Police identify suspect vehicle in weekend shooting

Police now have a suspect vehicle, wanted in connection to a shooting that took place over the weekend. Just after 11 p.m. on Saturday, police were called to the 1300 block of Riverside Drive East for a report of gunfire. The Windsor Police Service said two vehicles were going east down Riverside Drive, when someone in the suspect allegedly yelled obscenities at the victim. A few moments later, someone in the suspect vehicle shot a gun at the victim's car, causing damage to the back window. The vehicle left the area shortly after. No physical injuries were sustained in the incident. The car is described as a light-colored early 2000s Lexus. The suspects are described as: Driver: A Black man in his 20s with short black hair Front passenger: Middle Eastern man in his 20s with short black hair and a full black beard Back passenger: Middle Eastern man, believed to be in his 20s Anyone who saw the incident or who can identify wanted suspects are asked to call the Major Crimes Unit at 519-255-6700 extension 4830. Crime Stoppers also accepts anonymous tips at 519-258-8477 or online.

The DVLA has released its latest findings on car theft that will give cause for concern for some motorists Drivers have been issued a warning as new data was issued on the most popular cars for UK thieves to steal. Lexus vehicles have emerged as the top choice for car thieves. ‌ They have overtaken Range Rovers from Jaguar Land Rover as the car in top spot. Fresh DVLA figures suggest that Lexus motors are increasingly in criminals' crosshairs, with five models from the premium brand featuring in the top 10 most stolen vehicles list. ‌ The DVLA's examination of 2024 car theft data, covering more than 61,000 stolen vehicles, shows that whilst the Ford Fiesta leads in sheer numbers, it's actually less prone to theft relative to how many are on Britain's roads. ‌ Lexus ES 300 is being targeted In an alarming development, the Lexus ES 300 has been pinpointed as the motor most susceptible to being stolen last year, with one in 30 ending up in criminals' hands. Additional Lexus models under threat include the RX 450, LC 500, UX 250, and NX 300, according to the Express. Toyota, which owns Lexus, has addressed these concerning statistics by emphasising their investment in security technology. They said: "Toyota GB has invested millions of pounds in a variety of security solutions. Our anti-theft measures form part of a nationwide customer care offering." ‌ The company also stressed their commitment to safeguarding customers' motors, stating: "For example, at a cost of more than £10million to Lexus, selected customers were provided with a free Tracker vehicle location service. "As a result, a 96% recovery rate has been achieved. We have subsequently rolled out Tracker installation as an option for buyers of certain models." Whilst the recent statistics may be disappointing for Lexus owners, they seen to highlight the progress Jaguar Land Rover has made in protecting their vehicles, placing them among Britain's most secure cars. Clive Wain, head of police liaison at Tracker, a firm specialising in vehicle security, has commended the improvements made by the British manufacturer. He also stressed the continuing fight to prevent stolen vehicles from being exported abroad. He said: "Lexus is making considerable efforts to protect its customers' cars but JLR suffered a rise in thefts sooner than it and so has had more time to react and develop solutions. "However, its cars are still being stolen. There is a thriving market overseas for Lexus, JLR and other premium vehicles and we recover many at docksides."

More) In 2009, the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act offered the first federal rebates and tax credits for electric vehicles (EVs) in the United States. The credits were reinstated in 2022, under the Inflation Reduction Act, and written to last until 2032. The current administration had other plans, and lawmakers recently passed a new tax and budget bill (nicknamed the "One Big Beautiful Bill") to reset the EV rebates and tax credit expiration date to September 30, 2025—that's right around the corner. While there are no plans to offer a federal tax credit for new or used EV purchases after that date, some state and local governments may offer similar programs. Still, none are as comprehensive as the rebates and tax credits that are set to expire in just over 60 days. This creates quite a dilemma for consumers considering a new or used EV. Should they accelerate their purchase to take advantage of the rebates and credits, or wait and see what the future holds? Sound advice suggests that if you currently have plans to buy or lease an EV before year's end, it makes sense to accelerate the transaction and complete it before September 30, 2025. If you are only casually considering an EV—primarily enticed by the $7,500 (new) or $4,000 (used) incentives—it's better to wait until next year. Today, the average new EV costs about $9,000 more than a comparable gasoline vehicle, and used EVs are still about $2,000 more than an equivalent used gasoline vehicle. Until now, automakers have relied heavily on rebates and tax credits to boost sales. They have successfully advertised the discounts in their marketing efforts. Once the credit is gone in October, demand for EVs is expected to slow significantly. Manufacturers are not obligated to lower prices—most won't be able to discount existing inventory, and consumers will be forced to pay the higher prices (some shoppers will pay more willingly, noting that EVs cost significantly less to own over the long run, thanks to lower charging costs and reduced maintenance). Over time, most manufacturers will eventually lower prices, offer increased dealer incentives (savings passed on to shoppers), or complement sales with attractive financing and low interest rates—all of this is dependent on market conditions, consumer demand, wholesale battery prices (during manufacturing), and the competitive environment. And they will likely shift marketing campaigns to stress the advantages of EV ownership (zero fuel costs, lower maintenance, and the convenience of home chargers). In summary, if you are currently in the market for a new or used EV, it's wise to complete the purchase before September 30, 2025. Keep in mind that the rules have changed—not all EVs and buyers qualify for today's credits. Under the new legislation, there are very specific rules regarding North American assembly, battery sourcing, vehicle pricing caps ($80,000 for SUVs, pickups, and vans; $55,000 for other vehicles), and buyer income levels (consult with your tax professional to determine eligibility).
