‘Load Up,' Says Jefferies About Nintendo Stock

Nintendo (TYO:7974) shares have been hitting fresh highs in recent weeks with investors' enthusiasm mirroring the success of the company's' newly released Switch 2. Confident Investing Starts Here: Released in early June, the new console has quickly taken the gaming world by storm, with 3.5 million units sold in just four days, making it the fastest-selling console in the company's history. Investor enthusiasm has followed suit, driving the stock up 40% year-to-date. That milestone didn't just break internal records, it set a new global benchmark. For comparison, the original Switch sold 2.74 million units in its first full month, the PS4 hit 2.1 million in two weeks, and the PS5 moved 3.4 million units in its debut month. Such momentum is setting the stage for long-term growth, according to Jefferies analyst Atul Goyal. 'The NS2 trajectory is shaping up to be meaningfully above that of Switch and bodes well for profit growth for the years ahead,' the 5-star analyst said. In light of the early strong performance, Goyal has revised his cumulative sales forecast for the Switch 2, raising it from 66 million to 69 million units over the next three fiscal years ending March 2028. His new annual projections call for 18 million, 23 million, and 28 million units, respectively – numbers that already seem well within reach, considering Nintendo has achieved 20% of the FY3/26 target in less than a week. That early success is no accident. The Switch 2 builds on the legacy of the original 2017 console, but comes with broader anticipation and tighter execution. Reports of long lines and rapid sellouts have emerged worldwide, though Nintendo's decision to stockpile inventory ahead of the U.S. launch helped mitigate supply shortfalls. 'This should bode very well for earnings growth,' says Goyal. 'A higher install-base combined with strong game pipeline is likely to drive earnings growth much higher than the pace and magnitude of Switch.' Nintendo has also unveiled Splatoon Raiders, a new Splatoon spin-off and the franchise's first-ever spin-off title, which will be available exclusively on the Switch 2. That further strengthens what is already an 'incredibly strong' first-party lineup this year with Goyal believing the tie-ratio – meaning the average number of games purchased per console – probably 'has the making of a big upward surprise.' Taking all this into account, Goyal rates Nintendo shares a Buy with a ¥20,780 ($142.85) price target, implying a 53% upside over the next year. (To watch Goyal's track record, click here) Elsewhere on the Street, Nintendo stock claims an additional 6 Buys, 2 Holds and 1 Sell, for a Moderate Buy consensus rating. However, the ¥13,367.81 ($91.9) average price target implies the shares will stay rangebound for the time being. Diablo 4 Is Free For PS Plus Subscribers In July As Sony Hints At Upcoming Price Hike

The demon-slaying, action-RPG Diablo 4 is coming to PS Plus Essential in July after celebrating its two-year anniversary. It arrives just in time for PlayStation 5 and PS4 players to delve into next month's free Sins of the Horadrim season 9 update, and as Sony hints at a possible future price hike for the subscription service. Free is a nice price for PS Plus subscribers to experience Diablo 4's grimly fun main campaign, with a streamlined seasonal level grind and the paid Vessel of Hatred expansion for anyone interested in sticking around after the main story wraps. Season 9 adds a new questline, micro-dungeons called Horadric Strongrooms, Escalating Nightmares that chain together three dungeons for a shot at fighting the Exalted version of Mephisto acolyte Astarothnew, a new spellcrafting system, and mouse and keyboard support on console. Also arriving to PS Plus on July 1 is The King of Fighters XV (PS5 and PS4) and French climbing puzzle adventure Jusant (just PS5). The latter was one of 2023's late but great indie releases that mixes the cinematic moodiness of something like Ico with a movement system influenced by GIRP. To mark 15 years since PS Plus launched, Sony is also wrapping up June with some special deals for subscribers, as well as new perks like an extended free trial of Monster Hunter Wilds for Premium members. I love how Sony talks about PS Plus with great fanfare but won't post subscriber this data, I was able to use cross-reference PS Plus sub counts with MAUs to get a rough idea of the proportion of PlayStation monthly users who actually subscribe to Plus. — Derek Strickland (@DeekeTweak) June 25, 2025 PS Plus has had some decent months this year, which might be why a price hike feels like it's coming just over the horizon. PlayStation CEO Hideaki Nishino recently remarked that players kept signing up for more expensive tiers even after the last round of increases. 'The PlayStation Plus service offers great value for our players, and we will continue to add more value and adjust our pricing strategy in a dynamic way to maximize profitability,' he told investors earlier this month. Ever wonder what the most popular games on the service are? Sony recently disclosed the top 10 in no particular order to Game File. They are mostly single-player games, including four first-party Sony blockbusters: God of War Ragnarök, Ghost of Tsushima, Marvel's Spider-Man: Miles Morales, and The Last of Us Part I. Others include Hogwarts Legacy and Star Wars Jedi: Survivor, alongside no-brainers like Grand Theft Auto V. Less obvious top-performers are Dead by Daylight, Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six Siege, and UFC 5. PlayStation's global services VP Nick Maguire told Game File the company remains committed to bringing its big first-party games to PS Plus no earlier than 18 to 24 months after they comes out. Instead, it's been wooing subscribers to upgrade to the priciest tier with PS1 and PS2 classics, while streaming for PS3 games has been rarer. 'Through streaming, we'll still continue to look at those ones,' he said. 'We haven't ruled them out. The opportunities are there. But there are a lot of PS3 games already streaming.' . PS Plus Monthly games for July include Diablo 4 and Jusant

Sony has revealed the PS Plus Monthly games for July as the subscription service is about to reach its 15th anniversary. Between July 1 and August 4, members on all tiers will be able to add Diablo IV (PS5 and PS4), The King of Fighters XV (PS5 and PS4) and Jusant (PS5 only) to their collection. The monthly games for June — NBA 2K25, Alone in the Dark (2024), Bomb Rush Cyberfunk and Destiny 2: The Final Shape — are available to claim until July 1. Diablo IV is the clear headliner this time around. The 2023 action RPG from Blizzard is just about to get a big update too , including the expansion of endgame dungeons and the addition of keyboard and mouse support on consoles. Don't Nod's Jusant is a really lovely, narrative-based climbing game, a fairly relaxing way to spend a few hours . SNK's The King of Fighters XV, meanwhile, retains the series' 3 vs. 3 tag fighting format and it includes rollback netcode to minimize lag while playing online. Meanwhile, June 29 marks the 15th anniversary of PS Plus. Sony is marking the occasion by offering free multiplayer to non subscribers this weekend, adding a couple of game trials ( WWE 2K25 and Monster Hunter Wilds ) for Premium members and offering discounts on games and Sony Pictures Core movies. The company says that, throughout the lifespan of PS Plus, it has made more than 500 monthly games available for subscribers to keep in their collection as long as they maintain their membership. Sony still isn't sharing PS Plus subscriber numbers, though it told Game File that the Premium tier has grown by 18 percent over the last year. Sony Interactive Entertainment CEO Hideaki Nishino recently said that PS Plus price increases are "partly a result of increasing value we bring to the players" and that they hadn't slowed down subscriptions. The company still has no plans to offer its own games on the service on their release date, unlike Xbox does with Game Pass, though it will continue to add some third-party games to PS Plus on day one.
