Behind the mic: who brings the ‘Kpop Demon Hunters' characters to life?

Primarily a model, she spends most of her time strutting down the catwalk for designer brands. She made her lead role debut in 2019 when she played Margot Park in Netflix's revival series Tales of the City . A household name in Korean media, Kim has acted in numerous films and television shows—even lending her voice to a couple of video games. Celine's singing voice is done by none other than Broadway star and Disney legend Lea Salonga, who originated the role of Kim in Miss Saigon . Fun fact, he's also a licensed physician of internal medicine in California, but has stopped practising in favour of his acting career. Jinu Above Jinu, voiced by Ahn Hyo-seop and Andrew Choi (Photo: Netflix) Serving as the perfect demonic foil to Rumi, the devilishly charming Juni is fittingly played by the Kdrama star, Ahn Hyo-seop. Rising to prominence for his first lead role in Queen of the Ring , Ahn has since amassed a massive following for his performances in the second and third seasons of Dr Romantic and Business Proposal , among others. When he's singing alongside the Saja Boys, Jinu is played by Andrew Choi. You've probably seen him on the second season of SBS's K-pop Star, where he finished third. If you missed that, then you definitely know him for his music. As of writing, Choi has three singles to his name with numerous musical compositions for the songs of NCT 127, NCT Ten and Monsta X, among others. From 2006 to 2017, gamers have known Kim as Johnny Gat in the Saints Row franchise, while recent fans may know him as Dr Jackson Han in the American adaptation of The Good Doctor . He also plays Fire Lord Ozai in Netflix's live-action adaptation of Avatar: The Last Airbender . Gwi-Ma Above Gwi-Ma, voiced by Lee Byung-hun (Photo: Netflix) The king of the demons and main villain of the Kpop Demon Hunters, the faceless Gwi-Ma is given a menacing voice courtesy of Lee Byung-hun. You might recognise him as the Front Man in Netflix's Squid Game but he also appeared in Hollywood action films such as Red 2 , the G.I. Joe franchise, and Terminator Genisys, among many others. It is rare for an animated film to see such a slim difference in the viewership from week one to week three. According to What's on Netflix, the movie currently stands at 56.1 million views. It is believed that the rewatchability of the movie got the fans returning to the screens to enjoy the animated film, causing the viewership to rise. What is KPop Demon Hunters about? KPop Demon Hunters is based on a group of girls who try to make it big in the music industry while also sealing their identities as demon hunters. While Rumi, Mira, and Zoey may not be fighting the demons in real life, their voices have surely reached millions, as the soundtrack of the film has topped the charts. Opening up about the film's success, the co-director of the film, Maggie Kang, revealed that she had been pitching the project for the past seven years to Variety. Kang said, 'For me, it's been seven years since I pitched this, almost to the day.' She further added, 'You're really working in a hole. You have no idea. You're looking at the same stuff over and over again for a few years: the same jokes, the same moments.' As for the cast of the film, Arden Cho, Liza Koshy, and May Hong voiced the lead roles. The animated film, which centers around fictionalized K-pop groups and comes with a killer soundtrack, has ranked among the platform's most popular titles since it arrived in late June. The album that accompanies the movie isn't just a commercial success — it's gaining momentum, which is a relatively rare feat for any piece of music connected to a visual project. KPop Demon Hunters Jumps to No. 2 In its second week on the Billboard rankings, KPop Demon Hunters climbs on two of the four tallies where it makes its home. This time around, the soundtrack jumps from No. 10 to the runner-up spot on the Top Streaming Albums chart. It also ascends from No. 8 to third place on the Billboard 200. A Hot 100 Invasion for KPop Demon Hunters As consumption of the KPop Demon Hunters album grows, the songs featured on the full-length also become hits. A handful that appeared on the Billboard charts last week, including the handful that landed on the Hot 100, reach new peaks, while five tunes debut on the same list. The tracks are credited to various artists, including the made-up girl group and boy band from the movie, as well as the actual vocalists who lent their talents to the characters. The consensus says that the film feels tired even before it its review, the news agency AP said the "great sin" of 'The Old Guard 2' is in its "non-ending", which seems like a waste of time. "Overall 'The Old Guard 2' is fine, a bit of a background movie that's probably easy enough to tune in and out of (though Schoenaerts, a standout, gives it some real pathos).
