Report Paredes will leave Roma for Boca Juniors comeback
According to reports in Argentina, Roma midfielder Leandro Paredes will be sold to Boca Juniors after they agreed to activate his release clause. It would be a return to the club for the player who turns 31 this weekend, as it is where he started his career in their youth academy. Advertisement He left in 2014 for Italy with Chievo, then went through Roma, Empoli, Zenit St Petersburg, Paris Saint-Germain, Juventus, and returned to Roma again in 2023. EPA-EFE/ANGELO CARCONI His contract with the Giallorossi runs to June 2026, but there is a release clause in the deal worth €3.5m. TyC Sports and transfer pundit Cesar Luis Merlo are both adamant this evening that Boca Juniors have agreed to pay the release clause and are working on the details. Paredes is also ready to sign a three-and-a-half-year contract with the club from Buenos Aires. The midfielder is not thought to be part of the plans for new Roma coach Gian Piero Gasperini and the side needs to sell before June 30 to avoid falling foul of Financial Fair Play limitations. Meanwhile, Boca Juniors realised they could not negotiate the terms down and decided to go for the full fee.

Barcelona eyeing Kevin Lomónaco signing
The brass at La Liga heavyweights Barcelona have turned their attentions towards South America, amid a search for reinforcements at the back. That's according to Argentine outlet TyC Sports, who highlight Kevin Lomónaco as the player in the sights of the Blaugrana. Advertisement The understanding is that Deco and co. are currently combing the market for centre-back options for next season. As much comes amid ongoing uncertainty surrounding the futures of both Ronald Araújo and Andreas Christensen. In the knowledge that they will likely not have all that much money to work with in the case of moving for a new stopper, cut-price profiles are being sought. And as alluded to above, one player to have seen his name come to the fore during this search is Kevin Lomónaco. Lomónaco, for his part, is a 23-year-old central defender, who was recently afforded a first-ever call-up to the Argentine national team. Advertisement This came owing to a string of impressive performances on the books of Club Atletico Independiente, on loan from Brazilian outfit Red Bull Bragantino. And as per a report from TyC, such form has not gone unnoticed behind the scenes at the Camp Nou: 'Lomónaco is being closely watched by Barca to bolster their defence in anticipation of the possible departures of Ronald Araújo and Andreas Christensen. What Lionel Messi said to James Rodriguez in angry on-pitch confrontation
Lionel Messi was involved in an angry confrontation with James Rodriguez during Argentina's World Cup qualifier against Colombia on Tuesday night, with the game ultimately ending in a draw Lionel Messi angrily clashed with James Rodriguez during Argentina's World Cup qualifier against Colombia on Tuesday night. Messi captained La Albiceleste at the Estadio Mâs Monumental. Lionel Scaloni's side have already booked their place in next summer's tournament and sit top of the South America qualifying group by 10 points. They hosted sixth-place Colombia, in a rematch of last year's Copa America final. Argentina won that game, held at the Hard Rock Stadium in Miami, thanks to Lautaro Martinez's extra-time goal. Rodriguez was captain of Colombia that night, while Argentina skipper Messi was forced off through injury with 24 minutes of normal time to play. Back in March, Rodriguez claimed that Colombia did not win due to 'external factors'. The former Real Madrid star hit out at the refereeing team for their performance during the final. 'Yes, we had an excellent Copa," he said. "Personally, it was spectacular. We wanted the title and came close, but due to external factors, we couldn't be champions of the Americas. The referee didn't award two penalties, and for me, one of them was clear. "VAR audio recordings were shown in every match, but not in the final; something strange happened there. We were on the side of the draw that included Brazil, Uruguay, and the strong opponents, and they were on the side where their opponents were weaker. "They've won everything. I'm not saying they're a team that doesn't deserve to win because if they were champions, it's because they deserved it, but it's true that these external factors influenced us and held us back.' Four months later and it appears those comments did not go down well with Messi and the Argentina squad. During Tuesday's game, Rodriguez became involved in a confrontation with a number of Argentina players, with Messi heading over to push him away. As he did so, the duo could be seen talking to each in an animated fashion. They continued their discussion with their hands covering their mouths, with Rodriguez caught by surprise by a comment from Messi. According to TyC Sports, Messi approached Rodriguez to say: "You said they helped us in the final. You talk a lot." Rodriguez responded by insisting: "I didn't say anything." After the game, Rodriguez refused to discuss the interaction, saying: "What stays on the field, stays on the field." Messi was substituted with 12 minutes to go as his side fought back from a goal down to secure a draw, with boss Scaloni admitting he had not been planning to take off the superstar. "In principle, he wasn't going to come off, but when he saw that we were making two substitutions, he told me that it was better for him to come off, and I took him off, otherwise he wouldn't have come off," Scaloni said. "You know how it works and what I think. I think the best thing about the team is their constant desire to try, which is always valuable."

Chelsea star Enzo Fernandez sees red for horror challenge and Lionel Messi clashes with James Rodriquez - as Argentina and Colombia stars trade insults in World Cup qualifier
Chelsea star Enzo Fernandez was shown a straight red card as tempers boiled over during a 1-1 draw between Argentina and Colombia in a World Cup qualifier on Tuesday night. World champions Argentina trailed to a stunning Luis Diaz strike in the first half of the match at the Estadio Monumental. As Lionel Scaloni's side attempted to get back into the match in the second half, Fernandez was shown his marching orders following a horror challenge on Kevin Castano. The midfielder raised his foot when competing for a high ball, but only succeeded in planting his boot into Castano's face, after the Colombian had headed the ball away. As Castano dropped to the pitch following the challenge, players from both sides raced to the incident. Fernandez was ultimately dismissed for the challenge by referee Juan Gabriel Benitez, with the incident leading to tensions rising even further. Argentina captain Lionel Messi was caught in a heated exchange with Colombian star James Rodriquez in the aftermath of the incident. TyC Sports, an Argentinian outlet, reported that Messi had confronted Rodriquez over comments he made about the 2024 Copa America final. Rodriquez last month claimed Colombia had lost the final to Argentine due to 'external factors', adding that the referee had not given them 'one or two penalties' in the showpiece. 'You said they helped us in the final, you talk a lot,' Messi reportedly told Rodriquez on the pitch, leading to the Colombian replying 'I didn't say anything.' Rodriquez declined to comment further on the incident post-match, stating 'What stays on the field, stays on the field.' Messi was ultimately brought off in the closing stages of the match, with his replacement Exequiel Palacios setting up a 81st minute equaliser by Thiago Almada. Tensions continued after the match finished in a 1-1 draw, with veteran Argentina centre back Nicolas Otamendi involved in a spat with Richard Rios. Otamendi reportedly approached the Colombian midfielder and said 'Take off your headband, you clown', according to TyC Sports. 'ESTO ES CULPA TUYA, VOS GENERASTE TODO ESTO'. Lionel Messi contra el árbitro Juan Benítez. 🇦🇷🤬 — Ataque Futbolero (@AtaqueFutbolero) June 11, 2025 Rios was reported to have responded 'You're old. Shut the f*** up, idiot. You're old, you can't even run' to the 37-year-old. Otamendi had also been involved in a confrontation with midfielder Jefferson Lerma during the match. Both Messi and Otamendi blamed referee Benitez for the heated nature of the match. Footage showed Messi approaching the official after the final whistle and declaring 'This is your fault You're the one who caused all this, you're the one who caused all this, with the decisions you made.' 'You're the one who sparked everything that happened.' Otamendi echoed Messi's comments to Argentinian television, claiming the referee had 'called everything for them'. 'Something similar happened to us with Brazil, they spoke before the match, and where we feel most comfortable is on the pitch, where we show the team we are and the hierarchy we have,' Otamendi said. 'It created a tough game that affected us because in every divided, every dispute, the referee called everything for them. Luis Diaz had opened the scoring for Colombian with a solo effort in the first half of the match 'What we have to do is play football, show on the field the team we are and keep adding. 'There are many young people who are taking advantage of the opportunities and that is the Argentine national team.' Argentina have already sealed their place at next year's World Cup with the holders 10 points clear at the top of South American qualifying.

Boca Juniors attempt to bring back Paredes
Leandro Paredes returns to the centre of market rumours. Boca Juniors, his former club and favourite team, is ready for a new attempt to bring him back to Argentina. The motivation is linked to the Club World Cup, which will start on June 15 and will offer a showcase of the highest level to the participating teams. Precisely for this competition, an extraordinary market window has been granted, active since June 1, which will allow the clubs involved to reinforce their roses. According to TyC Sports, among the most active clubs at this stage there will be Boca Juniors, determined to take the opportunity to try to bring Paredes home. Already searched insistently in the winter market, the Roma midfielder had not then accepted the transfer, preferring to continue his adventure in the Giallorossi. Today, however, the scenario has changed slightly. Paredes recently extended his contract with Roma for another season, but – again according to the Argentine newspaper – within the agreement there would be a termination clause of 3.5 million euros, valid only for Boca Juniors. An affordable figure, which could concretely rekindle the negotiation, especially if the player, as he repeatedly stated, really wants to return to the Bombonera one day.
