UAE weather: Temperatures to approach 50°C but more rain expected
UAE temperatures are set to approach 50°C on Tuesday, but more rain could be on the way to offer respite in a hot, hazy and humid summer season. The National Centre of Meteorology projects temperatures to peak at 49°C in Mezaira and Razeen, deep in the Abu Dhabi desert. The mercury will drop to 45°C in mainland Abu Dhabi and 43°C in Dubai during the day. For those seeking cooler climes during the sweltering summer, daytime temperatures will fall to as low as 35°C in Fujairah, aided by cloudy skies. The NCM – in its latest five-day bulletin – said there could be further rain in eastern and southern parts of the country by Tuesday afternoon. The projection comes after Al Ain and parts of Dubai were lashed by heavy rain on Monday night, prompting a safety alert from the weather centre. The UAE has also experienced a sustained spell of dusty conditions in recent days, with residents waking up to hazy skies which have reduced visibility on roads. Unstable weather The NCM predicts more dust and fog to sweep the country for the rest of the week, with temperatures and humidity to remain high. A scorching weekend is also in store, with temperatures expected to hit 49°C in Abu Dhabi and 47°C in Dubai, the NCM said.

The United States Geological Survey (USGS) said the alert was issued earlier Sunday after the quakes were detected near the Russian Pacific coast. Live Events USGS' tectonic summary of the earthquakes USGS' tectonic summary from its website states cause of earthquake as: The July 20, 2025, M7.4 earthquake east of Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky, Russia, occurred as the result of reverse faulting at a depth of about 20 km. At the location of this earthquake, the Pacific plate is moving west-northwest with respect to the North America plate at about 77 mm/yr. Note, the North American plate extends westward beyond the North American continent. The earthquake's location and sense of motion is consistent with the faulting on the subduction zone plate interface of the Kuril-Kamchatka Arc. While commonly plotted as points on maps, earthquakes of this size are more appropriately described as slip over a larger fault area. Reverse faulting events of the size of the July 20, 2025, earthquake are typically about 60 km by 35 km in size (length x width). The Kuril-Kamchatka arc has frequent moderate-to-large earthquakes and has hosted 29 additional M 6.5+ events within 250 km of the July 20, 2025, earthquake over the preceding century. The July 20, 2025, earthquake is located roughly 73 km northeast of the 1952 M 9.0 Kamchatka earthquake , which resulted in a destructive, Pacific-wide tsunami.

Kia chooses CATL to power domestic EV5
Kia Corporation has decided to use batteries produced by Chinese manufacturer Contemporary Amperex Technology Company Ltd (CATL) for the domestic version of its new EV5 battery electric vehicle (BEV), according to local reports citing industry sources. Earlier this month, the South Korean automaker unveiled images of the domestic version of the new EV5 SUV ahead of its planned launch in its domestic market in September. The model, based on its parent company Hyundai Motor Group's Electric-Global Modular Platform (E-GMP), will join an expanding range of Kia battery-powered vehicles, which includes the EV3, EV4, EV6, EV9, and the PV5 minibus/van. Switch Auto Insurance and Save Today! Great Rates and Award-Winning Service Affordable Auto Insurance, Customized for You The Insurance Savings You Expect According to the sources, Kia has decided to use CATL's nickel cobalt manganese (NCM) batteries for the domestic version of the model, to be produced at the Kia Autoland Gwangju plant, rather than BYD's cheaper lithium iron phosphate (LFP) batteries, which are used in the EV5s already produced and sold in China. The sources claim that CATL's NCM batteries, which are said to be cheaper than the equivalents produced by South Korea's top three battery manufacturers, were seen as more suitable for the South Korean market. Kia already uses CATL's NCM batteries in its Niro EV, Ray EV, and PV5. Domestic suppliers such as LG Energy Solution, Samsung SDI, and SK On have stepped up their overseas expansion due to rising competition from the Chinese and are also accelerating the introduction of cheaper LFP batteries. "Kia chooses CATL to power domestic EV5" was originally created and published by Just Auto, a GlobalData owned brand.
