Shakira, The Weeknd to headline free Global Citizen Festival concert in Central Park this fall
Shakira might still be on her Las Mujeres Ya No Lloran world tour, but that doesn't mean high-priced concert tickets are your only chance to see her performing live this summer. In fact, you can see her totally free on Saturday, September 27, when she and The Weeknd headline the 2025 Global Citizen Festival, once again held at Central Park's Great Lawn. An annual NYC event since 2012, Global Citizen Festival effectively turns the Great Lawn into a massive open-air concert as a reward for doing good in the community. The concert blends superstar performances (past headliners include Beyoncé, Lizzo, and Metallica) with calls for global change, from promoting climate action to ending extreme poverty. This year's event will be hosted for the 11th time by Hugh Jackman, a Global Citizen Ambassador. The concert will also see appearances from Tyla, Ayra Starr and Mariah the Scientist, with more performers to be announced in the coming weeks. "I'm honored to headline the incredible Global Citizen Festival in Central Park this September,' Shakira said in a statement. 'Music has always been my way of connecting with people and leaving a mark on the world. I can't wait to perform, unite, and inspire action," Shakira said. Tickets are technically free; you don't have to pay for them, but you do have to earn them. Luckily, you'll simultaneously earn karma. Anyone interested in scoring tickets for the event can do so by downloading the Global Citizen app or going to its website and signing up to be a Global Citizen. Then you just have to participate in simple advocacy efforts like signing petitions, sharing awareness videos, or finding volunteer opportunities, each of which earns points that can be used to enter ticket lotteries for the festival. For 2025, the campaign is focused on three major global goals: providing energy access to 1 million people across Africa; mobilizing $200 million to protect 30 million hectares of the Amazon rainforest; and giving 30,000 children around the world access to quality education, in partnership with FIFA. There's also a strong local focus this year. The initiative is working to support nonprofits throughout all five boroughs and aims to register 40,000 New Yorkers for volunteer opportunities, including youth mentorship, resume coaching and neighborhood revitalization projects.

Matthew McConaughey, Jennifer Garner, and other Hollywood stars ‘heartbroken' over devastating Texas floods
Hollywood stars have taken to social media to express grief, share resources, and offer support in the wake of the devastating flash floods that struck central Texas over the Fourth of July weekend. The disaster has left at least 100 people dead, with more than 160 still missing across six counties in the US. Several Hollywood celebs haved posted about the devastating floods in Texas, US. Reacting to the tragedy, popular Hollywood star Matthew McConaughey, a native of Uvalde, Texas, addressed the disaster on Instagram, writing, 'There's a long road ahead, but right now the shock, the pain, and the chaos need the steady hand of a neighbor.' His message came as rescue efforts intensified and emergency teams continued scouring flood-affected zones for survivors. Actor Jennifer Garner, who was born in Houston, posted a brief but emotional note on her Instagram story: 'Texas. God, be near.' The actor's message echoed the sorrow felt across the state as communities began reckoning with the scale of the damage. Actor Hilary Duff, also a Houston native, reflected on her own childhood experiences at summer camps in the region. 'I was — and forever will be — that girl with a wild-hearted, fierce love for my barefoot summers at camp in the Texas Hill Country,' she wrote. Calling the experience 'a realm of true magic,' she said the floods had left her 'heartbroken' for her home state. As donations pour in, Colombian pop star Shakira, currently on her Las Mujeres Ya No Lloran world tour, pledged proceeds from her July 5 San Antonio show to Catholic Charities of San Antonio. 'Dear San Antonio, our hearts and prayers are with those affected by the flood,' she said, urging fans to donate to ongoing relief efforts. Country singer Miranda Lambert, who is from Longview, Texas, focused on the impact to animals. 'I can't even come up with any words for the loss that everybody's suffering,' she said, while urging support for her foundation, which is aiding displaced pets. Maren Morris, originally from Arlington, highlighted the Texas Hill Country Community Foundation, which is coordinating support for shelters, first responders, and local nonprofits. Meanwhile, Khloe Kardashian wrote, 'The loss of those sweet, innocent children is something I can't fully process,' offering prayers for families still searching for their loved ones. Singer Lana Del Rey also offered words of support for Texans. "All of my prayers are with you every moment of the day this week and may all the angels be with you as you search for even more lost loved ones," the singer-songwriter said.

Peru Clinic that Leaked Shakira Medical Record Given Hefty Fine
The Peruvian clinic that treated Colombian mega-star Shakira for an abdominal condition in February has been fined $190,000 over the leaking of her medical record, local health authorities announced Wednesday. The 48-year-old four-time Grammy-winning Colombian singer-songwriter was forced to scrap a blockbuster show in Lima in February after being rushed to hospital with an unspecified abdominal ailment. Two days later, she was back on stage in the Peruvian capital. Shortly after her brief hospitalization, her medical report appeared on social media, sparking widespread outrage among fans and an official investigation. The Delgado Auna clinic, where she was treated, said at the time it was investigating what it called a "serious ethical breach of our code of conduct and regulations governing personal data processing." Shakira is on her first world tour in seven years, titled "Las mujeres ya no lloran" (Women Don't Cry Anymore).

Peruvian clinic fined after leaking Shakira's medical records
A private clinic in Peru has been hit with a USD 190,000 fine after the unauthorized release of pop icon Shakira's medical information earlier this year, health authorities confirmed on Wednesday. The Grammy-winning Colombian singer was briefly hospitalized in February while in Lima for her 'Las Mujeres Ya No Lloran' world tour, her first global tour in seven years. Shakira, 48, was treated for an unspecified abdominal condition that forced her to cancel a scheduled performance. Just two days later, she returned to the stage. However, what followed her hospitalization sparked backlash across social media: her confidential medical report surfaced online, prompting both fan outrage and a formal investigation. The Delgado Auna clinic, where the singer received treatment, acknowledged the breach at the time, calling it 'a serious ethical breach of our code of conduct and regulations governing personal data processing.' Peru's health authorities have now concluded their inquiry and levied a fine of roughly USD 190,000 against the facility for violating patient privacy laws.
