday detained a foreign national and recovered a large quantity of donkey meat in a surprise raid on a facility in Tarnol, raising concerns about illegal meat distribution in the federal capital. Officials raided a site in Tarnol and seized over 25 mounds (1,000 kg) of donkey meat. The team also discovered more than 60 live donkeys allegedly being kept for illegal slaughter and meat supply. It has been revealed that the meat was allegedly being supplied not only to local markets but also exported abroad. Further investigations are underway regarding the distribution network and the buyers involved. According to sources, the operation was being overseen by a Chinese national who had been actively operating in the Tarnol area for a long time. IFA Deputy Director Operations Dr Tahira Siddique confirmed that a foreign national was taken into custody at the site, while all local individuals involved managed to escape before law enforcement arrived. The arrested person was handed over to police for further legal action, she said, adding the IFA acted swiftly after receiving a tip-off. "We received information late at night and dispatched teams immediately. Upon reaching the location, we found several live donkeys and a large quantity of meat," she said. According to her, the individuals behind the operation had set up a complete slaughtering and meat-processing setup, which had reportedly been functional for some time. The initial investigation suggests that the meat was primarily being supplied to foreign nationals residing in the city, though officials have not ruled out wider distribution. "Selling donkey meat without proper permission or documentation is illegal," Dr Tahira said and added that the suspects were not in possession of any export permits or licenses, making the operation unlawful on multiple counts. The IFA has initiated an inquiry to determine which areas the meat had already been supplied to, and how long the operation had been running. Investigators are also trying to identify local partners or suppliers who may have been assisting the operation. The meat recovered during the raid was immediately destroyed to prevent any chance of it entering the local food supply. Dr Tahira confirmed that the entire process was documented for legal and investigative purposes. "We ensured safe disposal of the meat, and we have the complete footage of the destruction," she said. Local police registered an FIR following the raid. Authorities are continuing to search for the other suspects involved in the illegal activity. Dr Tahira further stated that the raid was not just about law enforcement but also about protecting public health. "The risk this poses to our food chain is serious. Whether it is about hygiene, public safety, or religious concerns, such illegal practices cannot be allowed in our system," she said. The IFA also suspected that donkey meat might have been supplied to different parts of Islamabad under the guise of legal meat products.

Authorities seize 1,000 kilograms of donkey meat in Islamabad, arrest ‘foreign national'

ISLAMABAD: Local administration in the Pakistani capital of Islamabad has seized around 1,000 kilograms of donkey meat from an illegal slaughterhouse and arrested a 'foreign national,' officials said on Sunday. The seizure was made during a joint raid by the Islamabad Food Authority (IFA), local police and the Islamabad district administration on a farmhouse in Tarnol area, according to the IFA. Fifty live donkeys were also recovered from the site and an IFA team was destroying the meat under the supervision of Deputy Director Dr. Tahira Siddique. Police have lodged a case against the arrested foreign national, who had been running the operation, and are looking for his local facilitators. 'A foreign national was arrested at the site which has been sealed and an investigation is underway,' Muhammad Nasir Butt, a spokesperson for the Islamabad district administration, told Arab News. 'We will conduct further raids as per the findings of the investigation and efforts are also underway to trace local individuals involved.' Butt said the meat had been packed for 'export to a neighboring country.' 'So far, we have not found any traces of meat being used in the local restaurants, but administration is investigating the matter from multiple angles,' he added. According to a police report seen by Arab News, the farmhouse had no authorization to process donkey meat or export live donkeys. 'Due to the absence of records for [processing] haram meat, and on the basis of its supply and sale, legal action shall be taken against concerned individuals under Sections 11, 12, 13, and 14 of the Islamabad Capital Territory Food Safety Act, 2021,' the report said. Pakistan is frequently listed among countries with the highest number of donkey populations worldwide. The country's donkey population rose to 6 million in fiscal year 2024-25, which ended in June, compared to 5.9 million in 2023–24, according to the latest economic survey. In May this year, Pakistan Customs had foiled an attempt to smuggle donkey hides worth approximately Rs80 million (around $283,800) to China. The staff deployed on the Risk Management Profiling System of the Karachi Customs Collectorate detected a container number SEGU-3154225 cleared from the South Asia Pakistan Port (SAPT) terminal in Karachi, whose export documents showed 285 packages of leather products were being sent to China. The animal's meat and hides are quite popular in China. Gelatin derived from donkey hides is highly sought after in China for its use in Ejiao, a traditional medicinal remedy. Several Chinese eateries sell donkey meat and burgers for consumption. Dr. Siddique, who was part of the team that raided the farmhouse, said the availability of safe and quality food in Islamabad was the top priority of the IFA. 'We are enforcing a zero-tolerance policy against those who endanger public health,' she was quoted as saying by the IFA.
