Xiaomi launches a bigger, faster Android tablet with its own custom chip

Just a month after unveiling the Xring O1 chipset in the Xiaomi 15S Pro, the company is already expanding its reach — this time to the tablet market. The newly announced Xiaomi Pad 7S Pro 12.5 is the first tablet powered by Xiaomi's in-house silicon, and it brings more than just a new chip to the table. The Pad 7S Pro features a 12.5-inch LCD panel with a 3:2 aspect ratio and a 144Hz refresh rate. Xiaomi says this size strikes the 'ideal balance' between portability and productivity when compared to smaller 11-inch and larger 14-inch tablets. Despite the upsized display, the tablet is thinner than its predecessor, the Pad 7 Pro — measuring just 5.8 mm thick versus the 6.2 mm thickness of the earlier model. It does gain a bit of weight at 576 g (up from 500 g), but that's offset by the larger battery and additional hardware. Xiaomi is also stepping up multimedia. The Pad 7S Pro now features six speakers (up from four) with Dolby Atmos support, designed to pair with the larger screen for a better video and gaming experience. Combined with the 144Hz refresh rate, this could make it a strong contender for media-heavy users. Battery life and charging also get a notable upgrade. The 7S Pro packs a 10,610 mAh battery, up from 8,850 mAh in the Pad 7 Pro. It supports Xiaomi's blazing-fast 120W wired charging — nearly doubling the 67W top-up speeds found on the previous generation. The Pad 7S Pro supports a new magnetic keyboard case with a fully adjustable hinge, designed to give users a full typing experience. It ships with a new version of WPS Office pre-installed and supports productivity apps like ZWCAD (for DWG files) and CAJViewer (for document conversion and markup). The tablet also offers advanced cross-device features: it can mirror its screen wirelessly to a PC with just 41ms latency, supports keyboard and mouse sharing, and enables drag-and-drop file transfers between Android and both Windows or macOS systems. The Xiaomi Pad 7S Pro 12.5 is already available in China, starting at CNY 3,300 (around $460) for the base 8 GB/256 GB model. Other configurations scale up to 16GB of RAM and 1TB of storage. A magnetic keyboard add-on is priced at CNY 1,000 ($140), and Xiaomi is also offering a matte 'Soft Light' screen protector for CNY 200 ($30). There's no word yet on global availability, but if the Pad 7S Pro makes its way outside China, it could pose real competition to Samsung's Galaxy Tab S9 and Apple's iPad Pro. Xiaomi Pad 7S Pro is official, it has a bigger 12.5" display and Xring O1 chipset

The Xiaomi Pad 7S Pro 12.5 is the first tablet to use the company's own Xring O1 chipset and it arrives a month after that chip made its debut with the Xiaomi 15S Pro. That is not the only change from the Pad 7 Pro, however. For starters, the 7S tablet has a larger 12.5' display – Xiaomi says it offers a balance between portability and screen size compared to 11' and 14' slates. The display still has a 3:2 aspect ratio and a 144Hz refresh rate. The larger tablet is slimmer at 5.8mm (vs. 6.2mm for the Pad 7 Pro). It does weigh more at 576g (up from 500g), but that can be accounted for by the larger display and larger battery. The Pad 7S Pro is powered by a 10,610mAh battery, which supports faster 120W charging. The previous Pro has an 8,850mAh battery with 67W charging. Xiaomi advertises this as a computer companion and even a full laptop replacement with the optional keyboard add-on. It attaches to the tablet magnetically and has a fully adjustable hinge. It runs a new version of WPS Office and supports ZWCAD (compatible with DWG) and CAJViewer (a multi-format file converter). The tablet can do wireless screen mirroring to a PC with a latency of just 41ms. It can also share a keyboard and mouse with a PC and offers easy file transfers. Both Windows and Mac systems are supported, by the way. One change worth mentioning is that the S-model has more speakers – up to 6 now and with Dolby Atmos support. This paired with the larger display promises a more immersive experience for video and gaming. The Xiaomi Pad 7S Pro goes on sale today, starting at CNY 3,300 for the base 8GB/256GB model. There are different configurations going up to 16GB/1TB, check the table below – note that while we've included a conversion to USD, Xiaomi hasn't announced a global rollout yet. Also, the keyboard add-on we mentioned goes for CNY 1,000 and there is a screen protector for CNY 200 (it's the Soft Light kind, which reduces reflections). SHANGHAI: Xiaomi's CEO Lei Jun said on Monday that the firm plans to hold an official launch event for its new YU7 electric sports utility vehicle on Thursday, where it is expected to announce pricing and start taking orders. Xiaomi Pad 7S Pro is coming with Xring O1 chipset, Geekbench reveals

Xiaomi's self-developed chipset, the Xring O1, made its debut inside the Xiaomi 15S Pro smartphone, which launched last month along with the Xiaomi Pad 7 Ultra tablet. Now it looks like Xiaomi is developing another tablet, the Pad 7S Pro. This one will use the Xring O1 just like the Pad 7 Ultra, but given the branding should be smaller. The Xiaomi Pad 7 Pro, for reference, has an 11.2-inch screen vs. the Ultra's 14" display. The Pad 7S Pro has now been spotted in the Geekbench database, with the Xring O1 on board, 16GB of RAM, and Android 15. No other specs have been outed so far, but seeing how the Xiaomi 15S Pro is basically just a Xiaomi 15 Pro using the Xring O1, the Pad 7S Pro may be a Pad 7 Pro with the new chipset. If that's the case, then expect the tablet to feature an 11.2-inch 2136x3200 LCD screen with 144 Hz refresh rate and 800-nit peak brightness, a 50 MP rear camera with a 2 MP depth sensor next to it, a 32 MP front camera, and an 8,850 mAh battery. Apple's China rival Xiaomi still has major upside, analysts say, even after record earnings

Chinese smartphone company Xiaomi in the last week reported record net profit for a second-straight quarter, bolstering several analysts' conviction on the Hong Kong-listed stock. In absolute dollar terms, Xiaomi's earnings are still a fraction of Apple's . But the Chinese company has a larger smartphone market share in China , and has built an electric vehicle business, while the iPhone maker dropped its car plans . Apple in recent months has also come under pressure from the Trump administration over its overseas supply chain. Apple shares are down 20% year-to-date to around $200. Xiaomi's have gained more than 45% to 50.95 Hong Kong dollars ($6.50) a share. Following Xiaomi's earnings report on May 27, Jefferies analysts raised their price target to 73 HKD, up from 69.50 HKD previously — for upside of 43% from Friday's close. The analysts attributed the company's earnings beat to outperformance in "AIoT." The category refers to Xiaomi's appliances, which incorporate artificial intelligence functions and can be controlled remotely over the internet using an app. Xiaomi's adjusted net income for the first quarter was 10.68 billion yuan ($1.48 billion), beating the expected 9.48 billion yuan, according to a FactSet analyst poll. Revenue of 111.29 billion yuan also came in above the 108.49 billion yuan predicted by the poll. In smartphones, Xiaomi has become more conservative about the global outlook, but the Jefferies analysts pointed out the company will likely continue to gain market share in the high-end China market with its new Xring O1 chip. Xiaomi officially revealed the chip on May 22 and said it would power its new 15S Pro smartphone, which sells for far less than Apple's iPhone 16 Pro in China. CEO Lei Jun claimed at the event that Xiaomi's Xring O1 Apple's A18 Pro on several metrics, including the ability to operate a game with less heat. Smartphones account for just under 40% of Xiaomi's revenue. Appliances and other products make up nearly 22%. "We believe appliances represent major upside in the next two years, but [Xiaomi's electric SUV] YU7 sales will be [the] key [short-term] catalyst," the Jefferies analysts said. Xiaomi revealed its YU7 SUV at the same May 22 event. While the company didn't announce a price, it said an official launch would be held in July and that the new car would come with a longer driving range than rival Tesla's Model Y. "We believe the launch of YU7, scheduled for July 2025, will likely be the most important catalyst for Xiaomi this year," Morgan Stanley analysts said in a May 27 report. They expect the SUV can garner a higher price point than Xiaomi's SU7 electric sedan that hit the market last year. "If sales volume is strong, it could help Xiaomi achieve higher ASPs, better margins, and ongoing earnings growth," the Morgan Stanley analysts said. They rate Xiaomi overweight and have a price target of 62 HKD. In addition to the YU7 release this summer, several analysts said they are looking forward to Xiaomi's investor day, scheduled for June 3. Those are both potential positive catalysts, Macquarie said. "We believe Xiaomi is a beneficiary of rising EV demand, changing consumer behavior, and industry consolidation in China." "The company is widening its core business product offerings, expanding overseas and controlling [operating expenses] to drive profitability," the report said. Macquarie rates the stock outperform, with a price target of 69.32 HKD. JPMorgan analysts kept their neutral rating, however, as they said Xiaomi's ecosystem-related revenue growth was the slowest among major categories — not supportive of a high valuation in their view. They cautioned that while Apple was able to gain value once services started driving growth instead of hardware, Xiaomi has seen accelerating hardware growth while services has grown more slowly. Their price target is 60 HKD, still about 18% above where the stock closed Friday. — CNBC's Michael Bloom contributed to this report.
