Starbucks customer erupts in ‘angry' drive-thru rant after beloved promo gets axed

A Starbucks customer went on an 'angry' drive-thru tirade after learning the coffee chain was not offering specials for Nurses Week. The drive-thru employee explained the situation that occurred on May 6 in a Reddit post. According to the employee, the altercation began after they told the customer they were not offering specials for Nurses Week as they had done in previous years. 'She seemed confused and asked again, "So I can just order anything?" I reiterated that, yes, since we didn't have any Nurses Week promotions,' the worker wrote. 'I had to explain it three times, even apologizing by saying, "I'm so sorry about that."' The driver was apparently unhappy with the worker's answer and said she'd seen deals elsewhere. 'She said it was unfair, that nurses deal with so much, and mentioned how she had seen deals from other places online,' the employee continued. 'She kept going, clearly angry, and then ended by saying, "I hope you never have to go to the hospital and rely on nurses," before driving off, without giving me a chance to respond.' The aggressive tirade left the employee annoyed and confused over what happened. Wondering why the driver didn't go someplace else, the worker also wanted to know why the customer felt the need to 'yell at a minimum wage worker.' 'I work full time at a doctor's office and part time at Starbucks and I am in school to be a nurse, you are literally barking up the wrong tree,' the barista wrote. Several Reddit users sided with the worker. 'No one is entitled to free stuff because of a profession, no one,' a commenter wrote. 'Nurses who demand (complain?) about this are the types of nurses I don't want. Seems very high school mentality,' another person wrote. 'All of the "mean girls" from my high school became RN's so this checks out lmao,' another Reddit user added. A few commenters claiming to be nurses sent their sympathy to the employee, and insisted what the customer did was 'not okay.' Reddit users sided with the barista and other nurses showed sympathy toward the Starbucks employee A couple of Reddit users admitted to forgetting Starbucks had ever offered Nursing Week promotions in the past. The coffee chain hasn't offered special Nurses Week deals in the US for years. It comes as Starbucks has cut back on deals and promotions. The decision was one of multiple changes the company implemented as part of its turnaround plan. Other changes made over the past year include a major menu overhaul, a new employee dress code, and the requirement for guests to make purchases before using restrooms. Some of the changes have angered customers and baristas, many of whom have slammed CEO Brian Niccol online. The goal of the turnaround plan is to raise the struggling chain's profits while improving customer satisfaction.
