Former WWE Champion Is Rumored to Play a Major Big-Screen Gaming Series Character
Image via WWE On June 30th this past weekend, Cody Rhodes turned 40 and entered a stage where professional wrestlers start contemplating their future beyond the ring. After all, a career spent between the ropes cannot go on forever. And it seems that the former WWE Undisputed Champion has seemingly found his calling. And to top it off, it involves the bright lights of Hollywood. As first broken by Nexus Point News, Rhodes is rumored to don the role of Guile in the live-action reboot of the legendary Street Fighter. A fighting game series, it was first released in 1987 and focuses on a global fighting tournament organised by the leader of the evil organisation, Shadaloo. Cody Rhodes Can Join Roman Reigns as Part of the New Street Fighter Reboot Last played by the iconic Jean-Claude Van Damme in the 1994 adaptation of the film, Guile is a U.S. Air Force pilot famous for his military prowess and 'Sonic Boom', and interestingly dons a blonde hairstyle similar to Dusty Rhodes's baby boy. Although the character was not featured in 2009's Street Fighter: The Legend of Chun-Li, he has been a fan favorite since his debut in 1999's Street Fighter II. This is not the first time Rhodes has appeared on the big screen. As an actor, he made his debut in Syfy's Warehouse 13 and later had a role on CW's Arrow as Derek Sampson, a drug dealer who terrorized Star City. 'The American Nightmare' will next be seen in 'The Naked Gun', which debuts on August 1. Moreover, Rhodes' former archnemesis, Roman Reigns, is already set to play the role of Akuma, who is also a mainstay in the series. If the rumors are true, then fans can very well see the reunion of two of the biggest stars the WWE has to offer today. Filming is scheduled to start in August 2025 in Australia and is produced by Legendary Pictures in collaboration with the series' creator, Capcom. Apart from Rhodes, the reboot will feature prominent stars like Jason Momoa (Blanka), Andrew Koji (Ryu), 50 Cent (Balrog), with David Dastmalchian playing It will be interesting to see if Rhodes can follow in the footsteps of legendary WWE wrestlers becoming Hollywood mainstays like The Rock, John Cena, and Dave Batista. Rapper 50 Cent Seemingly Confirms 'Street Fighter' Casting
Based on facts, either observed and verified firsthand by the reporter, or reported and verified from knowledgeable sources. Newsweek AI is in beta. Translations may contain inaccuracies—please refer to the original content. Entertainment gossip and news from Newsweek's network of contributors Rapper Curtis "50 Cent" Jackson has seemingly confirmed a report that he's in talks to star in the upcoming "Street Fighter" reboot. If true, Jackson will potentially play the boxer Balrog. Nexus Point News was the first site to report that Jackson was in talks to play Balrog, and not long after their report, Jackson took to social media platform X to respond. Curtis '50 Cent' Jackson attends the Grand Opening of the brand new Planet Hollywood NYC hosted by Robert Earl, Alec & Hilaria Baldwin, Curtis '50 Cent' Jackson, and Boy George on March 11, 2025 in New York City. Morefor Planet Hollywood If the report is true, then Jackson won't be playing one of the good guys. First appearing in 1991's "Street Fighter II: The World Warrior", Balrog is one of the fighters on the side of M. Bison's malevolent organization, Shadaloo. Balrog is a boxer from Las Vegas whose star was once on the rise, but he wound up in disgrace after his ambitions led him to cheat and even to kill some of his opponents in the ring. The news of Jackson's potential casting is the second casting story to emerge about "Street Fighter" in as many days. Yesterday, we learned that "Presence" star Callina Liang had joined the cast as martial arts expert and Interpol agent Chun-Li. The cast list of the "Street Fighter" reboot continues to grow, with perhaps the biggest name attached so far that of Jason Momoa. It's also been reported that Andrew Koji, Noah Centineo, Roman Reigns, and Orville Peck will star in the film. Nexus Point News reports that Momoa is playing the monstrous Blanka, Centineo is Ken, Koji is Ryu, Reigns plays Akuma, and Peck will play Vega. The "Street Fighter" reboot is being directed by Kitao Sakurai, and the latest draft of the script was written by Dalan Musson, who co-wrote "Captain America: Brave New World". There's no word yet on producers. The "Street Fighter" games first launched in 1987, and numerous sequels and spinoffs followed. The games usually revolve around a global fighting competition organized by the villainous M. Bison. Steven E. de Souza wrote and directed the first live-action "Street Fighter" film that hit theaters in 1994. It starred Ming-Na Wen, Jean-Claude Van Damme, Raul Julia, and Wes Studi among others. Mark Ruffalo and Michael Mando Allegedly Joining Spider-Man: Brand New Day
Tom Holland's Spider-Man movies have always had an Avenger-level guest star with the films running through Tony Stark, Nick Fury, and lately Doctor Strange. Now with Brand New Day incoming, it's no surprise that another Avenger has signed on for a 'substantial role'. Apparently Nexus Point News is saying that Mark Ruffalo is set to make an appearance as the Hulk/Bruce Banner in Spider-Man: Brand New Day . It's said that his role will be 'much larger than a cameo', so it's possible that he could be Spider-Man's in back to the good graces of Earth's Mightiest Heroes. We don't know exactly which bonds Peter had decided to salvage after the events of No Way Home , but we know that he's going to be staying away from his remaining loved ones in order to keep them safe. At best, he probably reintroduced himself to Doctor Strange, but everyone else does remember who Spider-Man is; it's Peter Parker nobody knows anymore. As for Hulk, his last major appearance was in the series She-Hulk: Attorney at Law where it's revealed that he has a son. Marvel never pulled on that thread for years , but maybe we'll finally get to see where that goes before the events of Avengers: Doomsday. Besides Ruffalo, it's also said that Michael Mando is also in talks to make a return as Scorpion/Mac Gargan. His last appearance had him getting seriously injured by Peter, and it wouldn't be surprising if he comes back in a bit role as a thug with some upgraded tech, ready to clash with Spider-Man. Then again, this is just speculation for now. The way Marvel works, we don't know how much they're willing to suddenly change behind-the-scenes. Spider-Man: Brand New Day is set to come out in theaters on July 31, 2026.

Mark Ruffalo to reprise his role as Bruce Banner bringing Hulk to Spider-Man: Brand New Day: Reports
Mark Ruffalo is set to return as Bruce Banner in Spider-Man: Brand New Day, according to exclusive reports from Nexus Point News. The actor's yet to be confirmed return, marks his tenth appearance in a mainline Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) project. While the details of his character's role in the upcoming film remain under wraps, it's confirmed that Ruffalo will play a significant part, far beyond a mere cameo. It's still unclear whether Banner will transform into his green alter ego, the Hulk, or remain in his Professor Hulk form, but his role will likely provide mentorship to Spider-Man's Peter Parker. Ruffalo's last portrayal of Banner was in the Disney+ series She-Hulk: Attorney at Law, where his character was involved in a storyline that saw his cousin, Jennifer Walters, transform into She-Hulk after being exposed to his blood. Banner, still in his Professor Hulk persona, helped Walters control her powers, and later appeared with his son Skaar in the series finale. Spider-Man: Brand New Day will be the fourth film in the MCU's Spider-Man series, directed by Destin Daniel Cretton (Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings), with a script by Chris McKenna and Erik Sommers. Tom Holland will reprise his role as Spider-Man, with Zendaya and Jacob Batalon returning in supporting roles. Michael Mando is also reportedly in talks to return as Mac Gargan. The film, set to be released on July 31, 2026, will begin filming in late July in London, with production expected to wrap in the Fall. Spider-Man: Brand New Day is part of Phase 6 of the MCU and will follow Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars.

Netflix's 'Assassin's Creed' Live-Action Series Gains Momentum With Multiple Veteran Writers
Netflix's live-action TV adaptation of Ubisoft's flagship game series, Assassin's Creed , has finally received its first substantial update five years after its initial announcement in 2020, with the project tapping multiple veteran writers and set for debut during the upcoming 2025-2026 TV season. As reported by Nexus Point News, the project's writers' room will encompass a team of experienced writers and producers such as Emily St John Mandel ( Station Eleven ), Sam Reynolds ( The Walking Dead: World Beyond ), Tom Hemmings ( Halo ), Jaquén Castellanos ( Good American Family ), Claire Kiechel ( Watchmen ) and Sanaz Toossi ( A League of Their Own ). The series will be helmed by Roberto Patino ( Westworld ) and David Wiener ( Halo ), taking over the reins from Vikings: Valhalla creator Jeb Stuart, who left the project in 2023. Assassins Creed (2016) This project isn't the first time the popular gaming franchise has seen a live-action adaptation, previously receiving a 2016 feature film of the same name by 20th Century Studios, which was directed by Justin Kurzel and starred Michael Fassbender ( X-Men: First Class, Prometheus ). Unfortunately, the movie failed to capture the essence of the beloved franchise and received poor reviews from critics and fans alike, so all eyes are on Netflix's latest attempt to see if they can create a live-action adaptation that's worthy of the Brotherhood. Apart from the reveal of its writing team, no official plot description for the show or any news on its cast has been revealed, and with the time it took to assemble its writers' room, it also remains unclear if the Assassin's Creed Netflix series will even hit its current 2025 to 2026 release window, so fans will just have to keep the faith and wait for more information to come as the year progresses.
