A security update fixed battery life? Some Galaxy S24 and Fold 5 users think so

Usually, new updates to older devices either bring no changes to battery life or even make it worse. Many people complained after receiving One UI 7 based on Android 15 that the update destroyed the battery life on their devices. Well, it seems Samsung may have decided to fix this issue. Now, some Galaxy S24 and Galaxy Z Fold 5 users have shared online that they are noticing lately that the battery life on their phones has improved after the June 2025 security update. A Galaxy Z Fold 5 user claims that the battery life on their phone improved dramatically – by 400%, which is pretty amazing, if true. Meanwhile, Galaxy S24 and Galaxy S24 + users are saying their battery life has also improved, albeit with not such a huge difference. The June 2025 security update was released earlier this month, and it started arriving to Galaxy S24 users two weeks ago for the international model and one week ago for the US models. The Galaxy Z Fold 5 received the update last week (both international and US models). However, sometimes these updates can improve the overall smoothness of a phone or even its power efficiency. But it's important to note that other Galaxy S24 and Z Fold 5 users are not reporting seeing improvements in battery life. One UI 7 is one big update and one that's been long-awaited. Its official release was delayed a few times and even started then stopped, then started again in some markets. Generally, many people were unsettled by the speed at which the significant update was delivered. When it finally arrived, some had to experience the battery life of their phone it's great that Samsung is addressing the issue. Meanwhile, something else is worth noting in this case as well. After a major One UI update, it's normal for Galaxy phones to experience increased battery drain for a few days. This happens as the system re-indexes files, updates apps, and re-optimizes background processes. Android also needs time to relearn usage patterns to manage power more efficiently. Performance and battery life typically stabilize within 2–5 days. So, it could have been the security update, but it also could have been just Android settling itself out. Got a Galaxy phone? Samsung says you should turn on these security features now!

Nick Fernandez / Android Authority TL;DR Samsung has advised Galaxy users to activate a set of security features to protect their phones in case of theft. Most of these features made their way to Samsung devices with the One UI 7 update. The company says more Galaxy devices will get these features in the future. Samsung is asking Galaxy users to activate a set of security features on their phones. The company says that because phone theft incidents are rising worldwide, all Galaxy users must have the company's anti-theft features enabled to protect their devices. With the release of its Android 15-based One UI 7 update, Samsung updated a bunch of theft protection and anti-robbery features on its phones. These include the following: Theft Detection Lock: This is essentially an Android feature, available on devices with Android 10 or higher. It uses AI to detect if someone has snatched your phone from your hand and tried to run, bike, or drive away with it. Your phone's screen will instantly lock if Theft Detection Lock is triggered, protecting it from unauthorized access. Offline Device Lock: Again, this is an Android feature and isn't Samsung-specific. Offline Device Lock automatically locks your screen to help protect your data even when your device is off the grid or in the wrong hands by detecting multiple failed authentication attempts. Remote Lock: Remote Lock is also part of the Android suite of security features and lets you lock your phone screen with your phone number and a quick security challenge using any device. To enable any of the above features, navigate to Settings > Security and privacy > Lost device protection > Theft protection. Moreover, Samsung is also encouraging users to activate Identity Check, which ensures that biometric authentication is completed to change important security settings when your device is outside of a trusted location. Head to Settings > Security and privacy > Lost device protection > Theft protection > Identity Check to enable the feature on your Samsung phone. You can then add your 'Safe places,' which are essentially locations where your biometrics won't be required to change sensitive information. Samsung also highlighted Security Delay in its blog post. The feature is part of Identity Check and initiates a one-hour waiting period if someone tries resetting your device's biometric data, turning off Identity Check, changing lock screen settings, turning off Find My, or editing your safe places. This gives you time to lock your phone remotely in case of theft. Samsung says these features are currently available on the following devices, with more Galaxy phones in line to get them in the near future: Galaxy S25 series Galaxy S24 series Galaxy Z Fold 6 Galaxy Z Flip 6 Galaxy Z Fold 5 Galaxy Z Flip 5 Galaxy S23 series Galaxy S22 series Have you activated these security features on your Galaxy devices, or have you ever had to use any of them? Let us know in the comments section.

Samsung Galaxy users warned to activate these security features before it's too late

As phone theft becomes more common around the world, Samsung is asking Galaxy users to turn on the newest anti-theft features now available on many of its devices. These updates, part of One UI 7, are designed to improve personal data protection in situations like robbery or loss. Samsung first launched these security updates with the Galaxy S25 series earlier this year, and they are now expanding to older models like the Galaxy S24 series, Z Fold 6, Z Flip 6, Z Fold 5, Z Flip 5, and the Galaxy S23 and S22 devices. Additionally, more Galaxy phones are expected to get them over time. A key feature in the new update is Theft Detection Lock, which uses motion detection to notice if a phone is snatched and then locks the screen right away. Offline Device Lock also helps by locking the screen if the phone has been offline for a while. Both features are meant to block access even if someone tries to disable the connection. Samsung's Remote Lock has also been updated. Users can lock their stolen phone by verifying their phone number and can then use Samsung's tools to recover their account and take further steps to secure it. There are also new protections for robbery situations. Identity Check adds extra security when someone tries to change settings in unfamiliar locations. If a thief knows the PIN, this tool still requires biometric verification. Another feature, Security Delay, adds a one-hour wait time before any changes to biometric data can be made. This gives users more time to respond if their phone is stolen. Auto Blocker is one of the many security features Samsung boasts about. | Image credit — Samsung Samsung also shared some tips in case your phone is lost or taken. You can use Samsung Find to lock or erase your device remotely. You can also display a message or contact number on the lock screen, but it's best not to share personal contact info. If your phone is connected to the internet, you can track its location, ring it, or turn on power saving to keep it alive longer. Galaxy Watches and other devices can also help find a missing phone or earbuds. These new tools will not stop theft entirely, but they give users more ways to protect their data and keep control of their accounts in difficult situations. It's good to see Samsung bringing light to this and providing updates on how these tools can protect their users. Secure your connection now at a bargain price!
