Man who allegedly shot at deputies in Napa County arrested after 7-hour standoff

A man who allegedly shot at deputies in Napa County during a seven-hour standoff in the community of Angwin was arrested early Friday morning, the Sheriff's Office said. The incident began Thursday at about 8:45 p.m. on Tobin Avenue, west of White Cottage Road N. and north of Keyes Avenue. The Sheriff's Office said deputies responded to a report of a domestic disturbance at the home; before they arrived, a fight happened between residents, and someone shot a gun inside the home. Witnesses told deputies that 54-year-old Angwin resident Luis Armando Alvarado discharged the firearm inside the home. Everyone inside the home escaped safely while Alvarado remained barricaded inside, the Sheriff's Office said. Luis Armando Alvarado Napa County Sheriff's Office During the negotiations to resolve the standoff, Alvarado fired multiple rounds at deputies positioned on the perimeter of the house, the office said. A sheriff's SWAT team, crisis negotiators, and officers with the Napa and St. Helena Police Departments also responded to the scene. Other nearby residents were evacuated out of an abundance of caution while the standoff continued for some seven hours. Eventually, SWAT officers shot less-than-lethal munitions into the residence, and Alvarado was taken into custody at about 4 a.m. Friday. Alvarado was booked into the Napa County Department of Corrections on charges of attempted murder and assault with a deadly weapon. The Sheriff's Office said there were no injuries to officers or residents.

WATCH: SWAT arrests Kettering man while investigating missing person case

Jun. 26—Kettering police released body camera footage of a man being arrested following an hours-long SWAT standoff earlier this week. The footage shows SWAT and Kettering police inside a Mini Court home arresting Shane J. Smith. Detectives found human remains while searching the property. Investigators had a warrant to search Smith's home in connection to a missing woman, Nicole Slusser, according to Kettering police. Smith also had a warrant for a separate domestic violence case. Slusser was reported as missing to Kettering police on June 2, but there was not enough evidence to confirm she was missing, police said. A week later, police received additional information and entered the 40-year-old woman as missing. Smith is Slusser's ex-boyfriend. Her family hasn't spoken to her since December, but potential witnesses said they man have seen Slusser as recently as April, according to police. Kettering Regional SWAT and Kettering police went to serve the warrants on Mini Court around 8 a.m. Tuesday. Three people exited the house and confirmed Smith was inside, Kettering police Chief Christopher Protsman said. "The SWAT team tried many tactics to have him exit, but he refused, and they used drones to search for him inside," he said. "After several hours, the Dayton SWAT team was called in to assist and other tactics were used, including introducing chemical munitions into the home." A secondary search around 6 p.m. showed Smith was hiding in a closet. Detectives took Smith into custody. He was initially transported to the hospital before being booked into the Montgomery County Jail Friday afternoon. Protsman said there were hoarding conditions in the house, making it difficult to find Smith. While searching the property Wednesday morning, detectives found possible human remains in the backyard. The Montgomery County Coroner's Office responded and confirmed the remains were human. The identity is unknown as of Friday. The residence has a history of domestic violence Protsman said. The city's Planning and Development Department has also responded to the address. Smith was charged strangulation and obstructing official business charges in Kettering Municipal Court. A grand jury declined to indict Smith for strangulation and the municipal court case was dismissed. He was indicted with two counts of having weapons while under disability and one count of aggravated possession of drugs after a firearm, fentanyl and methamphetamine was reportedly found in the house.

Philadelphia SWAT units surround home after suspect shoots man outside Tacony 7-Eleven

SWAT units surrounded a home in the Tacony section of Northeast Philadelphia on Thursday searching for a suspect in connection with a fatal shooting at a nearby 7-Eleven. Before 9 a.m., images from Chopper 3 showed an armored vehicle and multiple SWAT officers in body armor in the area of Keystone Street and Longshore Avenue. Hours earlier around 7:07 a.m., officers responded to the 7-Eleven store on the 6900 block of Torresdale Avenue. A man had been shot in the head there and was pronounced dead on the scene by medics at 7:15 a.m., police said. Chopper 3/CBS News Philadelphia Around 7:44 a.m., officers were called to the 7000 block of Tulip Street, a few blocks away, investigating the presence of a man who may be the shooter wanted in the 7-Eleven shooting. Several police vehicles were at the store Thursday morning and the parking lot was cordoned off with yellow police tape. A witness, Chris Mullins, said the shooting stemmed from a fight inside the store. "The guy opened the door coming out, and they started yelling and screaming. Then they turned around and went back in, and started fighting. One thing led to another... he shot him towards the back of the store," Mullins said. This is a developing story and will be updated.

Robbery suspect surrenders in Rancho Cordova after hours-long standoff

A robbery suspect has been detained after a four-hour standoff in Rancho Cordova overnight. The Sacramento County Sheriff's Office says they started investigating a robbery around 8:30 p.m. Monday. Deputies located that robbery suspect at a home along Moraine Circle in Rancho Cordova just before midnight. The home was surrounded and a standoff began. At one point, the sheriff's office says the suspect opened the garage and came out with a gun, then went back inside. Drones, K9s, and a SWAT team were deployed to deal with the suspect. Nearby residences were also asked to evacuate during the situation. The sheriff's office noted that the suspect was well-known to law enforcement, with the person already having an outstanding warrant for another robbery case. Early Tuesday morning, negotiators were able to convince the suspect to surrender peacefully. The name of the suspect has not been released at this point in the investigation.
