Protester dressed as 'tortured orca' chained to suitcases on Above Bar
Protesters have staged a demonstration outside the TUI store in Southampton in support of marine mammals and criticising 'notoriously cruel marine parks.' A campaigner from animal rights group People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) stood outside the TUI store in Above Bar Street on Monday afternoon, chained to suitcases, representing a tortured orca, that will 'never get the chance to travel,' said protestors. It comes as the travel company continues to sell tickets to the likes of SeaWorld, a marine mammal park in Florida. More than 120 UK companies, announcing they've stopped selling tickets to SeaWorld and other attractions featuring captive whales and dolphins. Speaking to the Echo, PETA campaigner, Grace Galopin, said 'the message behind the protest was incredibly important'. 'These poor animals are essentially imprisoned and forced to live in tiny tanks their whole life, they're put with incompatible mates, they're forced to perform tricks for tourists and their living conditions are just terrible. 'They should be out in the wild and free where they can display their own natural behaviour and not exploited for entertainment. Elsewhere in Lymington over the weekend a PETA campaigner served 'locally caught tabbies,' 'kitten cakes' and 'fresh local Siamese,' at the Lymington Seafood Festival, challenging the belief that some species are superior to others and more deserving of respect and kindness. 'Crabs and other marine animals feel pain and terror just as cats and dogs do,' said PETA senior campaigns manager, Kate Werner. She added: 'PETA urges anyone horrified by the thought of tucking into a tabby to extend that compassion to all animals and please, go vegan.' PETA, whose motto reads, in part, that 'animals are not ours to eat,' opposes speciesism, a human-supremacist worldview.

Coronation Street star faces backlash for riding a dolphin as animal rights charity criticises actress for 'promoting cruel industry'
Coronation Street star Cait Fitton has been criticised by PETA for riding a dolphin while on holiday in the Dominican Republic. The actress, 23, who joined the programme as troubled teen Lauren Bolton in 2022, has been enjoying a summer break with her boyfriend Ben. Taking to her Instagram Story during the trip, Cait shared snaps of a day out at Dolphin Island Park in Punta. One picture showed Cait appear to ride a dolphin as they swam with them, while in another she kissed its nose. 'Such a surreal experience. Pictures pending …. Swim with dolphins in the wild,' Cait captioned one of the snaps. But animal rights charity PETA urged Cait to take down the pictures - which are still on her page in a highlight for the trip - as they criticised the actress for 'promoting this cruel industry'. In a statement to The Sun, PETA's vice president of programmes Elisa Allen Vice said: 'PETA is rushing Cait a copy of The Cove, as she simply can't be aware that dolphins exploited for these cute-seeming encounters are often violently torn away from their families and ocean homes and have almost no semblance of a real life. 'Instead of exploring, raising their young, and swimming vast distances, captive dolphins are forced to spend decades performing confusing tricks in cramped tanks while being fondled by strangers. 'We hope PETA's facts will open her eyes to the dolphins' plight and that she'll take down any social media pictures promoting this cruel industry, which imprisons wild animals for profit.' MailOnline has contacted representatives for Cait for comment. In 2023, Cait revealed her childhood aspirations of being on the soap left her school teachers very amused. Recalling her childhood, Cait - who said she dreamed of starring on the show since being five-years-old - admitted how she thought 'it might never happen' but continued to works towards her goals. Cait told The Sun: 'When the teacher asked us, "What do you want to be when you're older?" I said, "I want to be in Coronation Street." 'I remember all the teachers were amused, they couldn't believe it. I wanted it so badly. 'Sometimes I'd despair and think it was never going to happen, but it just shows that if you fight and you work hard for your dreams, you can achieve.' She continued: 'It takes a lot of courage and drive to strive to be different and it takes even more courage to achieve and I'm super happy I stuck it out.' Coronation Street fans were left sick to their stomachs after an evil villain made an 'impossible' return against all odds during an episode of the ITV show last month. Lauren, played by Cait, couldn't believe her eyes when she thought that she'd seen Joel Deering (Calum Lill) - which makes no sense as he is dead. After viewers will know the evil solicitor was killed by Lauren back in September last year. The teen scared herself that much that she thought that 'Joel' was trying to take her baby Frankie away from her. 'I don't want to do this, give me Frankie please,' she told him, before shouting: 'Just give him to me Joel!' Lauren welcomed Frankie into the world after she fell pregnant with Joel's child after he groomed and abused her for many months. Lauren and Joel started to get close when he helped her with an arrest. He also helped her with any money that she needed, but she had to give something back in return - sex. But Lauren wanted to cut it off at one point and even threatened him that she would tell his girlfriend Dee-Dee Bailey (Channique Sterling-Brown). This led him to beating her up and she was left in a really bad way and absent from the Cobbles for half a year. When she returned to Weatherfield things got heated again and she ended up murdering Joel after he attacked her friend Max Turner (Paddy Bever).

Coronation Street star slammed over 'cruel' holiday photos - "Open your eyes!"
Coronation Street star Cait Fitton, known for her role as Lauren Bolton, has been on holiday with her boyfriend in the Dominican Republic Coronation Street star Cait Fitton was slammed by PETA after she shared a picture of herself swimming with a dolphin while on holiday. The 23-year-old soap star, who is best known for her role as Lauren Bolton on the long-running ITV soap, recently shared a few posts from her sunny holiday in the Dominican Republic. In one picture shared online, Cait was seen laughing with joy as she appeared to ride a dolphin in the ocean. In one snap taken outside Dolphin Island Park in Punta Cana, the soap star wrote: "Such a surreal experience. Pictures pending …. Swim with dolphins in the wild.' She also kissed a dolphin in one picture shared on her page. What she thought was a wholesome post received criticism from animal rights charity PETA. They released a statement saying: "PETA is rushing Cait a copy of The Cove, as she simply can't be aware that dolphins exploited for these cute-seeming encounters are often violently torn away from their families and ocean homes and have almost no semblance of a real life. "Instead of exploring, raising their young, and swimming vast distances, captive dolphins are forced to spend decades performing confusing tricks in cramped tanks while being fondled by strangers. "We hope PETA's facts will open her eyes to the dolphins' plight and that she'll take down any social media pictures promoting this cruel industry, which imprisons wild animals for profit.' The Mirror have reached out to Cait's representatives for comment. Cait's holiday snaps comes a few weeks after she went Instagram official with her new boyfriend. She teased her new partner for several weeks, telling fans her "boyfriend" had bought her a Jellycat toy. And at the end of June, she took her new romance to the next level, having shared a photo on her story showing some silver '23' balloons, as well as a photo of what appears to be her boyfriend. She sweetly wrote: "A day celebrating you," following her message with a white loveheart emoji. Her previous story post showed a collage of images of her with her partner, with Cait writing: "Happy birthday to my man." She added: "Thank you for blessing my life." The snaps showed them posing for a selfie, as well as a fun photo of them glammed up posing together. Another photo showed them holding hands, but she's still not named her new partner. Cait previously discussed the difficulties of fame, telling the Mirror: "It's taken me a long time to have thick skin, it's not an overnight process. "We are normal people outside of filming, but everyone sees the characters as actual people. That can be really hard, especially with Lauren, who is a complex character."
