Rs 830000000000: Pakistan's close ally to export 48 fifth-generation fighter jets to Indonesia; top features are..., country is...
In its republic's history, Turkey signed its largest defense export deal with Indonesia for 48 KAAN fifth-generation fighter jets on Saturday during the 17th International Defense Industry Fair (IDEF 2025), reported Türkiye Today. This transformative agreement represents a major advance for Turkey's domestic combat aircraft program. A number of high-profile officials attended the signing ceremony. They were Haluk Görgün, head of the Turkish Presidency of Defense Industries (SSB); Indonesian Defense Minister Sjafrie Sjamsoeddin; TAI Board Chairman Ömer Cihad Vardan; Suay Alpay, Deputy National Defense Minister and TAI Vice Chairman; and TAI General Manager Mehmet Demiroğlu. Financial terms have not been formally revealed, but the Turkish media reports suggest the value of the contract is around $10 billion. At $10 billion, this defense deal is significant for bilateral defense collaboration. On June 11, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan announced Turkey's plan to export 48 KAAN jets to Indonesia. The signing now makes the agreement formal and represents Turkey's first official export deal for its indigenous fifth-generation fighter jet. Sharing a post on X(previously Twitter), SSB wrote,' On 11 June 2025, we signed the Government-to-Government (G2G) Procurement Agreement with the Indonesian Ministry of Defence for cooperation on a total of 48 KAAN National Combat Aircraft. Today, we have officially signed the commercial contract defining the details and technical annexes of this agreement.' 'This signature is not merely an export milestone—it marks the beginning of a new era in engineering, production, and technology sharing. The local industrial base to be established in Indonesia will stand as a field-proven reflection of our deep-rooted strategic partnership built on friendship,' the post further reads. The contract stipulates a maximum delivery window of 120 months (10 years), signifying a significant production obligation on TAI and the Turkish aerospace sector as a whole. This contract is the first large scale international export deal for the KAAN program, reflecting strong international confidence in Turkey's fifth-generation fighter jet—only a little over a year after its first flight. The plane is armed with the indigenous MURAD AESA radar, internal weapons bays, supercruise capability, and is compatible with fully indigenous munitions. Its advanced technology includes a low radar cross-section and reduced heat signature, making it one of the most advanced fighter platforms in the world, in its class. The KAAN is a fifth generation fighter aircraft being developed by Turkey for more than a decade. It was first publicly launched in 2023 and completed its first test flight in 2024. The serial production of the jet is expected to begin in 2028. Turkey has built three prototypes of the KAAN jet so far. The KAAN fighter jet has been designed to execute multi-role air combat capabilities focusing on air superiority, precision strikes, and survivability amongst others. The fighter or 'KAAN' is being developed as part of Turkish President Recep Erdoğan's effort to ramp up internal aerospace production.
