US News ranked these 8 Oklahoma cities the best in the state: Here's who made the cut
Oklahoma City was named one of the best places to live in Oklahoma and the country for 2025, according to a new report. U.S. News & World Report recently released its rankings of the 250 best places to live in the U.S. in 2025-2026, taking into account each city's affordability, job market and quality of life. Six cities from the Sooner State made it into the top 250, with Oklahoma City ranking 96th overall. U.S. News also ranked the 8 best places to live in Oklahoma in 2025-2026. Here's a look at the list and what makes Oklahoma City stand out: Broken Arrow (#12 U.S.) Edmond (#22 U.S.) Moore (#42 U.S.) Enid (#55 U.S.) Oklahoma City (#96 U.S.) Norman (#173 U.S.) Tulsa Lawton U.S. News lists several factors that make OKC such a desirable place to live. For one, average housing costs in Oklahoma City are nearly $140,000 less than the national average, offering a better value than similarly sized cities. 'Other necessary expenses, such as groceries and utilities, as well as nonessential expenditures like dining out and entertainment, are also cheaper here than they are in many other U.S. cities,' the report reads. The city's population also skews younger, with 28% under the age of 20, 7% between 20-24, 16% between 25-34, 14% between 35-44 and 22% between 45-64, with 13% 65 and over. There is a healthier job market in Oklahoma City than in similarly sized metro areas, as well. According to the report, the city has an abundance of opportunities 'for those seeking careers in energy, aviation and health care, as well as for skilled industrial workers, such as machinists, pipe fitters and welders.' Oklahoma City's unemployment rate is slightly better than the national average at 3.4%. However, the median household income is $67,188 — nearly $12,300 less than the national median household income of $79,466. 5 Reasons Many Retirees Could Soon Regret Leaving Florida
Florida's reputation as the Grand Poobah of retirement destinations has taken some hits lately. Consider the latest rankings from Seniorly, a senior living website. The Sunshine State ranked No. 18 in the U.S., well behind Washington, D.C. in the No. 1 spot. Montana, Wyoming, Alaska and Pennsylvania rounded out the top five in Seniorly's rankings, which were based on affordability, quality of life and healthcare options. Read Next: Find Out: There are multiple reasons some retirees are less drawn to Florida these days. Once a strong point, the state's cost of living is on the rise as an increasing number of remote workers settle there. Climate change and the dangers of natural disasters are a factor, as are related spikes in insurance costs. Concerns around healthcare are also increasing, as reflected in Seniorly's study. That said, many of the characteristics that forged Florida's retirement-friendly reputation remain in place. Here are four reasons retirees skipping or fleeing the Sunshine State may want to reconsider. While Florida as a whole is descending in some retirement ratings, some of its cities are soaring. Naples, a city with about 20,000 residents on Florida's southwest coast, climbed from No. 28 place to No. 1 in the most recent U.S. News and World Report rankings. The publication evaluated 150 U.S. cities based on happiness, retiree tax burdens, affordability and other factors. Part of a metro area with about 400,000 residents, Naples bills itself as the 'Golf Capital of the World' and boasts some of the nation's most highly rated beaches. Naples wasn't the only Florida city rated highly by U.S. News and World Reports. Sarasota, another Gulf Coast City with about 58,000 residents, ranked fourth. Florida's most populous city, Jacksonville, ranked seventh in the nation for retirees. Located in northeast Florida, 'Jax' has about a million residents and a lower cost of living than many other parts of the state. And the humidity in parts of the state can be tough to handle, particularly for the uninitiated. If your retirement dreams include consistent warmth and sunshine, though, Florida remains tough to beat. Florida's wide array of natural beauty includes some the nation's top-ranked beaches. There are also just a lot of beaches there, in general. Florida boasts nearly 8,500 miles of coastline, tops in the continental United States. The Sunshine State landed three beaches in Dr. Beach's most recent top 10 list for the nation: Caladesi Island State Park in Dunedin and Clearwater, Delnor-Wiggins Pass State Park in Naples, and Ft. De Soto Park in St. Petersburg. Another Florida beach — St. George Island State Park — topped the list the previous year. Florida's cost of living is on the rise, but don't forget to weigh other financial aspects. You may find that other states are not as affordable as they seemed. For example, Florida has no state income tax. Other states, like New York, California and Oregon, have high state income taxes that can eat into retirement savings. You should also weigh the costs of housing, food and transportation before you skip Florida in favor of other destinations. The Sunshine State isn't the only place where things feel more expensive in recent years. In some ways, Florida is built for retirees — despite the challenges to infrastructure posed by recent growth. In addition to its plethora of retirement communities, the Sunshine State still has a high concentration of top-rated hospitals and medical facilities. Other states may not have the same level of access to quality healthcare, which can be a major concern for the 65-plus set. That said, healthcare access and quality depend on what part of the state you live in. As always, it pays to do your homework while scoping out your dream retirement or deciding whether to remain in your current retirement spot. For many, Florida may not be the retirement slam dunk it once was. But there's still a lot for retirees to like about the Sunshine State, and it may be worth keeping on your shortlist. Colorado Senate Minority Leader Paul Lundeen resigns to take national position
DNEVER (KDVR) — Colorado Senate Minority Leader Paul Lundeen has resigned from the Colorado Senate, the senator's office announced Monday morning. His resignation was effective Monday, June 9, as he heads to the American Excellence Foundation, a national investment nonprofit focused on supporting conservative causes where he will be the next president and CEO. The organization's board unanimously approved of Lundeen in the position. 11 Colorado companies named among top workplaces in nation: US News The Republican leader has been in Colorado's Senate for seven sessions and served as minority leader since 2022. He also served in the Colorado House of Representatives four sessions and four years on the Colorado State Board of Education. 'Serving Colorado has been an honor and blessing,' Lundeen said in a press release. 'I am grateful to the people of Senate District 9 for the opportunity to fight for policies that empower individuals, protect our communities, and promote prosperity. As I transition to a national platform, I am eager to continue advocating for personal freedom, economic opportunity, and common-sense conservative values.' According to a press release, Lundeen's achievements in Colorado's General Assembly include co-leading an effort to rewrite Colorado's public education funding formula, playing a key role in successfully cutting the state income tax rate, and sponsoring bills that have since become law to combat human trafficking. Colorado Senate Republicans in a statement congratulated Lundeen for his next steps. 'We are grateful for his many years of dedicated public service and thank him for his leadership over the years fighting for students, economic freedom, and safety for all Coloradans,' the statement read. 'We wish him well and are excited to see him succeed in his next endeavor.' The Senate Republican Caucus will hold a meeting on Thursday to elect its new minority leader.
