'If You Beat Me...': Maharashtra Governor's Blunt Warning To Thackerays Over Marathi Language Row
As Maharashtra battles a brewing language war, Governor CP Radhakrishnan has issued a stark warning: violence over language will scare off investors and hurt the state's future. Amid rising attacks on non-Marathi speakers, allegedly by workers linked to Uddhav Thackeray's Shiv Sena and Raj Thackeray's MNS, the Governor recalled a disturbing incident from Tamil Nadu to show how linguistic hate destroys social harmony. He also made a powerful appeal: respect every mother tongue, don't impose your own. Radhakrishnan admitted he doesn't know Hindi and said India needs more multilingualism, not division. Maharashtra Minister Girish Mahajan echoed these views, saying violence in the name of Marathi pride was damaging and hypocritical. This debate now goes beyond politics, it's about the soul of Indian federalism and diversity.#marathi #rajthackeray #mns #uddhavthackeray #shivsenaubt #maharashtralanguagerow #thackerayclash #governorradhakrishnan #marathipride #languageviolence #toi #toibharat #bharat #trending #breakingnews #indianews Read More

NEW DELHI: Maharashtra Navnirman Sena members, along with other political party workers, forced a Gujarat BJP MLA's office, located in Seawoods, Navi Mumbai, to remove a Gujarati signboard on Monday. The signboard was taken down with police presence outside the public relations office of Virendrasinh Bahadursinh Jadeja, who serves as MLA for Rapar constituency in Gujarat, PTI reported. The party had previously issued an ultimatum demanding the board's removal last week. Led by MNS Navi Mumbai City Secretary Sachin Kadam, representatives from Shiv Sena (UBT), Congress, and Nationalist Congress Party (SP) organised a demonstration to the NRI Sagari police station. The group submitted their request to authorities, demanding the immediate replacement of the Gujarati board with a Marathi one. They also requested action against those who they claimed had "insulted" Marathi identity. NRI Sagari police station's Senior Inspector Sunil Kadam provided assurance that the disputed board would be removed promptly. Following this assurance, MNS supporters visited the BJP office where the Gujarati plaque was removed under police supervision. The MNS released a statement saying, "In the presence of the police, the Gujarati plaque was removed. And the BJP MLA's worker publicly apologised to all the Marathi people and assured to install the Marathi dais within a few hours."Maharashtra Navnirman Sena

'Speak Marathi Or Leave': Mumbai Woman Confronted As Language War Escalates
Last Updated: A video of the altercation showed the woman, identified as Sanjira Devi, standing outside her home when a group of men blocked the passage near her house. A woman in Ghatkopar was allegedly confronted by a group of men for not speaking in Marathi, in another incident highlighting language-related tensions in the city. A video of the altercation showed the woman, identified as Sanjira Devi, standing outside her home when a group of men blocked the passage near her house. When she asked them to make way, they allegedly demanded that she speak in Marathi. She refused, which led to a verbal exchange. 'Speak in Marathi. This is Maharashtra," one of the men is heard saying in the video, pointing his finger at her. The woman responded, 'No, you talk in Hindi. Tell me, aren't you a Hindustani? Aren't you from Hindustan?" However, the group had dispersed by the time officers arrived at the scene. This comes amid a renewed focus on the Maharashtra Navnirman Sena's (MNS) long-standing campaign promoting the use of Marathi in public spaces. In recent weeks, similar incidents have been reported in Mumbai, including an alleged assault on a shopkeeper and vandalism at the office of investor Sushil Kedia after he reportedly said he would not speak Marathi. These developments coincide with criticism from some quarters over the alleged imposition of Hindi in Maharashtra under the three-language policy of the National Education Policy (NEP). On July 5, MNS chief Raj Thackeray and Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Uddhav Thackeray held a joint rally after two decades, signalling a rare moment of unity. view comments First Published: July 21, 2025, 13:13 IST Disclaimer: Comments reflect users' views, not News18's. Congress, AAP, Patidar leaders demand FIR against Raj Thackeray over remarks on Sardar Patel, Morarji Desai
AHMEDABAD: The Congress, AAP and Patidar leaders in Gujarat have criticised Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) chief Raj Thackeray over his comments about Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel and former Prime Minister Morarji Desai. They have also demanded a ban on Thackeray's entry to Gujarat and an FIR against him. Addressing a rally in Maharashtra's Thane district on Friday, the MNS chief said when migrants from Bihar were "beaten up and driven away" in Gujarat, it did not become an issue, but a minor incident in Maharashtra became a national issue. He also referred to Morarji Desai and Sardar Patel's alleged anti-Marathi stand after independence. Over the past few weeks, MNS workers have been aggressively demanding that those living in Maharashtra learn Marathi. They have also assaulted a few shopkeepers for failing to respond in Marathi. Gujarat Congress' newly appointed president Amit Chavda on Sunday said making a statement against 'Sardar Saheb' was akin to throwing dust in front of the sun. 'If you do politics on the soil of Gujarat, you will get an answer,' he added. Aam Aadmi Party's state president Isudan Gadhvi said Gujaratis will never tolerate Thackeray's remarks. 'Your politics is not working, so you are insulting not only the Gujarati people but also the leader of the entire country, Sardar Patel,' he said. Gadhvi appealed to Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel and state BJP president CR Paatil to get an FIR registered against Thackeray. 'Sardar Patel united 565 princely states and created a united India. When Sardar Patel passed away, he had only Rs 261 in his account. Yet, some Maharashtra leaders are trying to further their political agenda by using derogatory language for such a great personality,' he said.
