Xiaomi announces Redmi 15 5G with 7,000mAh battery, India launch set for August 19
Xiaomi has announced its next budget Redmi phone for India. It is called the Redmi 15 5G (not Redmi 14, as you'd probably think) and it is sequel to the Redmi 13 from last year. The phone in question packs a bunch of quality-of-life upgrades over its predecessor including a super-massive 7,000mAh battery and Qualcomm Snapdragon 6s Gen 3 chip. Xiaomi will formally launch the phone on August 19. The product listing page for the Redmi 15 5G confirms almost all its specs ahead of launch leaving little to the imagination. Easily the biggest draw is that it features a large 7,000mAh battery. It is based on Silicon-Carbon technology. Xiaomi is going so far as to say that both these features are a segment-first without giving away any pricing information. You can expect it to be priced around Rs 15,000 however looking at the launch price of the Redmi 13 – but we'll see. The battery is rated to deliver 12.75 hours of BGMI and 23.5 hours of YouTube playback. Without mentioning the exact charging speed, Xiaomi has also announced that the Redmi 15 5G supports 18W reverse charging which is to say that you can use it as a portable power bank to charge other devices. Xiaomi is also claiming that the Redmi 15 5G is the 'slimmest' 7,000mAh battery smartphone. The design has been fully revealed at the same time. It is a stark departure from the Redmi 13 with the biggest changing coming by way of a revamped camera deco which is apparently made of aerospace-grade metal. The rest of the phone appears to be made of polycarbonate. It is set to arrive in a choice of three colours: midnight black, frosted black, and sandy purple. Flip over to the front and you'll find a tall 6.9-inch display with whopping 144Hz refresh rate. Xiaomi says it is the segment's most eye-safe display. Under the hood, the Redmi 15 5G has Qualcomm's Snapdragon 6s Gen 3 processor and Xiaomi Hyper OS 2.0 software. Rounding off the package is a 50-megapixel dual AI camera. The Redmi 15 5G announcement comes hot on the heels of Xiaomi launching the Redmi Note 14 SE 5G in India. The Redmi Note 14 SE is essentially a Redmi Note 14 without a charger in the box which is to say that it is also cheaper with the 6GB/128GB model priced at Rs 14,999.- Ends
