Barcelona 'could be forced to push back Spotify Nou Camp return for a FIFTH time' - as Blaugrana sweat over £1.3bn project's key requirement
Barcelona fans have been hit with news that their Nou Camp return is set to be delayed yet again, with the club reportedly drawing up plans for alternative venues for the start of the upcoming season. Earlier this month, the club were forced to walk back plans to stage the Joan Gamper Trophy, an exhibition match held every August, at the revamped 105,000-seater stadium because of a licensing issue. It was the fourth major delay to the £1.3billion project after the club was unable to meet previous deadlines of November 2024 and February and May of this year. According to Spanish outlet Sport, the Blaugrana are now facing another headache, with the revised return of the September LaLiga clash against Valencia on matchday four looking 'increasingly unlikely' as they continue to wait to receive an occupancy permit from the city council. The council has previously stated that it cannot grant a licence, which they require to host the match, until the stadium works are fully completed. Their report claims that the club could play the fixture at the Estadi Johan Cruyff, where Barca Atletic typically play their fixtures. The club planned to return to the Nou Camp for the start of the LaLiga season is set to be missed Barca have hosted home games at the Lluis Companys Olympic Stadium during the two-year exile from their iconic home but a return to the ground is not possible due to an event in the arena that weekend. The Spanish champions are reportedly still hopeful of making the deadline but they have begun to draw up alternative options in case they are forced to keep their fans waiting even longer for the homecoming. Even once it reopens the Nou Camp will be at a lower capacity, expected to be between 50,000 to 60,000, until renovations are finished, which is likely to be at the start of the 2026-27 campaign. The completion of a new third tier, a roof installation, interior spaces and development of the stadium's surrounding areas still need to be completed. Last season Hansi Flick led the club to their first league title away from the Nou Camp.

Youth Charter Calls for Global Action in New Essay: 'Sport for Development and Peace – A Live Aid of Hope and Opportunity'
The Youth Charter ( a pioneering international charity dedicated to social justice through sport, art, culture and digital engagement, has issued a powerful new call to action through its Founder and Chair, Geoff Thompson. In his latest leadership essay, 'Sport for Development and Peace: A Live Aid of Hope and Opportunity,' Thompson challenges the global community to move beyond symbolic gestures and invest meaningfully in the lives of young people facing disadvantage, disaffection, and despair. Reflecting on the legacy of Live Aid, and drawing from over three decades of experience in sport for development, the essay urges a coordinated global effort to turn sporting success into sustainable impact—through leadership, funding, and authentic community engagement. 'We must go from taking a knee to taking a stand,' Thompson writes. 'There has never been a greater time for the Sport for Development and Peace movement to declare itself as champions of hope and opportunity.' The essay is accompanied by a grassroots-focused ' Word From The Streets ' feature published on the Youth Charter website, where young voices from Manchester, Johannesburg, London and beyond share their testimonies of how sport and art have changed their lives. These stories highlight both the power of local community action and the urgent need for global alignment around the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Key Messages: The Youth Charter is calling for a Global Sport for Development and Peace Fund, transparently managed and impact-led, to deliver meaningful social, cultural and economic change. The movement must be led by authentic leaders and institutions who work on the ground—not just at summits. Young people must be empowered as leaders, not just beneficiaries, in resetting systems of inequality. 'We are facing a humanitarian emergency—not just in Gaza and Sudan—but in the streets of our own cities. This is a defining moment for sport. Will we use it to inspire, or will we remain part of the performance? Now is the time for action, not optics.' Sign up now: Get ST's newsletters delivered to your inbox SEOUL - South Korean Foreign Minister Cho Hyun and his Japanese counterpart Takeshi Iwaya shared concerns over North Korea's growing military ties with Russia among others, and agreed to work together with the United States, Japan's foreign ministry said on Tuesday. Cho held his first meeting in Tokyo with Japanese Foreign Minister Iwaya on Tuesday since taking up his post this month. He is next due to travel to the U.S. to support trade negotiations. "They reaffirmed that they would continue to work closely together between Japan and the ROK, as well as among Japan, the ROK and the U.S." the Japanese foreign ministry said in a statement, referring to South Korea by its official name, the Republic of Korea. North Korea is now fighting alongside Russia in the war against Ukraine. Thousands of North Korean troops were deployed to Russia's Kursk region, while Pyongyang has also supplied Russia with munitions. The Japanese ministry added that the two ministers also expressed concerns over North Korea's "cryptocurrency thefts" that fund its nuclear and missile programs. Cho and Iwaya had agreed to jointly respond to challenges, according to South Korea's foreign ministry. Japan, a U.S. major ally, already struck a trade deal with U.S. President Donald Trump that lowers tariffs on auto imports. But South Korea has yet to reach a deal on U.S. tariffs. Top stories Swipe. "The tariff negotiations are nearing an end. I will provide much support for this as well," Cho told reporters in Seoul ahead of his departure to Japan. "But more importantly, we will discuss how to cooperate between South Korea, the U.S. and Japan as well as strengthen the U.S. alliance in a comprehensive way." REUTERS

Gambhir in confrontation with Surrey ground staff
India head coach Gautam Gambhir has been involved in a confrontation with Surrey ground staff during a training session before Thursday's fifth and final Test against England at The footage from the net session shows Gambhir pointing his finger at Lee Fortis, Surrey's head of ground staff, and the India coach can be heard shouting "you can't tell us what to do". Speaking in a news conference afterwards, India batting coach Sitanshu Kotak - who was present during the incident - said the coaches were inspecting the wicket for the Test, and were asked to move away. "When we were standing on the wicket looking at it, one of the ground staff came and said to stand two and half metres away from here. In my cricketing career I have never seen anybody saying that," said Kotak. "Literally he was saying that 'you can go outside the rope' to the head coach and see the wicket. I don't know how you can see. "If someone was brushing their shoes, or somebody is trying to put something on the wicket or somebody wearing spikes - if the curator feels that then fine - but it was a very strange way of saying it." With no specific outdoor practice area, India used three practice wickets surrounded by nets close to the Test match pitch, which is standard Sport asked Surrey for a comment but the club declined, though in a video Fortis later downplayed the incident, telling Indian media "there's nothing to speak about. There's nothing to hide here".The incident is the latest in a heated and competitive series between the two sides, with the fourth Test at Old Trafford ending with India refusing to shake hands for the draw early as Ravindra Jadeja and Washington Sundar reached centuries. India skipper Shubman Gill also said England were acting "against the spirit of cricket" with time-wasting tactics during the third Test at Lord' lead the five-match series 2-1 and Ben Stokes' side are expected to make changes to the team from Manchester's draw, particularly to the bowling line-up after just three days in between Tests. Jamie Overton, Gus Atkinson and Josh Tongue are the spare quicks in the squad after Stokes struggled with various niggles. Chris Woakes and Brydon Carse have played all four matches so far and Jofra Archer has played back-to-back after making his comeback from a four-year injury India will be without wicketkeeper Rishabh Pant because of a fractured foot and they also have a decision to make on pace bowler Jasprit Bumrah, who has played the maximum three Tests they stated he would before the series. 'Tension ramped up to The Oval finale' - reaction Analysis from BBC Sport chief cricket reporter Stephan ShemiltGautam Gambhir and Lee Fortis are two forthright characters. In any disagreement, neither would be prepared to cede a blade of another example of the high emotion in this series. First the tetchiness at Lord's, then the handshake handbags at Old Trafford, now this. The tension has been ramped up all the way to a live finale at The Oval. This is top-level sport where results matter and those involved care. It's little wonder things have spilled over on Oval pitch will be in the spotlight from now on. Historically a place where spinners can expect lots of involvement, that has not been the case is some speculation England could leave out Liam Dawson. Under Ben Stokes they have been loathe to go into a Test without a frontline spinner - it's only happened once since he took could all depend on Stokes himself. Battered and bruised after Old Trafford, there are questions over what role he can play this Stokes can bowl as part of a four-man seam attack, Dawson should play. If Stokes' bowling is limited, England might feel they need an extra seamer, so Dawson could miss out.
