Koenigsegg's New Hypercar Broke a Goodwood Speed Record

Koenigsegg's most radical hypercar ever, which the company unveiled just a few weeks ago, has already set a record. During this weekend's Goodwood Festival of Speed , the Sadair's Spear became the fastest road-legal production car to conquer the famous hillclimb. It completed the course in just 47.14 seconds, beating the previous record holder, the Czinger 21C , by 1.68 seconds. The Czinger set its record last year, snatching it from the Rimac Nevera that ran the course in 49.32 seconds in 2023. The Sadair's Spear is an even more hardcore version of the Jesko Attack . It uses the same twin-turbocharged 5.0-liter V-8 engine, but it can make up to 1,625 horsepower. It's also 77 pounds lighter, too, weighing 2,910 pounds dry. Despite Koenigsegg's concern about the car's weight, it still features wireless phone charging. Michelin Pilot Cup 2 tires are standard, measuring 275/35/20 at the front and 335/30/21 at the rear. Buyers can also upgrade to stickier Cup 2 R rubber. The car features revised aerodynamics that help improve downforce at lower speeds and the airflow to the engine and cooling systems, which the car appears to have taken full advantage of in its Goodwood run. It revealed the car to potential customers behind closed doors, selling out "instantly," so your chances of buying one are already gone. Maybe next time. The Newest Koenigsegg Turns The Jesko Into a Track Beast: Here's What Changed

Sadair's Spear may be a dressed-up Jesko, but the details make all the difference The newest Koenigsegg model, dubbed Sadair's Spear, is actually heavily based on an existing model: the Jesko. Specifically, the Jesko Attack, the most all-out version of the car. Looking at the two side by side, the differences might not immediately jump out and grab you, but rest assured, there are plenty of subtle and not-so-subtle tweaks. In pursuit of quicker lap times and an even more uncompromising representation of performance, Christian von Koenigsegg has turned the former leader of Ghost Squadron into an even more impressive machine. Here's everything the mad Swede did to build the Jesko's logical — and peerless — evolution. Previous Pause Next Unmute 0:00 / 0:09 Full screen 2024 Kia EV6 GT-Line review: Is this the EV that will convert you? Watch More Dress for the occasion; the Sadair's Spear dons more appropriate exterior details In the front, the Sadair's Spear expands on the Jesko's carbon aero bits but stays close to the original design. The front flicks are more prominent, and the wheel arch louvres are redesigned, looking just a little bit more aggressive. Behind the driver, there are small tweaks to the Jesko's trademark double-blade rear wing, a high-mounted third brake light, and a new undertray design. The rear bumper is also different, now better showcasing the car's cooling system. According to Koenigsegg, the Sadair's Spear offers improved oil cooling capabilities for longer stints on the track in high-temp conditions, and the carbon fiber diffuser now wraps all the way around the rear bumper. Across the side, near the rear air intakes, spear-shaped elements commemorate the car's namesake. Finally, those seven-spoke carbon fiber wheels are unique to the Sadair's Spear. An interior befitting a $5 million price tag While the changes on the outside are important, but maybe not immediately obvious, the interior keeps things even more subtle. Most obvious are the racing seats with optional six-point harnesses and removal of the gear lever. That latter change means using paddle shifters is the only way to pilot the Spear. Past that, we kind of have to take Koenigsegg's word for it. They say Sadair's Spear features a 'bespoke interior styling' that is completely unique to the car. You won't have to look as hard to find performance improvements, though. Koenigsegg modified the car's air intakes to gain 20 horsepower or 25 horsepower, depending on the fuel used. The biggest gains are only possible with E85. The automaker fitted wider tires and retuned the suspension for even better on-track handling. In fact, at least in photos, the Sadair's Spear seems to sit noticeably lower to the ground than the Jesko. Finally, they've given the car's carbon ceramic brakes better pads for quicker and later braking. Autoblog Newsletter Autoblog brings you car news; expert reviews and exciting pictures and video. Final thoughts We weren't on the short list for the Sadair's Spear, and since all 30 of them are already sold, we're guessing buyers were impressed enough with the changes to open their wallets. But apart from the very noticeable differences in the rear bumper, it really would take an eagle eye to distinguish the Sadair's Spear from the Jesko. With up to 1,625 horsepower on tap when using E85 fuel and a 35 kg (77 pounds) cut from the Jesko, it's clear the Sadair's Spear will be the better performer in almost any metric. Every single new Koenigsegg is sold out – even Bezos couldn't buy one

Supercars Fancy a Jesko? CC850? Gemera? Sadair's Spear? Koenigsegg can't take your money Skip 1 photos in the image carousel and continue reading It's a position every CEO of a car company would love to be in: sold out, everything, for several years. And it's where Christian von Koenigsegg finds himself because every model he makes, or will make, is already spoken for. Koenigsegg deals exclusively in limited run cars. The Jesko was limited to a total of 125 (the mix of high-downforce Jesko Attacks vs the more streamlined Jesko Absoluts was determined by customer preference), while the retro-styled CC850 is limited to just 70 (originally this was 50, but following overwhelming demand that was upped by 20). Advertisement - Page continues below The 2,300bhp, four-seater Gemera will be positively common in comparison – limited to 300 cars – and the new, more track-focused Sadair's Spear is capped at just 30… all sold before we even saw it earlier this week. 'All our models are presently sold out, we have nothing to sell, which is kind of good, but also annoying because it's fun to interact and supply enthusiasts with their dreams come true,' Christian von Koenigsegg told You might like 'We would love to have more, but we will introduce something new in one, one and a half years, then we'll open up the order books again. The something new we are working on - and we have several projects - are very limited runs, which means they all need to be different, and they all need to have meaning.' Among those new projects is the Jesko replacement. Where the wild genius of Koenigsegg will go next, and how he'll top a 1,600bhp speed machine remains to be seen, but we have every confidence he will. We're also expected faster and more focused spin-offs from the Gemera's hybrid platform. What is for certain though is he's not cooking up a pure-EV hypercar. Advertisement - Page continues below 'The appetite in the market for this level of fully electric car is extremely low. I've experienced electric cars myself for many years and love the responsiveness, the smoothness and how easy it's to live with it. "But after a while you want to feel something, you want to talk to the beast, you want to have a dialogue. You want the throbbing, the pumping, the heat, the sounds, the shifts, all of these aspects that just make a car come alive,' Koenigsegg told us. 'I would say an electric car is a bit more of a robot. Something like the Sadair's Spear is a bit of more of an animal and it brings more performance around a track than any EV because it's lighter. We're fusing in electrical drive here and there, and then maybe one day who knows, there might be something. "But at the moment we're happy as it is.' Thank you for subscribing to our newsletter. Koenigsegg Sadair's Spear Gallery: The Craziest Koenigsegg In Pictures

Sadair's Spear Is More Than Just A Modified Jesko With production of the inimitable Jesko hypercar drawing to a close this year, Koenigsegg has revealed a special series of 30 cars named Sadair's Spear, described as the most track-focused car the Swedish automaker has ever produced. Although based on the Jesko, it has several significant changes inside, out, and even underneath. So let's take a closer look at everything that marks the beginning of a new level of performance for megacars. 2024 Land Rover Defender V8 review: Still wild at heart Watch More 1 From any angle, the Sadair's Spear looks far more aggressive and performance-focused, thanks to numerous aerodynamic alterations. 2 Larger front dive planes/canards enhance both downforce and airflow, as do the vented wheel arches and a new Gurney flap in the vented hood. 3 The active rear wing at first seems similar to that of the Jesko Attack, but numerous slats and slits are among its changes, which, together with the rest of the body, contribute to a 20% higher downforce figure with 5% less drag. 4 New cooling intake scoops behind each occupant work together with an additional radiator to feed the 5.0-liter twin-turbo V8, which now produces 1,282 horsepower on regular unleaded and 1,602 hp on E85. With 1,625 HP, Koenigsegg Sadair's Spear Honors Actual Horse Power

The Koenigsegg Sadair's Spear is a limited-production, track-focused machine that rounds out the Jesko portfolio. Koenigsegg is limiting production of the Sadair's Spear to 30 examples. The V8 in the Koenigsegg Sadair's Spear makes 1,300 hp on pump gas or 1,625 hp on E85. If Koenigsegg's Jesko wasn't rare enough, the company is rolling out an even more exclusive machine that is looking squarely at the racetrack. The Koenigsegg Sadair's Spear borrows its name from Jesko Von Koenigsegg's final racehorse and lives up to the horse's spirit. This track monster cranks up the power from the Jesko's V8, adds a big wing, and gets a new interior. Powering the Sadir's Spear is basically the same V8 powertrain as you'd find in the Jesko. The 5.0-liter turbocharged V8 gets some extra cooling, and a revised air intake helps push power output to new heights. On high-octane pump gas, the Sadair's Spear pushes 1,300 hp through the Koenigsegg nine-speed Light Speed transmission. If you switch to E85, that power creeps up to a jaw-dropping 1,625 hp. That extra cooling is paramount for keeping the Sadair's Spear happy on the track. According to Koenigsegg, there's an extra heat exchanger for the engine oil to better manage extreme temperatures. There's also a bigger opening in the hood and new intake scoops at the rear. The company says overall cooling is up by 30%. The aero package is ready for the track, too. At the front, there are some dive planes to help guide the air, and longer underfloor strakes route air underneath the car. And check out the massive wing. All in, the company estimates there's roughly 20% more downforce over the Jesko. Koenigsegg reworked the brakes and suspension so this equine-inspired track machine can manage the added downforce and be more track-capable than the Jesko. The suspension sports lightweight springs and Koenigsegg's signature Triplex dampers. Braking improvements come from enhanced carbon-ceramic rotors with upgraded pad material. If you were expecting an opulent, Bugatti-esque interior, you're going to be sorely disappointed. The cabin now sports a pair of racing seats and six-point harnesses. Koenigsegg also shaved some weight out of the Sadair's Spear by removing sound insulation. While this cabin isn't as Spartan as a real race car, it's probably not going to be as comfortable as a Jesko. Considering the limited production, it's no surprise the Sadair's Spear sold out almost immediately. If you had over $5 million sitting in a bank account, you might have missed your chance to own one of these special Koenigsegg cars. What do you think is next from Koenigsegg?
