FRISCO (SILVER STAR NATION) — The Dallas Cowboys used the first of two picks in Round 5 of the 2025 NFL Draft to add an explosive player from the University of Texas.

With the 149th overall pick in the fifth round of the 2025 NFL Draft, the Dallas Cowboys selected Jaydon Blue, a running back from the University of Texas.

In his three years with the Longhorns, Blue was part of a running back committee that included current NFL running backs Bijan Robinson and Jonathon Brooks during his first two seasons. Once they were drafted, Blue's role greatly increased.
SILVER STAR NATION: Cowboys take top offensive guard in Round 1 of 2025 NFL Draft
Blue is an explosive runner who can make defenders miss. Once he's in the open field, he hits a higher gear. He was responsible for three plays of 45 yards or more in his final season in Austin. He excels as a pass catcher out of the backfield and has no problem getting open against defenders. Once the ball is in his hands, he's dangerous.
While the talent is undeniable, the obvious knock against Blue is his size. He's smaller than the average NFL running back. He also struggles with consistency. He's not the most patient back, and he had issues securing the football, recording five fumbles in 2024 alone.
Blue isn't an every-down running back, and he'll need to prove that he can put in the work to become an NFL player, but he's a dynamic playmaker and a touchdown threat anytime the ball is in his hands.
