SDAIA Awarded WSIS Certificate of Excellence for Organizing AI Olympiad
The World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS) Forum 2025 has awarded SDAIA a Certificate of Excellence for organizing the first global edition of the International AI Olympiad (IAIO). During the 2025 award ceremony, the WSIS recognized the IAIO as an unparalleled project in Category 7 (E-Science), according to the Saudi Press Agency. The ceremony also represented an integral part of the AI for Good Summit in Geneva held from July 8 to 11. This recognition reflects the ongoing efforts of the Saudi Data and Artificial Intelligence Authority (SDAIA) to boost innovation and elevate national and international capacities of the artificial intelligence. Through advanced initiatives and programs, SDAIA also seeks to empower national talents and build the technological and programming skills of the future leaders. Crucially, the awarded projects constitute only 9% of the total number of projects submitted to the annual WSIS Prizes. Organized by the UN International Telecommunication Union (ITU), WSIS Prizes witnessed the participation of over 194 countries, mirroring the significance of global competition. In collaboration with the International Center for AI Research and Ethics (ICAIRE), AI Olympiad featured participants from more than 25 countries around the world. By hosting such a prestigious exhibition, SDAIA offers an international platform for AI competitions and an umbrella that brings together brilliant minds and spreads the concept of the Smart Olympiad among current generations. The announcement was made during a ceremony held in Geneva, Switzerland, on July 7. The award is part of a global initiative supported by the United Nations. Developed by the Department of Government Enablement – Abu Dhabi (DGE), TAMM is a flagship project under the Abu Dhabi Digital Strategy 2025-2027. The platform was created in collaboration with over 40 Abu Dhabi Government entities. Officials reported that TAMM has transformed how people access government services. It offers fast, simple, and AI-powered support for over 3.3 million users. TAMM's AI Assistant, launched in October 2024, was also recognized. It has facilitated more than 700,000 conversations and resolved 1.4 million cases. The assistant connects users to over 1,100 services in more than 90 languages using conversational AI. This achievement further highlights Abu Dhabi's position as a global leader in digital excellence and smart governance. His Excellency Ahmed Tamim Hisham Al Kuttab, Chairman of DGE, stated the award reflects a shared commitment to building a fast, smart, and intuitive government. He added that TAMM showcases how innovation and technology can be used with purpose and empathy. His Excellency Major General Ahmed Saif bin Zeitoun Al Muhairi, Commander-in-Chief of Abu Dhabi Police, revealed that TAMM has automated numerous policing processes. These improvements have saved thousands of working hours and enhanced service delivery. He emphasized that the platform supports Abu Dhabi Police's vision for proactive and secure community services. His Excellency Mohamed Ali Al Shorafa, Chairman of the Department of Municipalities and Transport, said TAMM has made once time-consuming services quick and accessible. He highlighted that registering property sales or renewing licenses now takes only minutes. His Excellency Mansoor Al Mansoori, Chairman of the Department of Health, Abu Dhabi, stated that TAMM is helping build one of the world's smartest health systems. The platform supports personalised healthcare by improving access and outcomes through AI. His Excellency Dr. Mugheer Khamis Al Khaili, Chairman of the Department of Community Development – Abu Dhabi, noted that TAMM improves quality of life by enabling easy and proactive access to government services. • TAMM uses AI to resolve 95% of service requests. • It allows human agents to focus on complex cases. The WSIS Prizes are led by the International Telecommunication Union. These awards recognize ICT projects that support the UN Sustainable Development Goals. The 2025 edition included 18 categories with winners chosen through a global voting process. Since its inception in 2013, WSIS Prizes have honored transformative digital projects worldwide. TAMM Abu Dhabi's recognition adds to the emirate's growing international reputation for innovation in government services.

The shortlisting celebrates Abu Dhabi's growing international standing as a pioneer in AI-driven governance and digital by the Department of Government Enablement – Abu Dhabi (DGE), TAMM AI Assistant is a flagship initiative as part of the Abu Dhabi Digital Strategy 2025-2027. 12 projects under MCMC nominated as WSIS Prizes 2025's finalists
12 projects under the Malaysian Communication and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) have been listed as finalists for the 2025 World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS) Prizes. MCMC in a statement said, the WSIS Prizes organised by International Telecommunication Union (ITU) and co-organised by United Nation agencies is a global platform which showcases digital initiatives that contribute to sustainable development. 'Malaysia has marked another significant milestone in its digital development journey. 'The country's recognition by ITU reflects the country's ongoing commitment to advancing digital inclusion and promoting sustainable innovation, in alignment with global aspirations under the WSIS framework,' it said in a statement uploaded on Facebook. MCMC added that the nominated initiatives were chosen amongst hundreds of submissions for finalist selection as well, an achievement the country should rejoice. In conjunction, the commission stated that shortlisted initiatives abide by several WSIS Action Lines (AL) and parallel to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Among them are 'Rural Connectivity Redefined: How Smart600 is Shaping Sarawak's Future', 'MetaHRise: Transforming Onboarding and Talent Development through the Metaverse' and 'Stingray II: Catalysing Digital Transformation in Pulau Ketam (Ketam Island)'. Other projects include 'National Information Dissemination Centre', 'MCMC Cashless Society Programme', 'AgriNXT: Oil Palmer Chapter (OPC)', 'Sihat Xpress Smart Telehealth Kiosk' and 'Connecting Kerling: Strategic Steps Toward Universal Internet Access'. This year, MCMC also announced that Malaysia is the Platinum Strategic Partner at WSIS+20 where it serves as a key contributor to global digital dialogue and positioning Southeast Asia as an emerging digital hub. Following 2 consecutive wins in recent years, MCMC said the nominated projects further strengthen Malaysia's reputation as a regional leader in ICT application for inclusive development. 'With strong support across government ministries and agencies, these projects embody a collective push towards a more digitally connected and empowered society,' said MCMC. Public voting for the WSIS Prizes 2025 is now open, and citizens are encouraged to participate and support local efforts on the world stage by voting for the project that inspires them the most.
